Sauk Prairie is a ONE OF A KIND show choir competition.
Tom Terrien... Sauk Prairie's everlasting choreographer judges the competition. Other judges, my source had no clue who they were.
Mayville's show is supposedly themed- The Hunchback of Norte Dame.
In the years that I went to Sauk Prairie- I really felt that themed/musical shows had the edge with the judges and scoring wise.
That is just my two cents... I am NOT trying to discount any of these results because I have seen NONE of these groups yet. Competitions are known for staying close result wise from day to night... but there are competitions that do lots of flip flopping. Take for example La Crosse Central at Mo Show 2006- 4th in prelims... GC at night. (eerily opposite this time)
1st- La Crosse Central
2nd- Mayville (highest vocal score of the day)
3rd- Onalaska
4th- Milton
5th- Monona Grove
6th- Madison East (highest choreography score of the day)
GC: Mayville
1st RU:Milton
2ndRU: Onalaska
3rdRU:GCS
4thRU:Monona Grove
5thRU:Madison East
BV/BC:Milton
BB:Mayville
All I can say is that history has a way of repeating itself. Our final Choralation compeition 2 years ago at Lax. Logan the exact same situation happened, where Choralation got BOTH Best Vocals and Best Choreo. yet somehow managed to get 2nd place. Very Frustrating I know!
From what I remember, the scoring at Sauk is a little different from everywhere else. They construct the scoring in a way that everything is out of 100 points. Not sure of how the math works, but scores, after all the judges are in, are something like 76.2 rather than 526. So, 15 points is actually a pretty big spread compared to other competitions.
GCS
Mayville
Milton
Monona Grove
Madison East
Onalaska
Spread was only 15 points from top place to bottom. We took 7th, and missed 6th by 2 POINTS. This was probably due to technical problems at that, which is unfortunate, if not ridiculous. Gus will probably chime in later tonight; we're on the bus.
There are many groups going to this comp. that I could see making finals. It should be very, very interesting to see how it turns out.
I think either Milton or GCS could go away as the GC. I haven't seen/ heard about GCS this year, but obviously they have done very well previous years. Milton is always great. I strongly believe that they should have placed higher at MG.
Groups other besides those two who could make finals are:
Preble- Didn't see them at Colby, but I know they are good competition. I'm sure they have improved alot since then.
Neenah- I saw them at Monona and I really do think they are underestimated. And their dresses are wicked.
Mayville- I enjoy their show this year tons better than last and this is Sauk so they could do very well.
Onalaska- I think I saw them at Monona, but I don't remember much from their show so....
Monona Grove- Their show is very fun this year, and they have already been doing better than expected this season.
Haven't seen Parkview, and Reedsburg...umm, idk. I don't think they will make finals compaired to the other groups here.
There have definitely been some strange predictions so far... but who knows, maybe a big shake up is in store for us at Sauk.
And hopefully the first of those surprises will be Preble in finals! ;)
Our show is definitely better from the one we performed at Colby, and we are all SUPER psyched for tomorrow. Leaving at 6:10am, whoopee, but I can't wait to see all the amazing groups there. Good luck to everyone performing tomorrow and we hope that everyone attending enjoys Preble's show!
Two words-
It. Happens.
