it was a very sucessful compy! i loved hosting the Chanteurs, they were so much fun! love them! it was fun doing our rally dance for the last time, which i thought went very well considering we learned it a while back. the video turned out amazing, eventhough my only line in the whole thing was "Carpe diem, which means ... sieze the oh f*** me," but over all a great night im glad everyone had a good time!

This competition was a blast; thanks to Hart for providing such a great atmosphere! I was there for the better part of the day, and having the video screen made it nice to be able to take a moment from the theater and still get to watch all of the groups perform at the same time. I think that this event has become the most social competition of the year, and as it is the second-to-last festival for most groups, I apprecitate having that element emphasised. I know there are several directors who would prefer everyone stay in the auditorium the entire evening, but at this point in the season I feel it is really nice to be able to meet up with some of the great friends that we've made throughout the year and just have some fun. I saw so many people this weekend and there's no way I could list everyone, but you know who you are and it was great seeing every one of you. SoCal show choir is the best!

I'm not going to give a long critique of every group because I honestly thought everyone was fantastic last night, but I wanted to say that in particular, Chula you had your best show of the year and were extremely well deserving of your placement. I'm with Scott - some of the choirs have improved so much since the beginning of the year that it's almost like seeing completely different groups. Congrats on a fantastic way to end your season!! Los Al, Broken Wings blew my socks off and I can't believe how great it sounded for being a "late addition" into your set. The acapella breakdown part sealed the deal for you guys... I was in goosebumps. SoCal is going to be a lot of fun! Serrano, I think this was your best showing, too, and I think this song order finally showed off your set the most effectively. The monsters in the aisles was also a nice way to add something fresh and unexpected to a show we've seen all year, and I appreciate that kind of effort. I also have to say that your band is phenomenal... for just a four-piece combo, they match the sound of some of the biggest ensembles! Lastly, congrats to Burroughs on the high honors - you were amazingly sharp and clean last night, and your first place win was a long time coming.

I can't believe we're almost at the end... this year has been so much fun, and definitely one of my favorites. Everyone get some well-deserved rest, keep at it, and we'll see you in San Diego. It's going to be one heckuva show.

Hart Competition has been one of the funnest Competitions by far! The atmosphere was amazing, and maybe because of the fact that this was Chulas last competition made it that much more FUN!
Special Thanks: To the Hart Techies for helping us out as always, their amazing. As well as to this group of Brea girls who offered and helped us load our lights to the stage. Also thanks to Burroughs for supporting us that night, it was so comforting to see your faces in the front, it made me smile a lot. And some Burbank people especially Chuck for coming and showing his support, and the other guy (sorry i don't know your name) for helping us with our stuff. Much appreciated!

Carlsbad
- AMAZING! From last years Chicago song (i believe),i have always loved your soloist, she was amazing in Thoroughly Modern Milly, absolutly amazing! The choreography in that song was tight and very fun to watch!

Bonita- My co-worker is in Machine!! (HI!) haha You guys were great! For some reason your acapella was so amazing to me last night, like i fell in love with it! Me and a fellow Main Attraction-er were singing and dancing to our fvorite parts of your show. Congrats!

I missed Serrano, Brea, and Arcadia. Im sorry. But i m sure you all did great. I was sad i missed Arcadia because I wanted to see our Former host sing that one song i love so much!.

Burroughs- Again thank you for all of your support through it all. You guys did amazing last night! Right when the group before you ended, everyone rushed up front, i was unable to get up there cause they filled fast. But from where i was, it was amazing! It is about time that girl (Maria?) received Best Performer. Shes amazing, as are all of you!

Hart was fun! The video was hilarious and the dance ensemble performance was amazing, i got scared when they ran through the aisles. It was very enjoyable. Congrats on an awesome competition! See You all at SoCal!!!!

So, Hart was so fun. First of all, the video. So, I'm not gonna lie. At first I was like, wow steal our idea. But seriously, it was awesome. I didnt catch the guys name who made who came to talk to me about it, but I really appreciated that he did come to talk to me and it was so funny.

Secondly, Congratulations Burroughs on Showmanship. However, we did love our 15 minutes of fame thinking we won that. haha. it was nice for a second. but congrats.

Lastly, about Kevin Butler favoring judges. That's not true. He did come and work with us this week, but orginally he wasn't even supposed to come work with us till after Hart. It was just lucky we got him before. But like my friend Katie said, he gave us the lowest of the 3 judges! That's gotta count for something.

But thanks for a fun competition. See everyone at Chula.

I am so proud of all of those who responded in such a mature manner to the "questiionable judge" issue. I am so glad to see that Kevin Bulter is so well respected and utilized on this end of the world as I know he is in the midwest. I only hope I can be as dignified as all of you were.
Just a word to the wise, when you make comments such as the one about judges being in favor of certain choirs, people rarely take it seriously, it usually tends to just come off sounding like a case of sour grapes. I'm not implying that's what is WAS, just simply stating that it doesn't usually effect any kind of change. Competitions, like anything in life, don't always turn out the way we want, but it isn't always because someone is doing us wrong. Sometimes it's just the way "the cookie crumbles" as they say. After all, "certain choirs" did place pretty high nationally without the help of Kevin Butler. But I mean no disrespect and hope that if you are upset about placement, that you have better success at your next competition. (was that undignified? hope not, yikes)
Hart was a very fun competition. I enjoyed all the choirs and LOVED the video (especially the part about how Gail Hart had to "leave her job as a pyramid builder" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! So funny! And the Dance Ensemble-esque performance was AWESOME.
Hosting a choir competition is a HARD job. it is usually the longest day of any show choir's life. It's draining and grueling and y'all did a great job. Congratulations and good luck on the rest of your season.

hart was soooo fun.. i know all los al choirs had a blast!

About the whole judge thing, Kevin Butler is an amazing man. I know that los al stood up for him also.. he came to work with us this week... but in reviewing the scores, he gave us the lowest scores out of all the judges.. so he was not biased at all towards anyone...

the competition was so much fun.. i guess now los al has some competition for the caption award for "Best video at their competition"... right?

good luck to everyone going to new york...

see everyone at so cal

Carlsbad, it sounds like people really enjoyed your show yesterday! Mrs. Owen is sending me a dvd this week so that I can help you get ready for So Cal by doing a pretty comprehensive critique. Both of us are very proud of you guys, and know you can jump up another notch for So Cal in a few weeks. Also, to the Encore ladies, great job on your showmanship caption.

To Burbank, way to keep rollin'. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the guys show on dvd at the end of the year. God Bless, Damon Brown

Chantuers, Arcadia
5. Music Machine, Bonita Vista

Captain Awards:

Best Traffic Patterns - Chantuers, Arcadia
Best Director Stage Presence During an A Cappella - Tony Atienza, Chula Vista

It's spelled Chanteurs.

Secondly, Hart's auditorium is fairly large, I think a balcony would probably give more seating to all people who want to view. Those tickets were hard to obtain.

The competition was fun, and like Calvin, I was very impressed with Carlsbad's amazing rendition of "Thoroughly Modern Millie." Your soloist, name?, belongs on Broadway.

On another note, outside of the auditorium post-results, a few members of a certain group were acting like poor sports, and many other people recognized their actions as well. I may be an alumni, but their "acting" was uncalled for and immature.

Sorry I didn't get to meet David and Chris, it was so hard to find anyone during that whole competition!*and then you guys looked literally dead, so it was even harder!*

A side note so that everything is clear...

Kevin Butler, who Burroughs gave a standing ovation to, was always coming to Encore since it was decided sometime last year. He is a great man who has helped us earlier in the year, and is helping us again this week. We're not conspiring to make sure some groups win and others don't. This is simply a panel of judges that Mrs. Hart likes.

Congratulations to Hart for a very well run festival. It seems as though everything ran smoothly and all the kids had a great time. Everyone was on top of their game which made for a fun competition to watch. Plus, the fries are always a definite perk to making the three hour trek up to Newhall. ;)

Excellent atmosphere, choirs, judges, hosts, and venue. What more can you ask for?

Good luck to Hart and BV in NYC!

We'll see everyone at SoCal in about a month. Keep working hard!

Congratulations to Chula Vista on a well-deserved 3rd place trophy. "Shadowlands" may have been the single most entertaining number in the competition. Or wait, maybe it was Carlsbad's absolutely phenomenal Thoroughly Modern Millie finale - as good if not better than the National Tour, with a Millie that knocks your socks off. Then again, Burrough's ballad was just about as good as it gets; and Los Alamito's Broken Wings was just terrific.

Tscott, Make up your mind... " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Congrats to Burroughs! I can't wait to see how much you improved in April! Chula kids were so excited to see you right there in the front!

Special thanks to Burbank for helping us backstage and support in the warmup room. Chuck is the BEST.

This was Chula's last competition, and they were quite emotional before the event. Thanks Hart for the most FUN competition of the season.

ps. that director caption award was wierd... ;)

i have to say that there must have been some affiliations between the judges and competing choirs and their directors.

i mean, you KNOW something's up when a choir gives a standing ovation for the judge from indiana (but they didnt give a S.O. to any of the others.), and does well in the placements.

and about the judge change, i personally think that the judge change was made to make sure a certain style of shows would do well.

but at least the food was good.

Hard to believe these are the same choirs we first saw in January at Aztec Sing...

Finally, BIG kudos to Celebration - who may be the most improved choir of the year; not only growing in size, but singing better and better each competition.
