I know the schedule hasn't even been released yet, but here are some interesting facts related to this competition (I'm bored today and decided to take a look at previous years):
-Clinton hasn't competed against Homewood since 2017 at Petal. Clinton swept and Homewood got 1st runner-up (and rumor is that Homewood was VERY close to Clinton in the vocal caption at that competition).
-Clinton hasn't competed against Brandon since 2018 at Homewood, where Clinton also swept and Brandon got 1st runner-up.
-Brandon and Homewood have competed against each other 5 times, and Homewood has beaten Brandon all 5 times (I personally think that could change this year..)
-Brandon is the 2 time defending Grand Champion of this competition, sweeping in 2020 and only losing the vocal caption to West Jones last year.
-With this upcoming season, it will be 10 years since Clinton has lost a competition (last time they lost was in 2013).
Homewood was close to Clinton in everything at Petal in 2017, but vocals was the closest caption. I don’t remember the exact breakdown, but it was around 10 points from five judges. From what I’ve seen from Homewood this year, they’re much stronger than 2017, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll win this time. I think the safest bet (with the groups you have posted as coming) would be:
1. Clinton (sweep)
2. Homewood
3. Brandon
4. West Jones
5. Pearl River Central
Hoping for a schedule for this one soon. I'll make a general prediction about Brandon: Clinton will be the only Southern group to beat them this year, and they will come within 10 points of Clinton here.
Homewood will be at Opelika instead of this contest. Got confirmation on that last night and just forgot to say anything. COVID is not fun, and I’ve been getting about 30 hours of sleep every day because of it.
The scary thing for Attaché is they're facing threats at each of their competitions this year.
they face a stronger and more game Brandon here. (i think the point gap will be 20+)
they face WWS, Flight and some other strong groups at Glenwood. (I also think the point gap will be 15-30 points)
they face NWR in a rematch at Biloxi (Last year NWR came within 7 points). (I think If any group will come within 10 points, It'll be NWR.)
As crazy as this may sound, I honestly think Brandon is the least threatening show choir (within the capability of actually challenging them).
And of course I have to qualify everything I just said with the fact that none of these groups, aside from the midwestern ones, have even started competing yet. So I'll be updating this statement after Feb 4th. A real shame Homewood won't be there. I think Brandon would've beat them this year.
As great as NWR was last year, I'm pretty surprised they came within 7 points of Clinton. I do expect NWR to be much stronger this year, and they will definitely be a major threat to all Southern groups including Clinton this year. And yes, Brandon most likely would have beaten Homewood here (I'm still crossing my fingers Homewood will decide to come here instead of Opelika, but it sounds unlikely). Brandon may not come within 10 points of Clinton like I predicted, but I still stand by my prediction that Clinton will be the only Southern group to beat Brandon this season.
Homewood and Brandon both have Fall Show videos up. No idea how much of either of those actually is part of competition shows, but we’ll find out soon. Whenever the first live-streamed contest occurs for each, which for Homewood will be Albertville. No idea what it is for Brandon.
We still are. Homewood High School is coming, but Homewood Middle School isn’t. Assuming I’m reading what KJ said correctly. I think the top three are pretty distinctive (say twenty point difference between each one of them), with Homewood being a clear 2nd place. Maybe it’s Homewood vs. Clinton, maybe it’s Homewood vs. Brandon, but it’s more likely that those three schools come into this contest with the “predictable” placements locked down barring a particularly bad or good performance by any of them. Anyone know if this contest will have finals?
Ahh well good. I was just confused but I’m definitely excited to see Homewood up against Clinton and Brandon was kind of sad when he said that but now I’m excited to see it happen.
