it just depends on the host.i tried to stay as much as i could unless chula had to go back to the room or we had to figure something out.
Oh I see. :/ I thought it would be more interesting to talk to my hosts if they stayed with us haha. xD
Awesome job to all the groups who competed on Saturday!!! I am so proud of Tundercats, Spellbound, and Masquerade!! A phenomenal Job!! I could not of asked for anything more!!! I just have to say I love show choir!!!
I was wondering, were the host suppose to stay with us the whole time? I saw my hosts in the warm up room and after the performance, but other than that it's like they were never there.

to add even more of a conspiracy, wasn't Clinton Attache's director a judge at Nationals? By having Burbank lose, Burbank's national ranking went down keeping Attache further ahead as the "top choir".
Your Avatar (Curly Joe) is extremely appropriate. I believe you are still upset that Burbank beat Burroughs at SoCal 2009 and you blame Mr. Fehr, even though EVERY judge had Burbank over Burroughs.
Please don't post ignorant statements. No one is talking about SoCal 2009 and I wasn't involved with Powerhouse in 2009. I do not even know if Mr. Fehr was a judge at SoCal 2009 nor do I care.
I do not question Burbank beating Powerhouse last year or this year. Both schools have excellent programs. It's like the Yankees playing the Red Sox. Either one can beat the other on any given day.
It is not really a bold statement. First, show choirs do want that top rank no matter how much in public they say it is BS. I haven't heard of any choir that was ranked #1 turn down the ranking, have you?
Show choir competitions don't seem to have a problem with the judges relationship with the choirs they are judging. However, the viewing public looks at it as not being kosher. Perception is the point. I doubt having Phil Jackson of the Lakers being the referee during a Laker game would look fair even if Phil was the most honest ref in the world. Having directors of choirs act as judges in a show where they are judging choirs they compete against looks okay to you? Having choreographers act as judges where the choirs they choreographed are performing at the competition look fair to you?

Mr. Fehr was a judge at Show Choir Nationals, but I can assure you he judged based on what he saw on the stage. He is a professional and would never judge based on something as silly as the Show Choir Ratings System. I don't know a single director that I have personally encountered who puts any stock whatsoever in that ranking.
I do have some complaint about the scoring system used in the finals at SCN since they simply do a ranking of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. without any kind of score sheet. It makes it much easier for it to be way more about preference than about the execution of the show. I'm guessing he just didn't prefer Burbank's type of show if anything.
A Burbank dad floated that theory to me at SCN and I felt a little bad because I actually laughed out loud when he suggested it before I composed myself and explained how little most people in the show choir community think of the SCRS.
My son, formerly a show choir kid, once said to me, "Dad, it's the parents that get the most upset about the judging and the placement...not so much the kids." I think he's right.
I'm not upset at all. Sad for a moment but then I know all of the kids in every choir performed their best and I can't be upset about that. I don't lose any sleep over the results.
But if show choirs are to be "judged" then I expect the judging to be as unbiased as possible. That includes eliminating the perception of bias. The kids and their parents spend too much time, effort, and money to be provided anything less.
It was a great competition this past weekend. All of the choirs were excellent and the skill levels were equal among the choirs. That was reflected in the close scoring.
