I graduated from Northeast Jones yes. But as I'm sure you can see, I am an alumni. I am currently student teaching with one of the show choirs that is attending this competition. So I'm pretty sure that my knowledge of the event has nothing to do with my past show choir association. But thanks for you concern.
That's pretty cool. Where do you go to college?
Homewood's preliminary performance is at 8:20, and that's if Southern Showcase doesn't get behind like it normally does. It was off by like an hour or two in 2014, so just imagine how late finals would start if that happened again. Now, considering that the person who announced it is from Northeast Jones, who isn't coming here, these rumors may not even be accurate.

Emails were sent out yesterday to all directors who will be attending the competition. So many schools were having to travel home following the competitions that they decided it would be best for the competition to eliminate the finals competition. They will announce 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for each division. Then will announce the Top 5 overall scores of the day.
Before 2007, there were no finals at the Southern Showcase. We enjoyed the "one shot deal". I still remember how exciting it felt to leave the stage after that one show feeling like we just made history. Regardless of where we placed, that one performance was the best we had to offer and that was an incredible feeling. I hope everyone who performs at Opelika this year will experience this same exciting feeling.
I would imagine finals is cancelled due to the competition being scheduled to run so late. 8:20 for a final prelims performance is very late, even with no time delays.
Although, I would hold off saying that it is until it can be confirmed by a director or student involved in the competition.

I don't understand why there will not be a finals competition? Every other competition has one so why are we not having one here?

I could agree with all of these, but I could also see Bradley Central knocking Enterprise out of Finals for a couple of reasons.
1). Bradley Central has a history of doing poorly at their first comp and doing far better in their following comps. Look at Tallassee last year, where Bradley didn't even make finals, and then they go to Albertville the very next weekend and take 2RU, and after THAT they go on to Belmont and take GC, despite many people thinking that Wheaton North would win. Of course, Lakeside could be counted against Bradley because Tift Co. did end up taking overall GC, but even there, Bradley Central beat out Opelika, who had made 3RU at Tallassee.
This is an excellent point! I have seen from Bradley Central, and I would not be surprised one bit if they made it into finals! Like I said in my other post, it's hard to predict the placements and stick to it because anything could happen!

2). Being a former member, I know what placements do to this group. This group will work their butts off to prove themselves and get into finals. We hate losing, just like any other group, and our director uses that all throughout the week leading up to our next competition to get us to where we need to be to do well.
In the end, it could go either way, but I felt I had to at least give a defense for my alma mater.
This competition is quickly heating up to be an interesting one! My predictions keep changing week after week, but it's getting hard to stick to one thing. As of now I'm going with:
