Well, I just got home... I thought that this was an amazing competition! I did not get a chance to see Pleasant Hill, but I can imagine that ya'll were simply amazing! Once I get my finals DVD, I will probably watch everyone over and over and over... I hope that everyone had a safe trip home!

P.S. : Special Shoutout to my friends from Minnesota!

I am so excited about Branson!!! This will be my 3rd time to travel with "CenterStage!" to Branson! We went to FAME Branson in 2003 and the Show Choir Cup in 2004. Here we are in 2008 returning to Branson! If you've never been before, you are in for such a good time! Good luck to everyone!

Nobody that is in Music Warehouse or Sophisticated Ladies or New Edition is in Edgewood Singers though. I understand completely, but Singers is another completely different set of 20 singers.

It really is a blessing that we have three choirs. Back when Edgewood was known Nationally (80's & 90's), we were turning away so many people that wanted to pursuit music but we could only keep the best 50+ people. I cannot explain what a surprise it is that we still have over 50 kids in each choir with only 5-6 of them overlapping into each choir. Those are the competing show choirs, we still have another 20 person group that is known as Edgewood Singers, they do choral sound and is meant for fine tuning their vocals. At times I wish we had 1 choir though because that means Verda (director) could spend 100% of her time with Music Warehouse instead of 40% with Warehouse and 30% each with New Edition and Sophisticated Ladies. That doesn't include the small time she gets with Singers. I think our program would be stronger at times if we had one solid, well rounded choir but then that means turning away so many kids and our community just isn't like that.

You must take into considertation the sole educational part of singing is not through show chor, but through the concert literature that Edgewood Singers or other concert groups students are in. If Mrs. Slinkard only had Music Warehouse, the students would suffer, in my opinion. There needs to be a balance. Concert choir teaches you techniques and skills that show choir can't.
Nonetheless, I do agree that Mrs. Slinkard does a GREAT job with Edgewood and I feel bad for the person who has to fill her shoes when she retires.

Have you guys ever thought of hiring another director so that the entire vocal music program isn't on the shoulders of one person?

now that is surprising but you guys are so lucky... i've never seen any of your guys' show but i can assume that you guys must be good... and so lucky to actually have three show choirs in such a small school... my school has 2000+ students and we can't even get 50+ people in our show choir...

One thing I have to say is that when Edgewood was competing at Troy, we were almost 10 people short because of basketball and other commitments. Nevada had competed before Troy while it was Edgewood's first time out. Edgewood's show, like many, has made DRASTIC changes and improvements. I have been an alum for 3 years now and I watch almost every show from the crowd and I will not be surprised with a Grand Champion nor would I be surprised with a 4th Runner Up. I find it awkward that people find it surprising that Edgewood, a school of 850, has three working and competing show choirs. I guess it is just common for me, but New Edition, Sophisticated Ladies, and Music Warehouse have all be competing and winning since I was young.

now that is surprising but you guys are so lucky... i've never seen any of your guys' show but i can assume that you guys must be good... and so lucky to actually have three show choirs in such a small school... my school has 2000+ students and we can't even get 50+ people in our show choir...

By the time you factor in Stage Crew, Pit, and our formal choral group, Edgewood Singers. We have about 1/4 of our school in show choir. It is a huge number that always brings in a lot of people, especially for our Christmas Show "Tis the Season" and our Spring Concert. Tis the Season brings in about 2,000 people for each of the two nightly performances.
