I strongly suspect that the scores from Judge #5, Rich Taylor, were switched between Batavia and Waubonsie. People should not villainize the man when it may have been someone else's mistake.

If that were the case, Waubonsie would have made finals. If you mean when adding up points, their director most likely checked scores to make sure everything was added correctly.

Does anyone know for sure if all judges used the same scoresheet or if it was split into choreo, vocals, and overall effectiveness

No they would not have made finals. If my suspicion is correct the score sheets were mislabled or misattributed, costing Waubonsie 18.5 points and 5th place in prelims.

All judges used the same score sheet.

@LEVIMangu To quote Alex: The scoresheet was 70/50/30 with Vocals, Choreo and Overall Show/Band respectively as categories. You are correct, however, with the fact that the judge was not Judging one category specifically. Every judge has the same sheet

I don’t think it is a possibility that the scores were switched. Waubonsie was the last group to perform before awards, therefore being the last scores entered. Batavia’s scores had been locked in for hours at this point.

Regardless of the craziness that happened at this comp last night, I just have to say that the talent showcased here was absolutely insane. After rewatching the livestream, I can’t name a single group who shouldn’t be proud of their performance and I’d feel confident saying there were AT LEAST 10 future broadway stars in that building last night. A huge congratulations to not only the finalists, but every single group that competed here! You all left me awestruck!

From watching the live stream, I can say that I ultimately agreed with the judges’ final decisions! It always sucks to see amazing groups not get the result they wanted, but fortunately competitions like this are absolute treats for us spectators!!!

Glenwood— you’ve got my favorite show this year and that’s all I can really say without going on a tangent.
Loveland— way to represent the 513!!! Your energy is so high and I genuinely vibe off of watching you guys.
Wheaton North— ONE OF MY FAVORITE CONCEPTS EVER. And you guys perform it so effortlessly and beautifully.
Mt Zion— Um, WOW that finals performance. You guys dance like it’s nobody’s business. And honestly, I was really pleasantly surprised with your vocals as well. Totally exceeded my expectations!
Twinsburg— Love you GE. There’s no other group like y’all. I could watch your shows for days and be entertained. Super awesome to see you guys put on an amazing show tonight!
Waconia— Loved seeing you guys in finals tonight! Your tone sounded absolutely amazing on the live stream. Also, might I add, your band is FIRE
Waubonsie and Broken Arrow— I hope you guys come back and prove some people wrong next year.

Overall, what an amazing night for show choir!!!

I would surely not return. Esp if I was Directing WV. Unless there’s a plsn to rectify issues like this with scoring.

I would have put Waubonsie in over Waconia but I agreed with the rest! Congrats to all!

I'm not going to dismiss the idea that there could have been, but the emcee said it best. There were 11 groups. 8 of them placed GC at other comps. 4 of the 8 have only placed 1st or 2nd. And they only had 6 spots. I personally would have had broken arrow in finals but who am I? (a kid from Mississippi) There so many amazing groups and i'm sure the point values were hairs away from each other.

Waubonsie put on an incredible show and it was very unfortunate that they didn't get to perform again in finals

Based on the live feed, here are my personal rankings:
GC: Wheaton North (Vocals, Overall Effect)
1RU: Glenwood (Visuals)
2RU: Waconia
3RU: Twinsburg
4RU: Loveland
5RU: Mt. Zion

I saw some phenomenal performances tonight. The first half of Waconia’s show gives me life. Wheaton North’s is magical. And I LOVE Twinsburg’s out of-the-box shows every year (and this one left me craving omelettes).

Maybe I'm just too old, but I think it's very very sad that great, complicated, pure vocals, in a Show CHOIR competition rank below nice costumes and easily sung melodies.

I love being able to watch the setup/takedown. Mt. Zion’s stage setup looks intense, and its assembling has been fascinating to watch.
