Yeah that one threw me for a loop too. No point in defending or arguing about it. Their record stands on it's own. The You Tube videos are out there. Nuff said.

because youtube and live are the same thing...

Hastings has never been strong vocally??? bahahaha, one of the top singing groups in the nation. I dont even know why I keep defending them but they have ALWAYS been strong in vocals.

Clinton, Burroughs, Burbank, Waubonsie Valley, and Totino-Grace would all make for one amazing competition.
You could probably add Fairfield into that group.

Maybe someone should set up a "SCC Favorites Competition" where all of the groups invited by those of us who use the website can come meet in one central location for one amazing competition.

Through Wheaton-Warrenville to that mix and you'd have a real old fashioned "sh*t-show" .... literally no way I would miss a competition like that....

Clinton v. Burroughs seems to be a 'rivalry' that is gaining momentum. It's such a huge clash of styles, that it could really go either way whenever they meet, depending on regional taste. Burbank, over the past few years, has been one of, if not the most innovative groups to sweep the nation and they seem to only be getting better with each year passed. Hopefully the three of them can hit up regional FAME competitions and meet in Indianapolis in 2012.

Like Häakon said, Los Al is a group that has made a splash out of SoCal and Hart seems to do pretty well whenever they head East. Another group that should be considered an elite program, as of right now, is Waubonsie Valley (undefeated for 2 years running and only stumbling once in 2008 at FAME Chicago vs. Burroughs/Clinton/North Central)

I wonder if Burbank or John Burroughs had come to this competition, who would have taken home Grand Champion? Are these groups capable of taking Clinton? What about other Western groups? Burbank and Burroughs are just the two I've heard of, but feel free to add any others into the mix that you think are strong.
Burroughs beat Clinton in 2008 and 2009. Clinton beat Burroughs in 2005 and 2010. Burbank has ever only gone up against Clinton in 2009 (when Burroughs was also there) and they came in third, but obviously with all three there, someone had to. Burroughs and Burbank obviously go head-to-head all of the time. They're all extremely capable choirs capable of besting the other on a given day.

As for other California choirs, Los Al has proven themselves to be a contender as well this year. I think they have a strong chance of doing well at Finale, but I admit that my knowledge of the other groups (for 2011) is limited.

ps. people: comment slowly cuz once we got to 21 we're screwed again.

And of course I would be the one to bring us to page 21. Fail.

Hastings' vocals were not that strong last year. I was at FAME Chicago and I had them in 5th vocally. I had them rather close to Totino in choreography, but Hastings has never been a group that sings extraordinarily well. I don't think I'll be able to see them this year but I hear that their vocals this year are much better than years past

You heard right - Hastings is rocking it vocally this season (in my opinion)

This sounds like it was an amazing competition that was very tight. I love Clinton's style and they have simply owned the midwest and south recently. I also admire Clinton's ability to go to the tough competitions and take on the big boys. (2010-Fairfield, 2011-Totino) Congrats Attache on another great win.

Their ballad last year is proof positive of their vocal prowess.

One song does not mean that a group automatically has fantastic vocals. Their ballad was good, but the rest of the show the vocals were lacking. At FAME Chicago there were 4 other groups with ballads that were just as good, if not better than Hastings, and those groups also kept up a consistent vocal performance all throughout. Hastings strength has always been in their choreography, not their vocals

Well that was the judge's opinion. I was at FAME and everyone that I talked to thought LC killed it in finals, and I didn't hear anyone complain about them moving to 2nd. Their vocals were extremely strong, only 2nd best to Totino, and that ballad was WOW. Hastings didn't sing that well last year, but their choreography was really really really strong, probably 2nd best to Totino. I could definitely see how a vocal judge would place Hastings 5th. I mean Totino, LC, CR Kennedy, and Huntington North all sang lights out and personally I would've put Hastings 5th vocally.

I feel that Hastings' vocals were strong last year. This year they are a different sound but also wonderful. I had the opportunity to see them compete last year and with such an intense choreography they were amazing in their ability to sing beautifully and move the way they did. Their ballad last year is proof positive of their vocal prowess.

They blew everyone away in finals. I was NOT a fan of them after seeing them in prelims. When they took they stage in finals it was like seeing a brand new show choir. They had some AMAZING vocal moments that took my breathe away.

Oh i agree, i was horrified with what I saw... i almost didn't have them in finals too!
