I'm just hoping all of the usual Opelika crowd shows up... that's all the Alabama show choirs... Enterprise, Homewood, Albertville, Spain Park... and then there's West Jones who usually comes. It's nice to see that Pascagoula is coming this year. I'm guessing that South Jones is going to Petal? and the fact that Petal is hosting a competition that day rules them out.
Perhaps Cleveland, TN... the Georgia show choirs usually come. I also heard that one of the Virginia or West Virginia choirs might be making the trip down. That would be nice as well.
Something tells me that the OPAC (Opelika Performing Arts Center) is going to be standing room only again... as always.
I'm in the process of convincing our director to go. I think it would be a great experience. I wonder if any of the normal Petal crowd will go to Opelika instead this year?
Btw Matt, how did you come across this info... and how certain are you that Mt. Zion will be there. If only Petal wasn't hosting its competition the same day... Southern Showcase could have been huge!
I found out a few weeks ago. And then they put it on their website recently. So they're 100% going.

Nice... This will be Mt. Zion's first trip to Opelika. Enterprise almost always comes... as does Spain Park, so it looks like the usual suspects will be there (Homewood, A*Vegas, etc). It will be nice if some of the other Mississippi groups come. South Jones or Petal.... maybe the fact that Mt. Zion will be there will sway their decisions.
By the way... Opelika is in East Central Alabama. It is along I-85 close to the Alabama/Georgia border. It's about 1 hour from Montgomery, 90 minutes from Atlanta, and 2 hours from Birmingham.
Call me dumb if you will, but where is Opelika, if you do not mind me asking? Also, the show should be great with a choir such as Mt. Zion already planning on performing...I am sure though that every choir attending will be absolutely amazing.
