I hate to be predictable here, but I'm also going to add in that I thought Spain Park should have been in finals. The vocal's were as good as ever, but I think y'all need clearer diction toward the end of the show. I had trouble understanding what y'all were saying. I'm glad y'all kept up the vocals and have started closing the gap in choreography with most of the other A groups. Overall, it was the best Spain Park show so far.
I didn't actually see anyone in finals except for Mt. Zion (and Joy and Mercy's duet, which by the way was pretty much life changing); however, based on what people said and watching the TV's outside, I would have had Albertville higher.
Pascagoula- thanks! I'm pretty sure everyone talked about that for about 3 hours after we left warm up. Y'all are awesome, and I'm ready to see y'all at Homewood.
Opelika- Y'all have gone through so many changes in the past few years, but I think that this one is my favorite. I loved the opener and the closer, and Mallory was amazing. I liked the costumes. Good Luck at Homewood!
Ok so here is my view on Opelika for yesterday: Spain Park got cheated out of the finals... They were better than most groups in the finals, and definately should have got higher than 3rd in their division... But moving on the the finalist groups:
Homewood: Amazing... Received a well deserving 1st runner up
Pascagoula: I thought they did better in the prelims, but still very impressive in the finals... 2nd runner up
Albertville: Different kind of show than the other finalists, but still very good... 4th runner up
Mt. Zion: WOW... The closer was incredible... Vocals were terrific... If given a chance to compete against Clinton, I really think Mt. Zion would win out of the two
West Jones: Really entertaining show.. A little more enthusiasm from the group, they probably get 2nd runner up... Probably the best dance breaks in the finals aside from Mt. Zion's dance break with the lights in "Push It to the Limit"...
Overall, this was a very good competition... Now, I must think of why we aren't going to Homewood... What a competition it will be...
I got to see all choirs during prelims and didn't stick around for Finals because of a prior comittment, but it was a great competition. Here's how I had it after prelims:
A:
GC: Spain Park (best vocals)
1RU: Pascagoula
2RU: West Jones (best choreo)
(I was really shocked when SP received 2RU... perhaps they got hit with having to go first?)
AA:
GC: Mt. Zion (best vocals/choreo)
1RU: Homewood
2RU: Albertville
If I would have given Top 5 honors in order for a Finals type placement (granted it would be based on prelims) it would have gone:
GC: Mt. Zion
1RU: Homewood
2RU: Spain Park
3RU: Pascagoula
4RU: Albertville
Congrats to ALL groups that competed and placed. I hope to see everyone again next week at SCC.
GC: Mt. Zion "Swingsations" (all captions)
1RU: Homewood "The Network"
2RU: Pascagula "Impact"
3RU: West Jones "Imagination"
4RU: Albertville "Centerstage!"
Women's Division:
Overall Effect - West Jones
Choreo - West Jones
Vocals - Tallassee Divas
2nd Runner Up - Vestavia
1st Runner-Up - Tallassee Divas
GC - West Jones
A*vegas has actually already competed against Mt. Zion this year and finished right behind them at Danville. That could give them a slight advantage over other show choirs who aren't sure what they are up against.
Also, there are some unknowns like Eufaula, who finished 2nd at Auburn... it's tought to know what that means. And there are some choirs that we haven't seen yet, such as Auburn HS.
I'm still mad that annual participants Enterprise and Pell City won't be attending... and, that's the last time that I'll say it.
Ok, this is totally based off of prior knowledge and what I have seen so far this year.
GC-Mt. Zion
1st-Pascagoula
2nd-Homewood
3rd-Albertville
4th-Toss-Up between Spain Park and West Jones
I think that Pascagoula wants to prove that they are good so they will be super determined.
Homewood has been cheated this year already at South so they want revenge.
Albertville has a great show and a lot of talent but Pascagoula and Homewood's vocal difficulty is going to overcome them.
I love both Spain Park and West. I know last year Spain Park was great, but West Jones is on a whole new level this year and they are up there with the best of the best now.
Good Luck to all the groups there and I wish you all the best. I hate that I will miss it, but I will be checking out Petal this weekend.
Whoever posts the results should probably have the final scoresheets and the official rule book with them before posting. We wouldn't want anything that's less than perfect posted on these forums.
Okay, I'm through being bitter about that other topic now!
