Wait...why is there junior high and tier 2 and Single-Gender groups in the open division? If anyone can clarify I’d appreciate it, I’m a little confused
We use "Open" on SCC to indicate kind of like a, catch-all division. I mean, in this case, there's a middle school group, a women's group, a mixed prep group, and a varsity mixed group. Like what kind of division is that? We know y'all in Wisco usually call this division "Class A," but frankly that term is not a helpful descriptor for a division title. Nobody outside of Wisco knows what Class A means.
On SCC, we have uniform division titles that can work across all the different competition types from Wisco, to California, and down South. For SCC, the top division is usually Mixed or Mixed Tier I (instead of Open as y'all call it). So I get the confusion is that y'all call Open your advanced division and we consider Open a catch-all. From my perspective, y'alls Class A is essentially a prep division. I'm not sure why we don't have it labeled as Prep on this page. I'll go ahead and make that adjustment so it's more clear.
It’s not even uniform within the state. It’s “Class A” some places, just “Prep” other places and in some the varsity is “Mixed” and the single-gender/mixed “tier II” combined division is Open. It’s just so odd and having the occasional middle school bounce up only makes it more interesting!
