Finally figured out my login and I want everyone to know Kaitlin had NOTHING to do with it. I did not mean to offend anyone by what I said. And especially to Kevin Chase I think he is an amazing choreographer and person. And I never said waconias choreography is easy I just think totinos is more difficult and that is an opinion. I was just trying to get people to see that there is more that just how clean it is. There are many different things that go into that section. I was by no means trying to say one group is better than the other because as I said above I think all the groups are amazing. I think people just took my comment wrong and I am sorry I wasn't clear enough and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

There is a lot more that goes into choreography then just jazz hands and "armogrophy"

I think it is so easy to look at choreography and judge it from what the initial view is. But if you look at footwork and take the time to see the whole picture you would be surprised. And what may be "hard" to one person can be very easy to another.

One thing that I have noticed about Kevin's choreography is his staging is beautiful, and very clean looking where April James can tend to be a bit muddled and a little too much going on, and I think that has a serious effect on what looks "clean". Kevin gives his group very cleanable stuff but it is still hard, there is still a lot of footwork going on and those are the little things that count. I'm not sure a lot of people who are judges don't take that time to look at the footwork and the little things going on with dancing.

Both are incredible choreographers in themselves and there is a reason they both have won numerous best chore awards.

idk, that was kind of a ramble and kept getting distracted with work calls but Kevin's work is difficult in its own way just like Aprils is. They are both wonderful choreographers and there is a reason they are where they are. Totino and Waconia are two very good groups with two very different styles (in my opinion) and that is where it breaks down to a preference of the judge on that day.

This Jessi on Kaitlin's login. Ha I somehow always forget mine. But I just want people to know that choreography is not just about how clean it is, it is also about the difficulty. As a dancer I look at the level of difficulty more because anyone can do a easy clean dance but it takes real talent to make a hard dance look clean. I personally think that Totino does have harder choreography then waconia. Yes waconia may be clean but Totino could be just as clean if they were given that choreography. And as for bemidji I haven't seen their show yet so I can't really say anything about them. I just think people need to look at other things, not just how clean they are. I'm not at all trying to bash any group because I think they are all amazing at different things. This is just my opinion on the dancing.

"Easy" is not an adjective that should ever be connected with Kevin Chase's choreography.

Kevin's work is brilliant, and it shows through all of his groups.

To me, Kevin Chase combines many prominent features of several of the "Show Choir Greats". His choreography involves the delicate intricacy found in April James', the high-energy and power of Damon Brown's, the funky groove of Dwight Jordan's, and a certain sassy flare that only Kevin could provide.

He also conveys meaning through each of his moves. You can always find a direct and/or metaphorical relation between Kevin's choreography and the lyrics that inspire it, especially in Waconia's show this year.

Not only is Kevin Chase's work all of these things, but it is entertaining, effective, visually pleasing, well framed, and above all, challenging.

I would recommend taking a closer look at Waconia's show, as well as other Kevin Chase groups'. I think you'll find that clean and easy rarely go together.

Although I believe your point that difficulty is an important factor to consider when judging is very true and although I haven't seen Power Company at all yet this year I have a VERY hard time believing that the choreography that we'll see tomorrow from them could be considered "easy."

Totino has always sang beautifully. Maybe the truth is that more of their practices are vocal related and most of Power Company's are movement related and that's why we see a difference in chorography outcomes? It's been a few years since I graduated so I can't speak for how Mr. Olson organizes practices from week to week because it may have changed, but this is all just a thought.

Also, I would rather see choreography be easy and clean than difficult and messy. A messy choir, no matter how hard the choreography, is not visually appealing.

On one last note, what defines difficult? And just because choreography is clean doesn't mean it's easy.

Keep in mind that it was probably high schoolers running the music. Do you really expect that to not pop up at all?
Yes, I expect that to not pop up at all.

I "thumbs up"d your comment, Cecelia!
haha miss you babes.

Actually the Milton playlist had several songs with obscene/vulgar lyrics that were totally inappropriate for show choir. One song contained a 'm***** ******', another had multiple mentions of 's***'.

eh, sorry. i didn't really notice. then don't talk to milton. haha!

(i probably didn't notice because i kind of consider words to be words but that's due to george carlin and it's a whole different discussion, completely unrelated to show choir.)

This will be a super close competition. I could even see 2nd and 3rd taking the captions and the winner not taking any captions. It will be a hard decision for the judges to make.

This x 100. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Totino, Waconia, and Bemidji all have to bring their A game because anything less could throw them out of finals at a stiff competition like this. Everyone on here seems to have those guys somewhere in the top three, but if they get cocky and slack off they may not be sticking around for finals.

On the other hand, I think the last three spots will be almost just as close as the top three. I've always admired Eau Claire for letting a junior varsity group perform in finals. Just a few years ago we could see that these jv groups didn't necessarily score as close to the varsity groups whereas now there has been huge growth in jv groups, and the jv group that wins first in their division and goes into finals may not end up in last place. Like everyone else has been saying it really depends on the judges and how everyone performs. I remember doing this on a form once last year, (I think it was Hastings,) so I'm going to give my "fun" predictions below. Feel free to join me.
