Actually I have seen show choir from every part of the country and it is a fact that the best currently resides in california. That might be different next year and that might have been different 30 years ago but as for right now it's not close. I lol'd at you saying the top three here are burbank, burroughs, and hart because Im guessing those are the ONLY 3 you are familiar with and I doubt you've seen all 3 in person to know that they are the best from Cali.

Actually I thought it was funny you think the Cali top 3 is better than the Indiana top 3 and that the rest would be close. I would LOVE to see the look on your face when you expect to see a drop off after Hart and then Chula Vista Main Attraction takes stage and you realize they are better than Hart. And then after that Brea Olinda Masqerade takes stage you realize they are probably better than both Chula Vista and Hart lol.

Im not trying to start any kind of regional war lol im just stating fact. The bottom line is both areas produce excellent choirs. Like I said maybe next year that will be completely different and Indianapolis would be home to the best. However, as it stands right now Comparing California show choirs to their counterparts in Indy is not even fair.

and you're being snarky... There's no doubt that this year burroughs is a spectacle... But in my opinion they're pretty overrated... It's not like their show was a sign of the second coming or something... They tried a new concept and it worked. Awesome for them!!! The opener is incredible, but just like with any other show choir, the vocals deteriorated by the end of the show, The choreography got less interesting, and the song choice (though i know it was limited to the theme) for me was not perfect... They didn't compete against the best group in indiana this year, Nor the second or third best... not that they would have necessarily lost, But i doubt you've seen all the indy choirs this year in person to make that conclusion, Just like i haven't seen all the cali choirs... But i know from a technical/scoresheet standpoint Carmel has burroughs number... The arranging is incredible, the choreography and stage movement is incredibly interesting and difficult... not just blocking, Formations....... the vocals are absolutely incredible and their band is (as always) probably the best i've ever heard...

But thats all i'm going to say...

I think this can all be answered with entering another pointless war.

well, for one, Carmel Highschool is not in Indianapolis... It's it's own city 30 miles north ish of downtown indianapolis. I'd have to say that carmel this year is technically astounding in every way. They were clearly the best in indiana this year, and they would have taken Burroughs down by a hefty amount had they been in chicago. Seeing as Clinton did so well with what seemed to me to be a mediocre performance of the style i'd have to say Carmel is the best choir in the country this year...

And lets not forget that North Central did dominate Burroughs in 2006, a lot bigger point spread than this...

I'd say california has 2 of the top 5 choirs in the country... But thats as far as i'll go for any of that... Hart, Chula vista, etc... all those groups would have had a really hard time beating Center grove, Franklin Central, Or huntington north this year... North Central in my opinion this year is about 4th in indiana... From what i've seen i'd have to say the top 5 in indy for 2008 are Carmel, Huntington North, Franklin Central, North Central, Center Grove.

If you go by the past 5 or 10 years, Indiana is clearly way beyond california in the depth of the competition field.... As is iowa

The 2 states that are really neck and neck for the most competitive are Indiana and Iowa... California is close, but after the top 4 choirs the level drops dramatically... In either of the other states it stays fairly close to the group ahead... anyway

Comparing groups from different regions is like comparing apples to oranges. It all comes down to preference. For example I like groups like John Burroughs, Burbank, and Hart. However, I think that appearance is a little laid back. (Hair mostly. I'm used to midwest big hair).

On the flip side. I love Indiana and Ohio choreography. Most groups do tap and difficult dancing. But honestly, I have seen some cocky people on here brag about Indiana and it sort of bothers me.

In conclusion, every region has something different to offer. Whether it's the West's "rock out" type of shows. Or the midwests traditional types of shows. Every choir is different in their own way.

I honestly don't believe so. I think that even if you took the top 10 in Indiana vs the top 10 in California that it would be very close, maybe a 6-4 split either way. Your top 3 may be better than our top 3, but the rest of them would be close. I consider your top 3 Burbank, Burroughs, and Hart and our top 3 Center Grove, North Central, and Carmel. I understand that you are only used to seeing California show choir but if you go back to the roots and where tradition is, Indiana would win.

Indianapolis has a strong group of Show Choirs in its city so your two can be trumped by Indianapolis' six.

Center Grove
North Central
Franklin Central
Lawrence Central
Carmel
Warren Central

For one thing In Sync and Powerhouse would beat any group on that list. For another thing you're comparing Indianapolis and Burbank lol. If you compare them that way it would be Los Angeles and Indianapolis in which case your 6 are so easily trumped

Perhaps you meant the BURBANK CHOIR PROGRAMS being the pride of the state. Powerhouse isn't the only great choir at Burroughs AND Burroughs isn't the only high school in the city of Burbank with an incredible program. Burbank High School's program under Brett Carroll is unquestionably equally as good. In fact, you can make a great case that the city of Burbank has the best vocal program in the nation among high schools. But being the pride of the state is a good start.....

A bit of a biased opinion.

It is the pride of the school and the administration. Our principal, Mr. Urioste was in Chicago for FAME and cheered louder than anyone! Unfortunately, budgetary decisions come from the state. Everyone knows that the arts are woefully underfunded, and are usually the first to take cuts.
The win in Chicago was front page news in our local newspaper, and the choirs received a hero's welcome at the airport. They do receive plenty of moral support from the community.

That's good to hear! Maybe Powerhouse should be the pride of the state

Valley's principle came with us to Hawaii (I know, too bad for her ;) ) and she was one of our loudest cheering. After the awards ceremony she was in tears.

Wow that REALLY surprises me that the school district does not give you guys a whole lot of help. With how incredible your program is I would assume it to be the pride of the school and the administration over there.

haha. yeah you would think so huh? eh whatevs, haha.
i think rago said once that if we functioned solely off what they alloted for vocal music we would have a choir in robes with one piece of music a year...
so good thing we don't ;)
