as best as i can recall at 2 am:

daytime awards

class c runner-up: milton union
class c champion: lehman catholic

class b runner-up: tecumseh
class b champion: twinsburg

class a runner-up: marysville
class a champion: fairfield

best male & female soloists went to marysville (evan zimmerman & grace underwood)

daytime and evening scores were determined using olympic-style scoring (high and low scores dropped).

thanks to tom and everyone from piqua for their hospitality... good luck to everyone the rest of the competition season.

To all the choirs at this competition, EXCELLENT... honestly i had know idea where to put fairfield, Twinsburg, or FC after finals... you were all so good it really would be hard to gripe about a different set of placements... Granted i wanted FC to do better, but i sort of expected the ohio set of choirs to sit in standing together... the styles are so different that it was a case of what the judges preferred... though marysville... You were exceptional!!! anway... i'll do my comments this way

GC: Marysville -- Your show is absolutely incredible. Your vocals are outstanding, your choreo is SUPER CLEAN, although, i don't think very exciting... i have to admit that if i was a parent in the stands from another choir, who didn't really know or care much about what judges look for, you would have put me to sleep. BUT from my point of view, the sheer exactness of everything you did kept me at the edge of my seat. LOVE YOU to DEATH but i still hope FC catches up to you at Edgewood.

1 RU: Fairfield -- For the past 2 years you guys had my favorite or in the top 5 favorite shows of the year. This year... Not so much. I'm getting a little tired of the horns blasting me in the face in the middle of every show you do, and i am definately tired of the Neon... but i don't know Your vocals are still excellent, your choreo clean and crisp... I love what you do on stage i just think that in relation to Twinsburg, you were virtually the same choir. I really wanted the Fairfield flair that i saw the past 2 years, but i'm wondering now if it was always just the flashing lights that got me.

2RU: Twinsburg-- i actually highly underestimated you. The only big thing i didn't like about your show were the band arrangements... VERY hoaky in my opinion. Most of what i heard was the Synth Strings...? very chordal all the time and it just sounded fake... i don't know if it was a balance issue or if it just is written that way, but for your opener and 2nd number i thought you had no horns. i felt like your Vocals were about 80 percent and your choreo at about 95 percent. The only time i was really INTO your show was after the final costume change, the rest was kind of a drag for me personally. Still, You're clean, the vocals are there, the band was pretty good and i can understand the placement.

3RU: Franklin Central-- What a heartbreaker guys... I love your show this year and your vocals are amazing. You got a standing O for your ballad this afternoon and i don't think i've ever seen that happen for FC. The only thing that i think hurt you tonight was the solos... I heard that your opener soloist was sick, so thats probably why the timing issue happened at the beginning... But you recovered well. I'm really glad that Mr G isn't having you slow "unwritten" down like everyone else, If FC can pull off a mouthful like last years Comedy number surely you can get it down. I guess diction in the Willy Wonka also... Just a hard piece to do... As i said before, your ballad is rockin awesome... The only thing i guess i don't like is the "right now" song... the band arrangement sounds really flimsy after your opener that is so hard hitting. Even though it's overdone i would like to see you all do "Moondance" just because i think you'd do it better than anyone has, and damon does AWESOME couple choreo...ANYWAY
GET MARYSVILLE AT EDGEWOOD!!!! (sorry marysville... i love you still)

4RU: FC GIRLS!!! -- WHOA! i didn't know where all that sound came from all the sudden... at the school on thursday night you sounded so quiet and shy... i was excited and kinda surprised to hear that you were in finals... Then i heard you and i understood why!!! way to rock the house! i love you girls!!!

5RU: Lehman-- Your "i can only imagine" was so inspirational, but I don't know really how i feel about competing with christian literature... just because i think it would be hard to do. I mean, we sing things like "i can only imagine" to worship. I think i'd struggle to Worship in competition... just because competition, placement, winning... those are things that we as humans want and need for ourselves selfishly... but the songs you sang while they have the best message that there is, are meant to glorify God, not us... I just feel a little odd about Personal accomplishment/gain through the act of worship... i also understand that being a catholic school i'm sure you had no choice and had you wanted to sing Secular music you wouldn't have been able to... So i dunno
CONGRATULATIONS on your performance... i just don't know how i feel about saying congratulations for singing to God.

If i had been Judging... which i'm nowhere near qualified or even near being near qualified to do, this is how my placements would have been

GC: Marysville (Vocals)
1RU: Franklin Central (high band score but ineligable for caption, second best vocal/3rd best choreo)
2 RU: Fairfield (Best bandw/2nd highest score. 3rd highest vocals, 2nd highest choreo)
3RU: Twinsburg (best Choreo but lowest score of the top 4 in Band and Vocals)
4RU: FC Girls
5RU: Lehman

I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else... but thats just kind of how it looked to me... Congratulations everyone and Twinsburg, thanks for making me realize how much of a threat you really are!!! though i'm kinda mad my predictions were so off...

i'm assuming if Marysville won the soloist awards they would've gone to Evan Zimmerman and Aashley Morgan, but there are a couple more choices with Best Female Soloist, so don't quote me on that.

as for placings, this comes from my mother who (bless her can't leave show choir behind just like me) heard this from another Marysville mom as they were watching finals, apparently the order following daytime was as follows...

1-Twinsburg
2-Fairfield
3-Marysville
4-Franklin Central
5&6-Lehman Catholic and Franklin Central women's (didn't say order here)

if these are the true daytime results it'll be very interesting to see how placements turn out at the end of the evening. possibly a result that no one predicted.
