I happened to spot Dave M. (Los Al's director) as I was leaving, talking with the directors of BV and Carlsbad. Seems there was an adding error in the scoring and BV beat Carlsbad in music. This is UNofficial news, since I'm not sure of the details, but that would explain the confusion.

Congrats to all of the groups. It was a great night!

That's right. The music points were added incorrectly and it turned out that Bonita Vista "The Music Machine" beat Carlsbad "Sound Express" in Musicianship. The final totals came out the same. Just FYI: out of 1200 points - Bonita Vista got 1140 and Carlsbad got 1133.5 - really close! Great Performances to both Bonita Vista & Carlsbad!!

These time limits should have a grace period. maybe 5 minutes after the 35th minute just in case there were complications with the set up. i hate the fact that time penalties affect placements. sometimes there could be a 0.5 difference between 1st and 2nd and time shouldnt be a factor to placements because it ruins the hard work kids, from any of the choirs, put in.

So, Powerhouse would've taken 2nd without the time penalty?

And, how did Bonita win if they and Carlsbad tied show but Carlsbad won music?

That is correct about Powerhouse. I'm not sure what the situation was for Carlsbad but my guess is that they may also have had a penalty of some sort; I don't see how it's mathematically possible otherwise.

Interesting, these time penalties are unfortunate.

Or not going over the time limit....
There was a time penalty that did affect the scores, but not first place.

Congrats to all of the groups who competed and had amazing shows!
