Hey everyone, I just wanted to tell everyone that as an Executive Session member, it was a little disappointed to see some of those posts on this site. This sit is a great resource for helpful comments and support to other groups. And hey, if you like a group say it. But insulting other groups is not productive. And in general, its not nice. I wouldnt dare post a negative comment on here about another group. For those people who say that we should take the comments silently, thats not really fair is it? I spend hours on end each week at practices and every weekend. I put all my energy into it. And I love it, just like everyone loves their choirs. And if someone were to say something about your choir, would you just read it and not reply? I mean, insults dont have to be returned, but somethings do have to be said. And some where I read that some suggested we leave the competition circuit and just perform exhibition. Now that really isnt fair. We have good vocals and good dancers and we work just as hard. And we get good enough scores. Just because some people dont like the show doesnt mean we cant show it. And for those people who say 'everyone' is too far but most is not, thats not true either. Most people do not disapprove of our show. A lot of people who posted do, but that means absolutely nothing. So can we please all just except each others show choirs, whether they fit your description of show choir or not. Just lets stop fighting.

if you'll read what i posted previously (in bold a few pages back) never did i say "don't respond" i specifically stated that getting defensive and cocky with rebuttles does no good. by all means, defend your group, and your hard work, etc, but just don't do it in a manner that belittles you as well (aka rude or "we're here to stay, get over it, we beat you blah blah blah"). it's just for your own sake, really. i know i think less of people (and, sadly, as a result, they're associated groups) that post things like that, and so do some people i've talked to. i'm sure that's not what anyone wants to have happen.

In light of all the controversy surrounding the results of Milton, it's interesting to note that at one time, Sauk, Fort, Hastings, and Eau Claire Memorial all were scheduled to compete the following week at Monona Grove. It is unfortunate that Fort and Eau Claire had to drop out because of various conflicts. I would have liked to see how that would have turned out with a fresh set of eyes and ears, and another week of practice.

There's still Hastings and Sauk

I was soo sad that I missed West's show! But I heard they did good! And I wish we all could have shared in the Finals! But at least their soloist kicked major boot-ay! Yah, finals were crazy. There were at least 5 groups I saw there that I thought would definetly beat us! But thanks to all who wished us better!! Much LOVE!!!!!!!

I try to keep the peace as well! I apologize again, thanks diva4life17 for your PMs. From one diva to another, I respect you and your group very much from this minor incident.

MrGQ! Glad to see you back! Congrats to Protege at LinnMar. I took some pictures of WSD in finals on a snap camera that have yet to be developed.

Sorry, but sometimes negative feedback is good, and it's called constructive criticism. (granted, sometimes it gets a little mean " border="0" alt="ermm.gif" /> ) But if all we did was be all lovey dovey and cute with each other (#1) there would be little honesty (#2) this would not be an opinion forum. These posts are people's opinions, so if people are getting defensive, then they probably think the person may be a little right, and therefore are trying to fight their way out of it. And definitely...READ PREVIOUS POSTS just like you should think before you speak.

I also wish we would get another chance at them Big Al! Peace ;)

Some of us have stopped fighting. Others have not. I just dont like it when people fight about show choir. It's silly. And not all of that posting is old, some of what I posted about was recent stuff that was posted between yesterday and today.

LOL. Sauk, you guys are funny.
We already stopped fighting like 10 times...
just because new people keep joining and looking only at the original bad stuff (which mostly was just show choir criticism, all of which was apologized for) doesn't mean we still are...

HELLO!

read some of the recent posts...
read the positive posts...
most of all, read the posts knowing you're just reading posts, not the collective mentality of the show choir world!
Sauk and Old Abe - we love you

can we get back to our discussions now?

Hey, not for nothing, but Sauk Prairie doesn't start practicing until November. This year I believe it was nov. 9th. Just to clear that up.

I know I have personally been pretty sour about the Milton results, but I really have been beginning to see that even if no judges like our show this year, and we never make finals, it is just getting to perform that rocks the house down. Everyone has moments in their show that they love more than anything, and a few judges cannot take that feeling away. I am glad that many of the positive posts on this topic have helped me realize that...THANK YOU TO ALL!

As was mentioned by Dusty Baggs earlier: The results of a competition, both prelims and finals is the opinion of 5 people on a given day. Maybe one of the judges stubbed his or her toe just before writing down the score for a certaiin group and that put that judge in a mood where they really just didn't feel like giving a high score, or any thing else like that can happen. Judges have bad days too just like normal people and--even though every precaution to prevent it is taken--judges aren't always perfectly fair or perfectly "mutual" on their voting. Thus, the results of a competition really dont mean a whole lot. As i said earlier, every group there did a wonderful job, all the shows i saw were very entertaining and each had they're own special points. As far as Sauk goes, I think that out of the ordinary shows are interesting to watch, sometimes moreso than the norm. I dont like it when choirs do popular/well known songs, i think that it's both an easy way out of learning new music, a snatch at straws to earn points with the judges doing as ong they know or like, and its just not as interesting because the songs lose their true meaning which is one of the main aspects of a show... the true meaning. really listen to the lyrics next time you watch a show and understand what its all about. Take Mr. Celophane for example, what a great song! It was entertaining and enjoyable, but who hasn't ever felt like they just aren't being noticed or jsut dont belong? Thats what the song is all about! Almos every show has points like this in it and thats what makes them so great. Before you say anything negative about anyones show first of all decide wether or not its even appropriate, and then decide wether or not its something that the people have control over. If you're going to share your opinion, do so, but please do so in a respectful and productive way...

This comment can be heeded or completely ignored... its just my opinion

It is about time you made your way to SCC Steve...

We will be at state... although we need to cut a song for time limits there.

Hey!

Just thought I'd get my first real post under my belt.
Congrats to everyone that was at Milton. Great Job to GCS for the GC, sure wish it had been us up there though ;)

Honestly, none of us ever saw our selves getting 1st in the day, especially with GCS and Jefferson there. In fact there were many of us who doubted our spot in finals for awhile there.

Good luck to West at UNL- I can't wait to see your show- hopefully you are going to state?

Good luck to all show choirs out there, I can't wait to see more of the Iowa Groups!

Hey everyone,

i'm from milton, and i know our finalist surprised everyone, but we had a great panel of judges who have been around a lot longer than we have and know their stuff, and i think we just need to keep that in mind when we're ranting about how they thought that one group didn't deserve to be in finals or this group did. I think another factor about the competetion and maybe i'm wrong but, our competetion isn't about poltics and reputations like a lot of them are getting to be that way, and we still really try to recognize the talent of the group not the name, so hope that none of you who are in really awesome groups that had an amazing shot at finals will still come next year and not hate us forever! thanks for coming!
