agreed but i can understand why the do...i remember my senior yr LC competed agains CG at WC and we were like 4 points behind visually and 2 points vocally but wen averaged it was a 2pt diff...i think they do that to cut down on one score blowing it for groups however it still messes with scores some what just not as much if they aren't averaged.
So when they average out the scores it changes them? I know it changes the number but it messes it up? This is confusing.

I think they should just give the points straight up so we don't get confused. haha.

Typically you divide by the number of judges to average....there were 5. I am just using logic, sorry if I am wrong. I was at the competition today for day round though - and I do know they did some sort of averaging. I also wouldn't be surprised if the difference WAS that large from raw scores.

So multiplying 4 x 5 = 20 and it probably wasn't exactly 4, maybe like, 4.3 or something...

I highly doubt it was 20-30 even if scores are averages the difference wont be that huge from the raw scores

I know that Sioux City East was .2 away from finals. Have you EVER seen .1 or .2 on a score sheet? It's averaged, my guess is that it's about 20 - 30 points between 1st and 4th with the raw scores.

I highly doubt it was 20-30 even if scores are averages the difference wont be that huge from the raw scores
Example:
one choir gets vocal score of 135 the other gets 115 (20 pt diff)
the 1st choir gets 120 for visual choir2 gets 110 (ten pt diff)

c1- 255/2= 127.5 c2- 225/2=112.5 ots diff 15 after averages not as far apart as 30 points but its not .2 diff = 20 - 30 points)

Oh I see! Why do they average them out?

Wow that's close. I wouldn't have expected it to be that close! Good luck everyone. I can't wait to see the performances! I'm nervous for them! 15 MINUTES 'TIL RESULTS!

Placements were:

Totino
Hastings
Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Lawrence Central
Huntington North
Horizon
Sioux City East

Remember that Fame averages their scores. So unless a director actually added up all groups points themselves, they can't figure it out. The composite sheet that the directors get after preliminaries are all averaged. My guess is that 2 points is really more like 10-20.

Oh dear god there's a 2 point separation between TG and Hastings? I find myself not surprised though, Hastings has a great show. Who won Best Band?

I really wish I could see them both perform! I guess I'll just have to get the DVD! Good luck to both Minnesota groups, TG & Hastings! I hope they both do well!
