This is what I believe to be the single most competitive event this season. By no means are any of these predictions safe bets, because literally every group attending is well-established and extremely talented, and there is lots of room for movement here. I’m unsure what finals numbers are taken (I’m guessing 4 or 5) but even groups that I’m not listing are genuinely some of my favorites in the country this year! Wow… wouldn’t wanna judge this one.
MIXED
GC - Center Grove “Sound System” (BV)
1RU - Brandon “Brio” (BC)
2RU - Mitchell “Friend de Coup”
3RU - Omaha Westside “Amazing Technicolor Show Choir”
UNIVOICE
GC Center Grove “Debtones (BV, BC)
1RU Tupelo “Synergy”
All groups competing here (with the exception of 1 middle school group) have won at least once this season, and 5 out of the 7 mixed groups were Grand Champions of their most recent competitions.. this is going to be wild.
Super excited for this competition. It is going to be a great way to finish out competition season for my choir, and will be a great competition for my last competition ever, because I'm in my senior year right now. Good luck to everyone competing!
You are correct. For a while, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (the big one) and the University of Nebraska-Omaha both had show choirs, so we on Crew use UNL for the Big Red Singers. UNL actually hosts a competition each year in January, which I had the privilege of attending this year.
UNL is what they promote on their campus literature. At least, that's what they did back when I attended in the mid-00s. There is also UNO (Omaha) and UNK (Kearney). I really want to make up what the E could possibly be? There really aren't any decent-sized towns for a college in Nebraska that start with E.
No clue about captions for the middle school groups but those will likely be the top 2. As far as the treble division, I think Debtones will sweep. Tupelo did beat Franklin Central High Voltage here last year, so they could possibly come close to Debtones this year, but it will be very tough. For mixed division, as amazing as Brio is this year, Sound System is one of the best singing groups in the country so I think they will win because of that. But considering Brio swept WWS and came fairly close to Clinton this season, they will definitely not make it easy for Sound System to win here. Indiana is possibly the strongest show choir state in the entire country and the top groups from there are incredibly strong, so as of now I think Center Grove will come out on top in both divisions. Best of luck to Brandon and Tupelo though!
Hopefully a schedule for this will be released soon, there are some very strong groups competing here. Having seen videos of both Brandon and Omaha Westside this season, they are very similar in design/choreography. They are both choreographed by Stephen Todd and I'm pretty sure the same arranger did both of their shows (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But that would explain the similarities in their style. It will be interesting to see how Brandon stacks up against these amazing groups!
It's looking like it'll be a good lineup based on the groups I know are attending so far:
Brandon
Omaha Westside
Waltham
Ross
Mitchell
Grosse Pointe South
Center Grove
