Just a question, why did Waterloo West(which is bigger than Xavier who was inthe 4A class) get an award in the small school division instead of Seward who didn't even get a participation award? Can anybody shed some light on this for me. Thanks
GREAT JOB EVERYBODY!!
I totally hated missing this but hey, Sickness comes first.
Ugh, Well I didn't get to see people but by what i've heard.
Everyone deserved what they got. :D
this was such a fabulous day! congratulations to xavier, you guys truly deserved grand champs! your show was fantastic. and i can't tell you how much i LOVE your ballad, it's SO good. and your soloists are amazing. also congrats to regis, very good stuff for a middle school group! and to jeff ovation. you guys are awesome. and i know everyone is saying this, but you definitely do not perform like you're a prep group!
-Your guys school layout is actually pretty easy. I like easy
-There were quite a few rude and obnoxious people from some school. I don't know where they were from, but they were laughing and just being plain disruptive during WSD's finals performance. When I talk during a performance (which I do often) I make sure to actually pay attention to the performers, and talk quietly.
-The food was delicious.
Xuberance- Congrats on making finals for the first time! It was a pleasure to sit with Xhilaration to watch you guys.
Manteno- I think that the show needs to be designed better. I think it kind of dragged in the beginning, then got more energized towards the end. The choreo was clean, vocals were decent, although I thought the guys were kind of weak towards the end. Overall a good performance.
Ovation- You guys are so good for a prep group. The vocals improved a lot since Benton, the moves were hit sharper, just overall better. Don't be afraid to sing out though, there's still more projecting that I think can be done. I also got kind of a headache from how many cymbal crashes are in your guys closer. Very nice job, and it's going to be a good one next week between you guys and La Voce Ballo.
WSD- I saw two different West Side's at Kennedy. I saw the one that hit their moves hard during the day, yet didn't sing quite so good. At night I saw the one that sang beautifully, yet were kind of sloppy. I saw during your guys' 2nd number, there were two boys in the front who seemed to be about 2 beats ahead of everyone else. I also don't like the stars, I don't find the purpose in those going in there for about a minute and a half. If they're going to be in there, I think that it'd be better to have them in right at the beginning. The girls costumes are fantastic. I think it'll be interesting to see what you guys bring to the table next week at Totino.
Xavier- Very nice job. The vocals were great once again, and I could tell that you guys cleaned the choreography a little bit more. I now think that the whole show is great.....except for that 2nd song. I just have the feeling that I'm never going to like that number. Also there seems to be a problem with getting guys their pillows at the beginning. The ballad was phenomenal again, and so was Allyson, who I wasn't able to work up the courage to talk to. I love the 4th song, no complaints here. The closer was effective for the second straight time I saw you guys. I also saw the part where Cris Crisler threw in one of his moves. I had you guys in first during the day, and I wasn't surprised at all when I heard that you guys swept finals.
However........
Johnston- You guys were one of the main reasons that I came to this competition, and you didn't disappoint. During the day I thought that the show started off a little slow, and that the vocals weren't quite on par with Xavier's. The show went on and the whole show just got better and better until the end had me very excited. I thought that you guys were were the best choreographically. In finals the show got started much better, and I thought that it just built on that again. Your guys' ballad soloist is very good. I didn't quite get the point of the whole bathrobe singers thing, but whatever. I thought that you guys would win, but Xavier just outperformed everybody according to the judges. You guys did great.
Kennedy- Another phenomenal show out of you guys. Even when you guys aren't competing, you still provide the same intensity on the stage. I didn't think that the choreography could get any cleaner than what I saw at Great River. I was wrong. "Can You Feel It?" is now one of my favorite openers of the year. In one week the ballad has been almost fixed. The intonation problems almost completely went away, but not quite yet. There's also some timing issues during the beginning section, because I heard about 40 different cut-offs at one point. Once the band comes in though, boy does that song become wonderful. I am in love with the fourth song. So intense, I like the quintet at the beginning, the vocals and choreography are all consistent throughout; just fantastic. The closer has even more energy, but there's still some Tenors that are sticking out at some points. You guys proved once again however, that you are the best in Cedar Rapids, and quite possibly the best in Iowa.

It always amazes me how many show choirs there are in the Cedar Rapids area..... It's great though that you guys get to not have to travel too far, and have the support of lots of parents and friends there!
Good luck to everyone today, wish I could have been there! (Go JACOB! )
This totally totally hella sucks. Today, I went to the doctors and they diagnosed
me with Influenza A. D: So now I have to miss Kennedy! THIS STINKS> ;~;
