From what has been said, this year Carmel will be missing and they are definitely in the top 10.

Oh of course, i forgot about them... Well so many years we've gone without them in state, you kind of forget about them...

They're probably number 1 in the state...

There is only ONE choir from the top 10 in indiana that will not be at state... That choir is Center Grove...

who else is missing?

i find it really interesting that you think pikes choreography is "armography." really? im asking seriously, because i feel that pike dances quite a bit more than "armography." im not saying this because i am an alumni, but because i know jarads choreography, and it is anything but simply "armography."

i just watched the finals video from ben davis, and pikes choreography not only has arm movement like any other choir, but they also have footwork. the choirs that i would say have "armography" are groups that do their visuals by simply standing and moving their arms in the air. but hey, i guess thats just my opinion.

FC and Pike are both choreographed by jarad, and i bet franklin central would not say that his stuff is easy, OR "armography."

just thought i would comment on an interesting statement...

ALSO! lol, while pike is not competing anywhere else until state (assuming they do make state) they will also have the 2 weeks to clean their show like FC. I enjoyed FCs show and I expect them to come to state with an awesome set, much like at BD.

You know what would really help prove your point??? Posting the 2 shows on Youtube... I'd really like to see it again.

As i said in my last post, I DON'T KNOW what i'm missing about pike... The diagonals are straight, the blocking is good... But overall the choreo IS much more simplistic than FC's. It's pretty easy to tell who got Jarad's good stuff this year. On top of that FC had Damon Brown in the mix with their choreo as well and i really think the 2 choreographers help a lot.

Pike's vocal arrangements use a ton ton ton of unison and 2 part singing. The horn/combo arrangements are easy. What pike does, is perform the crap out of their show... I'm not saying they don't do it well, i just think there's a reason they do it so well.

keep in mind there are still a lot of choirs out there who deliberately do not go to ISSMA competitions. The scoring is horrible and why too subjective.

So you don't always get "the best" in the state at the ISSMA comp. because there are choirs that don't qualify because they never ever go to an ISSMA competition.

Just putting hat out there for everything to reflect about.....

I have to disagree about the small school. I think it will be very close as well. Dekalb and Plainfield may be out in front, but I know that Busco has already this year beaten Highland and Homestead, and was just a few points behind Dekalb. Busco, Norwell and a few others will defintely give the afore mentioned a run for their money.

I forgot Carmel wasn't performing

I believe in the neighborhood of 3.9 points after day show and 6.5 after finals.

So how far were you behind Dekalb in point wise?

I look for LC to do well. They are on a roll. It could easily be Pike, FC, NC, LC, and quite possibly HN. I will admit that I didn't like the split into the 2 divisions but I think the larger division will be very close and interesting to watch. As for the smaller division... it really is a fight for 2nd

who do you think has that easy first in the small division? i personally think that it will be close for the smaller schools as well...with anderson highland, plainfield, dekalb, and norwell...those are four schools that make finals almost everywhere they go and give alot of the large schools a run for their money.

Pike... I have to admit i didn't/don't have much faith in pike... I find the choreo to be simplistic and very much "Armography". I find the show design to be predictable, and the vocal arranging easy to perform. Yet, apparently i have missed something (though no one has been able to explain what) and they will undoubtedly do well at this competition. I hope that at ISSMA i will see what i've missed from Pike this year and become a believer

They may have some arm choreography. But don't all choirs at some point. I will personally say that I know two of the Encore members that helped choreograph "Shawty Get Loose", and I can reassure anyone that there isn't any "easy" choreo in that number.

and it is also interesting that in your top 3 predictions you have pike getting best choreo, yet you say it is only "armography.."

and wow... Carmel outsang EVERYONE last year... Absolutely everyone... There was not a choir in the country with better vocals last year, let alone in indiana.

yeah carmel has outsung everyone for a long time..both before and after their little hiatus from show choir. Their vocals are always beyond amazing. And im really excited to see FC's show...all the talk about it has me really excited. also with the changes to NC's show, im curious to see what judges will think now. maybe this new order plus more rehearsal time will put CP back where they usually are...im not quite ready to count them out of the top quite yet

thats great good job thnx for correctin me i ddnt kno places so yea an cs got 3d in 2005 as well but it doesn really matter tho ive explained the mishap from 06 so yeah. i love warrens vocals so no dis to them in anyway. an we did place 7th an 8th thats a place its not top 6 but still good considerin the amount of great choirs in indian. state contest is great only wen many good groups go so 2008 was the best one of the that have happened. i kinda feel that its a little pointless t have it wen some of the best choirs are not going eg cg, hn, caramel etc. i never wanted to go back after 2006 wen there was a mishap that was the fault of the workers but it wasn't corrected until later in the competition. anyway warren has steadily improved evert year and has awesome vocals jus dry choreo. they deserved their place last yr an should have probably won vocals cause i honestly think they out sang NC, HN, and Carmel. but judges actually had CS in 4th vocally behind carmel, hn, ad nc. we had bad visual scores that gave us the 8th place.

ISSMA will be very interesting this yr and the entire season will be controversial. i woud love to see a contest with nc, hn, cg, john burrouhs (cali), burbank (cali) wabonsie valley (illionois) central sound, tayes valley, attache', wc, pike, plainfield and many great choirs to really see not only indiana groups but national ones. that would be an awesome contest and would be really close sp this yr

north central, cg, pike, wc all are great choirs with great attitudes and good luck to all!!!!!! (man i miss competin)

WOW! This got kind of out of hand didn't it! lol

Facts are facts Mr.HJA. While LC is a very strong choral program, they are by no means dominant in this state. They hold their own very well and consistently place highly in competitions. What everyone is debating, is the difficulty of the competitions. LC has won out over 2 groups in indiana that i would place in the top 4 in indiana.

Franklin Central (MIC 2006, very close, HN would have won and was far ahead in prelims but had a down show in finals)

and

Center Grove (Who, i've heard from people i trust, seem to be having a bit of a down year as far as show design is concerned but still fairly strong choreographically and vocally.)

Other than that, it's been a good few years since LC has brought both great vocals AND clean choreography to the table. It's been even longer since they brought those 2 elements AND show design as well.

Unfortunately it seems as though warren's show doesn't have the technical aspects to come close to the other choirs in their division when it comes to choreo, so i think they might finish lower than expected.

I expect pike to come out with a clean, well rehearsed, and energetic show, But i still expect that the 2 weeks of uninterrupted practice the FC Singers have had the past 2 weeks, and the upcoming FAME Orlando competition is going to have them at the PEAK of their existence. Their show this year is definitely the best they've had and they've got a super strong group of kids to make it work.

I'm going to say the top three will be

GC: Franklin Central: Vocals
1RU: Huntington North
2RU: Pike: Choreo

FC has the vocal repetoire to pull out a Vocal win in this... They're not an extremely powerful choir this year, but they have the sound and finesse to win it.

HN though down in past competitions, i've been told is becoming very strong as of their latest practices and will most likely show very very well at ISSMA. I've always said that HN is probably the most inconsistent powerhouse out there, but EVERY single year they have one show that is absolutely unbeatable, and they are well due for it this season.
