Homewood might make it over the third middle mixed group, but I could be wrong... Pascagoula and West Jones beat Homewood at South Jones, and Spain Park is usually great... Plus, don't forget about Oak Mountain... They suprised everyone last year when they beat Spain Park and West Jones... I would think that "Con Brio" would have a chance to make the finals, but we will just have to see..

yes they have always split choirs into A and AA divisions at Southern Showcase.

After prelims, we will announce the top 3 places of the A division. Then we will announce the top 5 finalists. The top 5 finalists will be selected from all of the mixed groups, no matter the division. (I chose not to announce the top 3 of the AA division after prelims because more than likely these groups will be in finals --- However, we have some very strong A groups so you never know). I wish all participating groups the best of luck. It is going to be a great weekend.

So, someone tell me if i am right. The top 5 scores will go to finals and the first place of the small mix is not assured a spot in finals, unless they score higher than a large group? Am i analyzing this correctly?

I'm so ready. It'll be the first comepetition this year where the finalists and/or winners aren't obvious before the competition even starts. That and I'm ready to see Opelika and Enterprise. I have a feeling that it's going to be a good year for show choir in Alabama.

EDIT: Just kidding about Enterprise. I forgot they're not coming. I'm officially mad at them now.

Surely there are... the only thing that I got however was that the Finals will be announced after the A division awards... I didn't hear anything about the AA prelim awards.

After all the groups have competed in the afternoon session, the preliminary awards for groups in the A division will be announced (GC, 1RU, 2RU).

are there no prelim awards for AA?

Trey, do you know how they're going to pick the finalists?

Here is how finals will be determined...

After all the groups have competed in the afternoon session, the preliminary awards for groups in the A division will be announced (GC, 1RU, 2RU). After that, they will announce the 5 finalists for the competition which will be the 5 mixed groups (regardless of size) with the highest scores. So, there is no automatic tie-in with the A division winner and the Finals (but something tells me that the GC of that division will have a high enough score to make it into the Finals)

Even though Dwight choreographs them both (Clinton and Mount Zion)

I've heard the same, but when you look at it, they have such a different style. It's almost a different medium of Show Choir to me.

Mt Zion is good. The Clinton comparison is a bit shaky I think. Clinton is so clean. The reason they win is there cleanliness, attention to detail, and stage presence. I mean music and choreography is one thing but it is the OTHER stuff that wins it. I just don't think Mt. Zion is as good because they don't have that all out SHARP factor. But still a very good group. Clinton's vocals are also very phenominal!

Is the venue a high school, or someplace else?

The competition is at Opelika High School (Opelika, AL) at the Opelika Perfoming Arts Center (OPAC).
