can anyone tell me about about seminole high schools Destiny choir i heard they are pretty good i just wanted to know where they place and what people thought about them.,
So my family went to Orlando for my spring break. Well what better to do when you're on spring break than watch show choir!! Showstoppers prelims happened to be going on while we were at Disney. I watched several of the groups. Of the ones I saw, Center Grove was awesome. Creet was good too. They were my two favorites. I found out that a Fame competition was happening on Saturday so I was able to go to finals for that after we went to universal. I LOVED all of the shows. I don't get a chance to see many show choirs except when i've gone to SCA. i had only heard of a few of the groups i saw this weekend. I saw a few people in the groups that i recognized from show choir camp. i ordered a DVD of the fame competition, and you could pick it up after the competition. after watching the DVD a few times, this is what i thought about the groups:
CLINTON: their show is amazing. i've never seen a group so clean. i thought the choreography was awesome, except the girls number. i didn't really love the choreography for it, but the soloist made up for it. if it weren't for the soloist, that song would crash and burn. obviously she is amazing, she won best female soloist and best female performer. the best male soloist and best male performer were also from clinton, but i don't remember their names. sometimes groups have so much energy that it seems out of control. I love how clinton had energy shooting off the stage, but it was controlled. their vocals were very good too. other groups had great vocal moments, but clinton had the most consistent vocals from beginning to end. clinton is by far the best show choir i have ever seen.
LONG BEACH: judging on entertainment value, i loved the show. judging on vocals, i probably would have had long beach in 6th place. the show is very entertaining, i love the energy, but the vocals are very below average. but i'm not a judge, i'm an audience member, so i really enjoyed the show and will enjoy watching it on DVD. if long beach had better vocals, other groups would have to watch out....they are great.
SULLIVAN: once again, not the best sound, but some good vocal moments. the emcee said your school has 300 students?!?! how are there so many beautiful girls at such a small school. i really enjoyed the show. some people get jealous of groups that obviously spend alot of money on their show, but sullivan does it in such a creative way that it really works. however, the closer was just too much. i felt like there were so many feathers and capes that i didn't even know what to look at. overall, a great show. congrats on winning the band award, but i thought most contests had a rule that when a group has more than one adult in the band they aren't eligible for the band award. i guess fame doesn't have this rule. i guess this should make clinton even more excited to win best horns considering they were up against adults.
MUNDELEIN: the show was good and there were some good vocal moments. i just don't like when diction is overdone. the purpose of diction is for the listeners to understand what you are saying. i also thought the choreo could be cleaner at times. for the most part, i enjoyed the show.
BEECH: i was pleasantly surprised with this school. you could tell they didn't have a choreographer that had done alot of show choirs because their choreo. was different. they also sang really well. the worst part about the show was the girls costumes. i thought every girls costume change was probably the ugliest costumes i had ever seen. other than the costumes, i thought they were great. i would love to see them compete more. i probably would have had them placed higher.
WINFIELD: way to represent the east coast!!! i'm partial to the east coast, but i really loved the show. for those of you who haven't seen it, they have an 'interactive' show. they have an emcee that comes out and says, "would you like to see the group end this song with an 8 part acapella vocal or a dance break?" and judging by audience applause they would do either one. they had many parts of their show where they did this. i thought this was sooooo creative. the vocals were good, but they seemed forced most of the show. there weren't many soft vocal moments. everything was in your face.
---so i hope i didn't seem negative about any group because this competition was the favorite part of my family vacation. i was in heaven because i never get a chance to see many groups, and i got to see soooo many over a two day time period. all of the groups were soo amazing. i wish i could comment more on the groups from showstoppers, but i don't remember as much from them because i didn't get a DVD from that. i don't know if you can. the DVD from fame is pretty good quality as well, except i don't like when the sound on the DVD comes straight from the sound board. you tend to hear individual voices more than you do when you are there in person. other than that the DVD is awesome. i have the website of the company that recorded it. www.advisua.com 1-877-ADVISUA. the finals DVD was $40. a little expensive, but its a good DVD and i love all of the groups on it.
i don't ever post on here because i haven't seen many of the groups that people are talking about. now that i've had a chance to see alot of them, i'm excited to get involved. have a great day!!
Today is the day!!!!! " border="0" alt="clover.gif" /> Good luck to everyone performing!!!! Hopefully someone will post results here!!! If I get them before anyone else (from my daughter who is there) I'll post them. " border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
Best wishes Winfield! Do your best in your first National Competition!
I've also heard of Beech and Tullahoma. Tullahoma is in Tennessee I believe, and they used to come down to some of the Southern comps... but I haven't seen them in a while. As for Beech, I've just heard their name before. They are from the MidWest I think, so they could be good... I just don't know.
This is the schedule for FAME Orlando. I know about Clinton, Sullivan, and i've heard of Mundelein. But is there any other groups that are any good..ones to look out for..Any ones I should make sure to watch???..opinions??? thanks
