You might want to stop posting about your own choir, Johnston is good, the varsity has a good chance of beating Hastings, but your prep group?
NO chance.
Alright how about the downlow on half of these choirs. The only ones i've ever heard of are Johnston and Hastings. So are any of these other choirs forces to be reckoned with? Do they usually place well at competitions?
I've heard of Omaha South, but I don't know anything about them. Des Moines Lincoln was extremely good for quite a while, but around 2000 or 2001 the program dropped off pretty sharply and hasn't ever recovered from that. They've done better in the last year or two, but it's still very much a rebuilding choir when compared to some other schools in the Des Moines area.
I would venture to say that 3A will be a battle between Jefferson-Scranton and Spirit Lake. Both typically do pretty well within their class, and Spirit Lake occasionally makes finals. I haven't seen either group this year, unfortunately.
As for 2A/1A, I'm clueless. The only groups I've heard about are Okoboji and Sioux Center, and I don't know squat about either. Do preps compete with 1A/2A for a finals slot, or do they compete for a 3A/4A slot? If the former is true, I can certainly see Johnston's prep taking that, or perhaps even Hastings' girls group.

agreed...sorry synergy, you know i still love you! i'm really excited to be going to this competition...i've never been to emmetsburg. also, i havent been to a comp. since urbandale b/c j-town didnt go to kennedy this past weekend (stupid weather). i'm also really excited to see some show choirs i've never seen before!

Thanks for clearing that up. I saw that there were only 5 4A groups competing and I was like, "Ok so finals is decided already I guess." Ok well thanks!
