\ Since much of the appeal of Show Choir is very personal and certain styles appeal to certain people. I think variety adds to the experience regardless of the placements and trophies. If hardware were the only measure of our success, our groups would build their show to get ratings/placements/trophies.
I have to agree with CSDAD, I sometimes enjoy the groups that don't necessarily win everything. And this is just because they are edgier or try something out of the ordinary. Although quality is important, I hate to see clone after clone going up on stage with the same sequin dress on, doing basically the same songs, and not really having a "show" just more of a collection of songs. I am not saying these groups shouldn't win because I really think some groups out there are outstanding singers and dancers. Just saying that sometimes it is nice to see variety whether or not they are winning shows!
Good luck to everyone this weekend! Oh and here are my predictions: (sorry couldn't decide between the last 4 haha, I really just think it depends on how those groups perform during the day, because quality of the groups is usually pretty close)
GC: Waubonsie Valley
1RU: Huntington North
2RU: Lawrence Central
3RU: Mt. Zion/Manteno/Hersey/Norwell
4RU: Mt. Zion/Manteno/Hersey/Norwell
I guess we are fortunate that the judges will decide the placements. Since much of the appeal of Show Choir is very personal and certain styles appeal to certain people, we can only hope the judges try to remain objective and fair in their assessments. Since our style is very different from Huntington (and many others), we sometimes get penalized for being different. I think variety adds to the experience regardless of the placements and trophies. If hardware were the only measure of our success, our groups would build their show to get ratings/placements/trophies.
HN may very well be GC this weekend. Most of the fun I derive from the events if the fact that-like the Super Bowl-all groups still need to perform and be judged based on that day's performances.
I do know that after Warren Central last weekend many choirs approached the LC kids and complimented them on their show and the unique style

Yes, this is true... I also enjoyed Huntington North much more last year. So even though Lawrence Central did beat Huntington North once I will still say that HN was better last year, and I will still predict HN to beat LC at Center Grove.
Mixed
GC: Huntington North
1RU: Waubonsie Valley

3RU: Mt. Zion
4RU: Hersey/Norwell
I watched a couple of these shows on youtube. Now, I know this isn't the most accurate representation of them, but I do what I can. Waubonsie I had never seen before, but I was pretty impressed with their quality. Judging from what I've seen from past HN shows, I still think they have what it takes to win. I wasn't too impressed with Mt. Zion, relatively, but... eh. Anyone else is just a blind guess on reputation.
I would predict a Waubonsie Valley sweep, except Huntington North is known for having amazing shows at competitions with really hard groups: aka.... winning North Central 2003 against Teays, Lafayette Jefferson, etc. winning Franklin Central 06 against Center Grove, Mt. Zion, and Crete Monee. And then last year at Homestead they beat Fairfield. So I would never count them out. They have some of the most powerful vocals that are very chorally focused. Their band is always AMAZING!!! And the past few years their choreography has been amazing. I'm also gonna predict Waubonsie Valley will win, but I don't think it is gonna be as easy as people think. I especially think HN will win Best Band.
Not to be mean but we beat them once last year and they beat us ONCE last year!

does the gc of small mixed automatically make finals? or is it highest scores? it seems like the past few years the small mixed gc is always in finals, so i'm curious...
I think that four of the groups coming are truly champion groups, LC being one of them, and that it will really be a toss-up. The finals competition, unless Huntington North is very strong on their first weekend out or Waubonsie just blows everyone out of the water like they did last week, will be quite close.
I think LC always presents a strong show vocally and choreographically.
Interesting. The last 2 times LC and Huntington have competed LC placed ahead of Huntington. Where is the love for LC?

It sounds like attendance at Best of the Midwest is going to be pretty slim giving the lack of chatter about this competition. Is this assumption correct?
