Aztec Singers-
I thought you guys were gonna keep getting better and better but this year was a step down. If you're gonna do costumes don't choose the worst looking stuff. It didn't match and some of the guys just wore bball jerseys under their costumes. Tacky but I had some friends in your choir so I forgive you. No one in your group looks enthusiastic about being on stage and that sucks. The guys hand movements blew and it felt like the girls were the only ones holding your group together up there. Your ballad needs a lot of work to and I only say this because I like the vocal aspect of show choir more than the show part. Whatever... I may sound mean but I'm out now so I don't care... Take it as constructive criticism.. or not...
Chanteurs -
Better than last year and I was in it, so that say something... Oh well... I'm happy you got 2nd. Your vocals were sweet as always and probably always will be. Your new choreographer really adds a new feeling to chanteurs but I truly was hopping for a little more from her... Oh well... it's her first one... maybe she'll feel more confident next year. I saw almost no mistakes in choreography but you lost your power in the closer... work out and get some stamina... hahaha... THE SONG YOU ADD NEXT WILL AMAZE EVERYONE... e.CH!
In Sync -
Everyone says you got robed... I don't think so... compared to last year you guys are not as good... I think it because, to me, your costumes are boring and your songs just didn’t WOW me like the last two years' did. Maybe you’re trying something new this year... If you are good luck, and if not, I hope you guys get more into your set on stage because, again, compared to the last two years, your facials are very boring. Your ballad was good... The end....(cont'd.)

This made me laugh...in a sadistic sarcastic kind of way...

Royal Stewart Singers -
Can't remember what you guys even did... so sue me!
Main Attraction -
I think this was the group that had that girl in the front who kept giving the crowd freakin' weird eye movement and squints. I was like freakin' out so much that it totally drew attention away from not only your show but your vocals tooo.... CRAZY... but anyway, you guys did fine... I can't hate on you anymore than that.
Marquis -
Ok you have too many people in your choir... You are cheap... First of all you shouldn't have gotten show... WHY... I'll tell you... you were sloppy and that's because you have too many people... secondly, compared to every year I’ve seen you, your costumes sucked, in my opinion. Third your moves were fricken easy and your people hardly moved anywhere on stage... but whatever you're cheap... you have like 80 people... good ballad... good facial... I guess.
Center Stage -
Counter Strike... and that's that.
Chamber Choir -
Back in the day you were the choir to beat... but then again so were wee... member 2001-2002... I had a homie in your choir so I can't say anything too bad... you guys need more people and you need new choreography and you need to change colors once in a while... hahaha... good job keep working hard.
Sound Express -
You one-downed it this year. Did the crazy hair you always have go or did I miss something... I just wasn't impressed at all and I was waiting to see what Burbank 2 had in store for us all... sue me.
Powerhouse -
You were good and you went last... Congrats.
I love you all but I graduated. Muahahaha!
Bring it on INTERNET NERDS!
P.S. I have bad spelling and grammer but i'm too lazy to change it.
Actually I think his name is Charlie
I was looking forward to his traditional spin round and round a bunch of times then land in the splits. But alas it never happened.
Maybe next time.

Never fear!! I'm sure he'll do something like that during their set... at least i hope " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Thanks to Diamond Bar for bringing the whole show! You were LOUD by sheer numbers and the energy never dropped. That's what show choir is all about, the show! I disagree with AuntieEm above, I thought Millie nailed it completely, fast paced, clean lyrics and sailing notes on key. Costume changes, YES! The costumes support the music! Overall the best entertaining show, certainly deserving better than 4th!
Last night was so much fun! I loved seeing everybody again and meeting a few new friends! Diamond Bar is going to be amazing next week!! (can't wait hehe) Neway here's what i thought about everyone's shows:
Mark Keppel- I know everyone keeps saying it, but you guys really do look like you're having fun on stage! The song choices were also really cute. (Awesome job Thanh!!!)
Arcadia- I really liked "Don't let the Sun Go Down on Me", i've always loved that song and you guys just added another element to it for me. I look forward to seeing your set grow as the season progresses. (Nice meeting you Jessica)
Burbank- You guys were my favorite last year, so I was really excited to see this years show. Let me tell you, I was not dissappointed at all. I absolutely love your costumes! (very pretty and flattering on everyone) The last two songs you did literally gave me chills. I just couldn't believe how awesome you were, this was easiliy my favorite performance of the night. I can't wait to see the rest of your show! (loved meeting Jonathan, Kelly, & Susan!)
Glendora- Big improvement since last year! I loved how you set up the mike's with the guy doing the splits!!! Sun and Moon is such a great song, you guys did it really well!
Chula- Very nice job! I can't wait to see what your set grows into this year.
Diamond Bar- As always you commanded the audiences attention for the full show. I really enjoyed the fact that you did your full show with costume changes and everything. Simply an excellent performance!
Eastlake- I really liked "Shining Star"! I like this years show better than last years, it's much more interesting.
Brea- Nice use of a Clay song! (he's so fabulous!!!!!) You definately did well, especially since you are such a small choir. I would really like to se you guys in different costumes, or at least have a nice costume change somewhere in the show.
Carlsbad- Very different then last year- in a good way. Your opener scared me to death time after time last year lol. I enjoyed "For Once in My Life".
Burroughs- Congrats!!!! You guys have so much energy it's amazing!! I loved "Ragtime", very very entertaining. I was a little dissappointed that what I saw last night wasn't as innovative as last year, but i'm sure i'll change my mind when I see the rest of your show! Very well done I look forward to seeing you at DB! (Stella you were gorgeous & awesome!, nice meeting you Richard ;) )
Beautifully sung, and smartly choreographed, Burbank should have stopped there, as the rest of their performance proved to be a let down.
Not only are the lyrics - Lying beside you, Here in the Dark, Feeling your heartbeat with mine - inappropriate for high school performers, In Sync’s singing was stylistically inappropriate for a rock and roll ballad. The soaring wall-of-sound one expects and appreciates in the R&R power ballad was too heavy, too dark and too over-enunciated Friday night. Add the really terrific soloist, and the contrast with the weighted choral sound was particularly jarring. Additionally, I’m assuming a costume change is forthcoming, because while absolutely smashing for their opener, no self-respecting lady headbanger would be caught dead onstage with the teased hair, the velvet gown or the dangling rhinestones.
Burbank concluded their performance with “In the Air Tonight.†Although choreographed with some terrific moves, certain songs – particularly those so singularly associated with as unique a stylist as Phil Collins – just shouldn’t be arranged for choir.

i am glad people are voicing their opinion.
but open arms is not a "head-banging" song.
and there is no song that cant or shouldnt be arranged for show choir, i mean... if carlsbad can perform and put together "lets get it started" as well as they did, that song was so awesome!
well.. see you at diamondbar
GOODJOB EVERYONE LAST NIGTH!
---congrats burroughs you were amazing.
p.s.- about the incomplete shows... many choirs do it due to time restrictions... 2 years ago at aztec... Burbank In Sync was pracitcally disqualified because we tried to fit our whole set.. so there is no reason to put it at risk. just my thought
Thanks for all of the wonderful feedback about Powerhouse. I was a little suprised by some of the choices in places but..then the judges are who they are and it makes sense now. Burbank was awesome as usual..I just have to agree though with Tscott about the arrangment of Open Arms. Journey is probably one of my favorite bands..and Cody my wonderful friend did excellent on the solo. But it just was so far off from the original I was having a hard time liking it, even if it sounded great. And Phill Collins was a drummer...I really missed the great drum intro into In the Air. I wish I had seen Carlsbad! And of course, Diamond Bar you make me go crazy in my seat with energy...It was like drinking five shots of ecpresso in a minute. Yeah! Can't wait for Diamond Bar...I have to clear the stage and RUN to see Hart. But I will!
I thought that everyone really took the SC circuit up to a new level at this competition...as with most competitions, I'd see some choirs that I know wouldnt place, but everyone seemed to be a top contender at Aztec Sing XXX!
Mark Keppel: Wow, you guys stepped up a level this year, and your opener "Our Lips are sealed" was awesome...I was iffy about the theme title. Are you guys mall rats, talking about the social aspects of shopping??
Brea Olinda: You guys were great, but still really safe. I would like to see some variety that differentiates you guys from last years set. Amazing vocals though!
Glendora: Wow, you guys improved greatly from last year! The guy doing the splits at the beginning was an entire show in itself " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> (I loved hearing the gasps every time he did the splits). The Jesus light show at the beginning was the best part!!
Burbank: Wow, you guys are so friggin' classy! I was confused and kind of disappointed when I saw the title "Ritzin' Out" cuz I thought you werent going to do "Puttin' on the Ritz" but you did! "Open Arms" was unrecognizable, because it was so classical in nature that the romantic Rock and Roll ballad essence that it should be was missing..The Phil Collins song at the end was great, but lacked raw emotion, something that Phil Collins is known for...If you incorporated the emotion of the song into your interpretation, then it would be incredible...haunting female sound...costumes are beautiful, but the jackets seem short-lived...
Arcadia: The housewife and the working husband theme of the first song was appropriate, but seemed outdated, especially for 2005. embraceable you was awesome...
That's my tuppence! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Help me out here, what school had the guy doing splits to measure the distance on the mics?

That's Ryan (?) from Glendora. He's a bit showy, but undeniably a great dancer. I thought Glendora as a whole was the best I'd ever seen them (and it's only Aztec!)

No point in mentioning the "Lowlights" of the evening.

Alright, I guess I'll refrain from posting my review, then.
What a wild ride last night was. Small sound, big sound, little shows and big show, it was great all the way. It's tough as a critic to be nice all the time, and apparently just as tough to be a judge. I agree completely with the top 5 winners from last night, just not the order handed out.
Highlights:
Did anybody go acapella better than Arcadia??? Flawless!! Just when I thought the chord had ended, it moved again, and again. REALLY clean and tight. WOW!
Help me out here, what school had the guy doing splits to measure the distance on the mics? Grreat dancer! Expertise like that really adds to a show.

Tough to beat the Burroughs Powerhouse! Smooth as silk in the fine evening wear, wtg!
I love to hear great arrangements of old hits like "Open Arms" and "In the air tonight", really well done Burbank.
No point in mentioning the "Lowlights" of the evening. This is really just a warm up night to shake out the musical bugs. Hopefully, the directors will take the judges criticisms positively and changes will be seen and heard at the DB Spectacular! next week.
