There has not been an a cappella rule at most Southern California competitions for some time now. It is now simply regarded as a tradition by most.
This. I know the major show choir competitions don't have an a'cappella rule, so that choirs from other states can compete if they like without having to have an a'cappella. Diamond Bar Show Choir Spectacular though I know is one competition that still enforces the a'cappella rule I believe.
I was just curious how they worked out the acapella rule? Did CLinton have to do an acapella? Was the acapella rule lifted in this competition?
There are some other schools I don'r recognize in this competition (Notre Dame Prepatory, The King's Academy, LaCueva High School, Page High School, and Ironwood Ridge High), it is great to see so many new high schools with show choirs especially considering the budget crisis, I was just wondering if they are all from Southern California or are they from other areas?
Also guys prior to posting any school's show choir set from any competition, get permission from the director. There are some directors who do not want their sets out there on youtube for good reason, so please get permission first.
Haha, yeah, there's no way. I'm guessing their setup includes not only the panelings and whatnot, but also a ton of wiring too
Haha yeah, so it's a reasonable amount of time.
I don't support posting the performances on YouTube as you should be buying the video.
I'm waiting to go watch live! I have yet to watch ANY performance from this year even my own school's because I want to watch it all live haha.
Just something to add to the result postings, the AA best performer came from Sound Express... Janie Escalle (:
Thanks, I've added it. If anyone knows the results from Tier III Mixed and Womens I would be more than happy to add those, too.
Changed my thing, I just realized the person included that it was set up in their description, but yeah if you think you can set up sets like Burbank's and do about a 20 minute set in 25 minutes, haha well good luck!

As does the allotted 25 minutes in the Midwest. 35 minutes is A LOT if time for those of us used to 10 minutes less lol

You guys get 35 minutes in California? In Ohio we normally only get 25! And on another note, I reeeeeeeeally wish I could have been at this competition. I'm sure it was amazing to watch. Anytime Clinton and JB or Burbank compete against each other, you know it's gonna be crazy. Congrats to Clinton on the win.
Well, a lot of the advanced choirs have very intricate backdrops and stuff, which would be hard to accomplish with about 17 minutes to around 20 minutes of a show. In 2010, like Hart Sound Vibrations' set was just completely confusing and they also had a backdrop, but yeah with backdrops like Burbank, Burroughs, and Los Alamitos have, 25 minutes would definitely give them a time penalty... I'm not sure if it's 35 minutes for all competitions, at some competitions it seems like set up lasts like 30 minutes, actually I don't even know what the time limits are... Only know about the set's time limit.
These time limits should have a grace period. maybe 5 minutes after the 35th minute just in case there were complications with the set up. i hate the fact that time penalties affect placements. sometimes there could be a 0.5 difference between 1st and 2nd and time shouldnt be a factor to placements because it ruins the hard work kids, from any of the choirs, put in.

Oh my goodness, this seems like a mess to wake up to for me.....I'm just going to say that I would have killed to see all of these competing groups (and Los Al of course!). But, I'm just going to have to guess that everyone still had a great time not caring about the results? Because that's all that matters!
I hope everyone had one heck of a time and won't forget about how great it was!
Burbank and Carlsbad, very proud of you all! Heard over and over again how incredibly tight and unbelievable the level of competition was last night, and all of you in ALL divisions make me feel so honored to be a small part of what you do. God Bless, Damon
I happened to spot Dave M. (Los Al's director) as I was leaving, talking with the directors of BV and Carlsbad. Seems there was an adding error in the scoring and BV beat Carlsbad in music. This is UNofficial news, since I'm not sure of the details, but that would explain the confusion.
Congrats to all of the groups. It was a great night!
Dang, should have doubled or tripled checked the scoring just to be safe. D:
