I for one somewhat agree with the talk about Gary Schwartzoff. He can be VERY inconsistent as a judge.... Again, not saying he isn't qualified. Sometimes I just wonder what he is thinking while he judges...
Now, keep in mind that T-G got a 5th from him ( among a 1st, and three 2nds). His scores did not have a huge impact, but most judges with experience keep track of their scores to get the final order they want- so I don't think the order he had was a mistake.
So, even knowing he had us placed where he did, I still feel strongly he is a qualified judge.
Dr. Schwartzhoff has been judging for years, and does work at UW-Eau Claire that could be called show choir. I don't know if he has taught high school show choir, but here is his extensive bio listing some of what he HAS done: Gary Schwartzhoff
As you can see, he's very knowledgeable and experienced. We have been judged by people who have nothing more than a high school degree, vague bio, and a bad reputation. Even though I disagree with his finals order (duh, I'm biased!), I would much rather it came from him.
Anyway, Isn't anyone else bothered by the fact that the scores all add up to different amounts??? It's making me CRAZY.
for the last at least 15 years i believe...Schwartzhoff has been running an event at UWEC called caberet which is a 2 houyr long show choir show with his choirs.
also if you look at the sheets sparky all of the eau claire scores he has given are pretty consistant with the other judges as well
certainly not. it does however make a difference if you know the nature of the beast. and to Wiscshow choirwhatever, you're right if they stuck with straight points, he didnt have much of an impact at all, however, its still interesting that he had them so ahead of the other judges regardless of point spread.
I've always felt that Shwartzamykoff should NOT be judging high school show choir. He's an idiot, not to mention playing favorites it appears to Eau Claire. Tell me has he ever taught high school show choir?
I don't think having taught high school choir is the only criteria for being able to judge.
Last year at Hastings Schwartzhoff was the only judge to put Eau Claire in 6th place. (When they converted to ranks, meaning placement really mattered).
As for this year, they ran it straight with points, so the fact that he had them all really close together (with the exception of Papillian) Means he barely affected the scores at all.
So I don't know how you get he's favoring Eau Claire, because he didn't do anything to help them at all. If they converted the scores to ranks, then it would have had more of an effect, but they would have stayed 5th.
He's been doing a lot of judging last year, and this year. Schools seem to like him, and call him back... If teaching High School show choir were a requirement, a lot of judges couldn't judge.

Since everything is given anyway, there should be no problem in posting this:
Notice how, ignoring the total areas, adding the judges scores straight across do not add up to the total, in my previous post (from the top) I corrected those to be what is shown for the judges scores. The rounding takes place in both this sheet, and the individual group's breakdown sheets. It's very hard to distinguish how they rounded without the other groups breakdowns. Also, It's confusing why they rounded if they allowed .5s in the first place.
Here is the breakdown for Totino Grace:
Please remember that these little rounding inconsistencies did not change the outcome of the competition. We're simply looking at these trying to determine the system being used here.
The scores listed on our individual group breakdown are a bit different than the scores listed on the finals scoresheet- BUT the scores are not consistently different. Some are rounded up, some are not rounded at all.
Like I said, I'm completely lost. And irritated by that 5th place!
NOTE: On the score sheets, the totals for each category are different than what's posted. There was some rounding or something, but adding straight judges scores (given on the final score sheet) across, you come up with these numbers, which did NOT affect the out come.
Gosh, these are confusing when looking at the score sheet.
Actually the real reason Adam is posting is that I've been staring at the Hastings scores for two days, and I'm utterly lost. They rounded scores at some point during the process, but it's not clear or consistent where the rounding was done. I'm just completely confused.
