After watching Powerhouse's performance on the pop show, (maybe 15 times?) anyone who is going to this competition is going to be in for a treat! Truly a competition for the ages coming up in 2 weeks!

So sad to think that the hot brockets most likely will end our best band streak at WWS.

All hail Brock.

Way to stay positive!

But there isn't a smaller margin between 5th and 6th compared to 1st and 2nd; both margins have a difference of two...

Thanks, captain obvious! I guess I figured when I said "many competitions" it would be clear that I am fully capable of subtraction and comparison of numbers, and was proposing that there are competitions that actually do have the point spreads of which I was speaking

The 21, 19, etc. point distribution is what many competitions do for rankings in finals. The way many have it set up is to have a bigger point split between 1st and 2nd, which rewards groups for getting a winning rank, and have a smaller margin between 5 and 6, to make less of a "tanking" effect of awarding a 6th place.

But there isn't a smaller margin between 5th and 6th compared to 1st and 2nd; both margins have a difference of two...

If what you're saying is true, a point spread should be similar to the following:
No placement: 0 pts
6th Place: 1 pts
5th Place: 3 pts
4th Place: 6 pts
3rd Place: 10 pts
2nd Place: 15 pts
1st Place: 21 its

Each higher rank has a progressively larger margin compared to the previous placement.

Even though this is a very strange way to accumulate predictions, I kind of like it haha. I do have a question though:

Thanks for the feedback! I don't have any reason for the math other than I stole it from competitions like Monona Grove and Brodhead. After looking at the rankings and conversions I just felt like it was a very accurate way to decide the ranks. But I also took your suggestion and the results ended the same way with an exception that Carmel snuck ahead of Buffalo by two points!

So I've decided to combine everyone's predictions again! I did it for Great River too and as a community we were pretty close!

GC: John Burroughs (BB)
1RU: Waubonsie (BV BC BB)
2RU: Hastings (BV BB)
3RU: Carmel (TIE)
3RU: Buffalo Grove (TIE)
5RU: Wheaton North
6RU: Naperville

For each placement GC through 5RU the respective points were given 21, 19, 16, 14, 11, 9.
So for example John Burrough's score was calculated using this method (7*21)+(4*19)+(1*16)+(0*14)+(0*11)+(0*9)= 239
Another example with Wheaton North's score (0*21)+(1*19)+(0*16)+(2*14)+(1*11)+(5*9)= 103
For BV, BC, BB I simply tallied how many times a user awarded the respective caption to each group.

Of course this isn't a perfect system as there were some early predictions but I wanted everyone who put in predictions be heard! It'd be pretty cool if as a community we could predict results! Good luck to all groups!

Oh, and I will ACTUALLY be updating the combined predictions as more predictions roll in

Even though this is a very strange way to accumulate predictions, I kind of like it haha. I do have a question though:

What is the mathematical basis for this point distribution? Wouldn't it make just as much or more sense to award first place as 1 point, second place as 2 points, and so on, calculating for lowest score and using that as a basis for predictions? Right now your point values start at an arbitrary 21 then fluctuate between 2 less, 3 less, 2 less, 3 less, and 2 less. Or to make things even easier, you could calculate first as 6pts, second at 5pts, and continue to subtract one point for every placement higher until you reach zero , where zero equals no placement in the top 6.

Also, for accounting purposes with your current set-up, you should include a category that shows how many times a predictor did not place the group in the top 6 and multiply by zero. This way you can accurately keep track of the number of predictions made.

I am saying that WWS 2014 was just as stacked as WWS 2016. Which is why I said 'Don't have to go back that far.'

The OP said 'Has there ever been another competition as incredibly stacked as THIS one in show choir history'

Don't have to go back that far. WWS 2014 was just as stacked. Mt. Zion and Solon didn't make finals. MZ then went on to win Fame Nationals.

28 varsity groups. IT. WAS. INSANE. Soooo happy I went.

I was in the 4th grade. Show choir didn't exist to me until almost 4 years later.

This comp is STILL talked about regularly at our school. I wish it would happen again! Apparently some of the groups performed Friday night and the rest went Saturday. So so so crazy!

Onalaska 2004.
Unless a miracle happens, I don't think any competition will come close to it. It was wayyy before my time with the show choir world so obviously my knowledge of who was the best at that time was limited but I can't imagine what it would've been like to just attend and watch ALL of those groups

So what you're saying is you guys are hosting every SCC member in your room
Yes, but only if it ends up becoming a sequined toga party
