getting back to show choir...
haha
wv was amazing, as i think i've said, a lot. I think i would agree with what was said earlier about their weakness being their show design...only because the beginning of their set was so fantastic with a powerful opener and wonderful ballad, and after that, it died for me. They have the talent to be the best, but i personally didn't see the consistancy. Summing it up, I fully expect to see WV kicking some ass and being a force to reckon with in the future. =)

No Thanks.
If we can talk about FAME New York in this topic... then I can drop a harmless political joke without getting nagged at.

Sound Sensations may be the 2nd best girls group in the universe. Mundelein Lights is the best.

A couple years ago, many people would challenge this statement and throw in Crete-Monee "Faces"

Yeah... same here... But I was in Iowa City all weekend... and was living life without the internet for about 2 1/2 days.

It was quite nice.

It was quite nice for the rest of us too.

Just to set the record straight, Sound Sensations didn't make finals at Branson '05. There were semi-finals and then finals, and they made semis. Only three groups made finals.

However, I do agree that our girls outdid themselves at Chicago, and competed about as well as possible against some very good mixed groups; and that they're the best girls group in the universe! Objectively speaking, of course.

lol, true, but coming into Showstoppers Chicago with OUR kind of set juxtaposed against Mt. Zion and others really made me feel like a newcomer

Does it really make you a relative newcomer if you win a national competition three years before 2004?? " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I actually thought that Waubonsie Valley's weaknesses in Chicago were their relative inexperience in the show choir world, and their show design. Vocally, I thought they were stylistically appropriate, and at least from where I was sitting (which admittedly was nowhere near the judges, as no one was allowed in the balcony), they had better blend and balance than Clinton or North Central.

Reading these pages really brings back memories of Show choir for me....I just wanted to give a perspective from the past...

About four years ago, a relative newcomer to a national competition set boundaries with their intensity and iconoclastic approach to show choir. Sadly, their relative lack of inexperience with nationals and competing against the powerhouses at the time, which included Buffalo Grove, Mt. Zion and EEE gave them a best musicianship award, but fourth place overall, due to their inappropriate(at the time) choreography...needless to say, that group was John Burroughs Powerhouse.

I see a lot of parallels between PH 2004 and Waubonsie Valley. They may be a newcomer and relatively new to the experience, judging from the HD video, they possess a lot of potential and choirs DO learn from their mistakes. So I say WATCH OUT

But I digress. COngratulations to my Alma Mater for kicking ASh at FAME Chicago! I knew that FAME Branson left many of us wanting more and I'm glad that we've come full circle in such a short time! Way to rock the Show Choir world!

Yeah, I can go down as one of those folks that thought WV's show was a winner - I had 'em in first for prelims AND finals actually. I know, I know - lot's of discussion can be had about their vocal tone (which some claim can be shouty) - but which I found to be exhilerating, or their choreography (which some found to be messy) - but which I found to be so physical and powerful, I felt while their execution might have suffered in comparison to the crazy cleanliness of Clinton, WV's show was still so WELL choreographed. I just have this whole new love for Dwight Jordan's work after seeing WV and Wheaton Warrenville this season. So what if they got 4th? If they continue to grow as exponentially as they have in just the past 2-3 years, at their next national contest (and there will be another I'm sure of it), the judges will have no choice but to place them first. I just have this gut feeling that these 2 suburban Chicago schools are going to soon be the industry standard - California had better watch out!

Okay, so I'm clearly not making these deadlines at all. But rest assured I have not put sleep in the way of making sure you get these clips!

Tonight's performance is from Waubonsie Valley's "Soundcheck" and from what I can surmise is the most-discussed opener of the year.

Waubonsie Valley "Soundcheck" - Download in full 1080p High Definition

Download instructions: Please right-click this file and choose "save file as" to download it to your computer. Once it has completely finished, rename the file by removing the "X" at the end of the filename. The file should then be ready to play - just double-click it to watch!

More outstanding performances are coming soon. Enjoy!!

Jen Oundjian is phenomenal. Calling her work "stiff" is like calling George Bush, "inteligent"... it never was or will be true.

Eat your heart out, Tony A! :-p

My my.. this MONSTER of a thread just keeps growing into the biggest thread ever viewed and replied in showchoir.com history!! You just can't stop it... and when it is about to die.. someone keeps giving it life!

FACT:
  • FAME Chicago will go down in history as one of the All-Time Epic Battles! The closest to a REAL national championship as we may ever get. Thank you to Clinton, Burroughs, North Central and new comer Wabounsie Valley for making this possible!
  • FAME has now become a tycoon when it comes to playing show choir monopoly. They have every railroad, all the greens, yellows, reds, Park Place and Boardwalk leaving the purples and light blues to Showstoppers. (note: Showstoppers is still very high class! But Fame is a tycoon)
  • Out of all the Grand Championships Burroughs has won, this has to be the ULTIMATE one that now has put them up in the stratosphere! What an awesome win.
  • Clinton will always be the most consistent TOP NOTCH Show Choir in history. 7 years undefeated.. nuff said.
  • Not all Republicans claim Bush as our own... Watching 'Democrat eat Democrat' has been a "circus" of it's own, much to the delight of the Republicans... oh... and intelligent has two "ll's... Mr. Jorge " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> pinch.gif
