anyone care to share what Marysville is doing this year?
Opener: Fly like an eagle/there is no alternative
Balad: You walk with me/No one is alone
3rd Number: Teach me how to shimmy
Closer: jerk it out/ain't nothing wrong with that/pump it
to fill in some holes:
Fairfield's fourth number - "Born to be my Baby"
Teays Valley's opener - "Two Worlds, One Family/Strangers Like Me"
Teays Valley's guys' number - "Venus"
Olentangy's women's number - "Candyman"
i was slightly worried after daytime results, but in the end i was very impressed by the judging at the "Showcase." final placements turned out exactly as i saw them.
Fairfield was absolutely incredible in finals. after daytime i knew they were the best group in attendance from a technical standpoint, but their first performance left me a bit cold from a facial standpoint. in finals every performer worked to connect with the audience and the energy level doubled. truly no other choir could have been named Grand Champion.
Twinsburg was also very technically proficient. vocally they were the loudest group at Marysville, but i thought their tone suffered from getting a bit too loud and shouty in finals. also, though they were wonderfully clean for January, this was probably one of my least favorite Twinsburg shows. i didn't feel drawn in by the second half, and the last two numbers seemed too long.
Piqua has been one of my favorites for the past couple years and this year proves no exception. once again, they set the mark for costuming in Ohio (it was criminal for another choir to win Best Costumes). and though i agree they shouldn't have been placed higher than Second Runner-Up, their show was undoubtedly the most interesting of the evening.
Olentangy came on strong and was rewarded in daytime results. and though i don't think they should have been placed first, they have continued to improve dramatically beyond efforts of previous seasons. vocally they were one of the top groups in attendance, nowhere more evident than in the beautifully-sung ballad. i do think Olentangy would have placed higher if their show design was more original. some of the choreography came off as textbook Andy Haines, and though performed charmingly, was predictable.
Teays Valley would receive my praise as most improved if Fairfield hadn't perfomed so well in finals. their daytime show wasn't bad, but cleanliness issues abounded in the second half of the set and i wasn't sure if they would squeak sixth place. i'm very glad they did. the show was much cleaner and performed much more confidently in the evening. i'm still not sure if i'm a fan of the cages in "Renegade," but in finals no one appeared to be lost or confused by the set construction in the closer. that alone made a huge difference and allowed Teays to exit the stage leaving a much better impression.
Garfield Heights was impressively clean. i'm not a big fan of Antwon Chavis choreography or novelty numbers, so their set wasn't to my taste, but i easily recognized that Garfield had earned their spot in finals. every group improved from daytime, so unfortunately some choirs dropped in placement, but no group gave a disappointing performance. Garfield sang and danced solidly, and i'm confident that they will have at least as good of a season as their last.

Equalizer Brett?!?! durr... lol jk You going to Garfield?
no way, after the crazy weather last year and the 6 hr. trip that turned into a 10 hr one and the almost dying 10-11 times, i don't think i shall return to the heights, although i love the competition ... i still have nightmares about that fateful wintery day
btw,(thank you Keith for telling me) Garfield was apparently up by 12 over Piqua and 20 over Teays going into finals. then the bottom dropped out. o well, so goes life in show choir. everything is unpredictable!!
we were 10 over Teays and 10 under twinsburg going into finals but dropped two spots like olentangy and lost to Teays by 1pt. but hey at least we made finals wich a lot of people thought we never would! oh and in finals our scores had gone up
So i was at the competition and i def thought it would not turn out the way it did!! I expected a lot more from fairfield...maybe its bc it was the first weekend in January...but compared to the last two years i was way disappointed! Im not saying they were bad...I just thought they were going to be way better the way they get talked about!! I would have put it:
So I know that Fairfield did "It's My Turn Now" for their closer - but it was medleyed with another song - can anyone tell me what the other song is? It's been driving me crazy!
