ahh this is so exciting! this is the spotlighters first time going to this competition AND our first competition of the season! i'm super nervous; i have no idea how well we're going to do!
wow... this is actually going to be quite a difficult competition. I think there are a LOT of groups that can easily make finals. I guess based on last year's results this is who I am going to say will make finals (in no order):
LaCrosse Central
Eau Claire
Cedar Rapids Jefferson
Fort Atkinson
Brodhead
Cedar Rapids Prairie
of course this is probably not what will happen. I think the first four groups I listed are pretty solid to make finals. Honestly there are maybe 5 other groups that could easily take the other two slots. I chose Brodhead because they are the only other group besides the last four that have made finals at Monona Grove in recent years (I'm not sure about before 05). Cedar Rapids Prairie, while very inconsistent, has made finals more than any of the other groups, and overall have been better than some of the other groups. They typically have had more success earlier in the season (i.e. 2006 where they placed 4th above many groups including Bemidji, Sioux City East, and Cedar Rapids Jefferson). However my next two picks for finals would be Milton and Janesville Craig. Milton just hasn't yet broken into finals here. Janesville Craig ended the season strong last year, so we will see how they will grow this year! Also, Janesville Craig hasn't had a history of competing strongly at the beginning of the season, so we won't know how prepared they will be for this competition. But of course, we won't know how prepared any of these groups will be. I don't think any group can be counted out of finals, but I think those 6 have a really good chance.
