It just seems a little odd that it would come from a school that isn't in the "main" controversy. Especially "Encore," as that is the prep group. But maybe he was the first to find out? Who knows?

The whole things just sounds a little strange to me. Davenport won Best Choreo and Band, and they lost vocals because of one judge's terribly low score. It would have had to have been some
math error.

All the same, I am a citizen of Davenport, and I might be a little bias, but Davenport did perform like the Grand Champions of that competition. No offense to Dowling, they were also great, but I felt as if Davenport was stronger. Of course, show choir judging deals with quite a bit of politics.

Were you / are you in show choir "Citizen of Davenport"? What's TRULY strange is, how you just pop out of no where and start posting on a topic that lies so close to you heart.

I'm not saying the information is absolutely true... because I haven't the foggiest... but why is it strange that it came from a Muscatine director? Muscatine DID compete. If you look at the original results... Muscatine supposedly placed 3rd Runner Up... the new results has them 2nd Runner Up, so they were effected too. Maybe he was the first to read his email? Maybe it was sent tonight.

I've spoke to one Davenport Central performer... and he had no clue of this. He was shocked.

Is there any information to back this claim up? Its strange that it is coming from Muscatine, and not Dowling , Davenport, or SE Polk.

From what I understand, Central was ahead of Dowling by every judge, except one. Its hard to believe there would be a math error, and even if there was, that they would come out with it publically.

(This is a new account, my old one isn't working)

How sad. I feel bad for both groups...

It's like Milton's 2007 competition all over again... but worse.

Yeah, Thankfully with our competition, the mathematical error was with scores going into finals, and was caught, and, somewhat fixed.

This is really unfortunate.

I kind of feel sorry for the school that put this comp. on this could really effect future participation. I hope it doesn't.

It turns out that there were mathematical errors which caused the final results to be incorrect. The new results are:

Grand Champion: Dowling Catholic "Dimensions"
1st Runner-Up: Davenport Central "Central Singers, Inc."
2nd Runner-Up: Muscatine "River City Rhythm"
3rd Runner-Up: Pella "Acapella"
4th Runner-Up: Hinton "Soundwaves"
5th Runner-Up: Emmetsburg "High Voltage"

Ouch. Never the kind of news you want to hear. But - I guess a belated congrats to Dowling for their first GC ever (and only the 2nd time they've ever made a finals anywhere). Guess bringing on Jody was a very, very good thing!

Has Dimensions competed anywhere else this year? how are they doing? I havent ever heard of or seen them!

Their first contest was a couple weeks ago at Okoboji, where they finished 3rd over all - the first time ever they've made finals (so that's already a huge step forward for them - even if it was a smaller contest).

They're also scheduled for Emmetsburg and of course, here at SE Polk.

Johnston isn't going this year but has gone in past years, and it's a great competition -- well run, friendly volunteers, more intimate atmosphere. I know Dowling Catholic is bringing its varsity group, Dimensions, under the direction of Jody White, who directed Johnston for 29 years. I saw Dowling yesterday and wow! What a difference from last year. They were terrific.

Good luck and have fun! We love Southeast Polk and will miss being there.

Im really mad that we arnt coming this year. we were supposed to come last year but it was the weekend of the huge ice storm and our director told us we couldnt go. then we were planning on coming here this year and i guess it overlaps some speech thing. so we have to go to western dubuque instead. neway good luck everyone
