I don't believe there was a posting on the soloists...
Best Male Soloist went to Ryan Kirby from Wheaton. Great job Chicken Little, you were so entertaining.
Best Female Soloist went to Claire Melchert from Waconia. So proud

The closer was clean, straight arms, etc. but is it that hard to do when half of the Free Bird chore is directly lifted from Attache's 2007 opener.
I honestly have nothing against Waconia. I think they were great yesterday.

Well first of all you most definitely deserved the -40 likes. Not for your opinions but for your negative and hurtful remarks. Secondly KEVIN CHASE STEALING CHEREO FROM APRIL JAMES! YOU ARE MISTAKEN CUZ THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE AND RUDE. Thirdly
judges score a group on how well the execute and perform the show they have. Waconia did an incredible job with their show and you can't blame judges for giving them the scores they deserved. You are certainly entitled to your own opinions but be aware that people work very hard to go and do well at competitions And I highly doubt so many incredible groups would attend a competition with an unqualified judging panel. On that note I'd like to say I loved all the groups I did see. I didn't catch Wheaton or WV but I'm sure you both were incredible. Everyone has something to be proud of today. Best of luck for the rest of your seasons.

Milton, Milton, Milton… This competition proved very interesting.

Waubonsie was amazing yesterday. Without a doubt they proved they deserved to win. Interestingly, their prelims was much stronger than finals, in my opinion. Obviously finals was still incredible but there seemed to be a drop off from the day show which is unlike them.

WWS was also amazing. Their prelims performance wasn't delivered like a classic Classics show but wow. their finals performance was stunning. It is very evident that they deserved to come in second behind WV.

I'm thinking that out of the some -40 dislikes I had for my previous post, probably 20 or more were Waconia kids. Lol. But they used it for fuel I guess. Their prelims performance was very strong. But I think that would be even more the case to those who don't have trained eyes in show choir (i.e. parents, grandparents, etc.)
They were good in prelims, but they were not elite.
As I thought from their video, their first half of their show was pretty average. Certainly not at the level required to keep up with WV or WWS. One thing I was worried about was this seemingly unqualified judging panel putting them in the top two. Waconia was loud pretty much the whole show. And a lot of people are easily impressed by that. But there is a major difference between the sound that Sound Check produces and the sound Waconia had. Not only was the first half of the show practically yelled (and out of tune for a majority of it) but they also sang A LOT of unison. Now it is pretty obvious that when everyone is singing the same note the sound will naturally be louder and fill the performance space.
The closer was clean, straight arms, etc. but is it that hard to do when half of the Free Bird chore is directly lifted from Attache's 2007 opener.

I honestly have nothing against Waconia. I think they were great yesterday. But third place was where they should have finished, and ultimately where they did finish.

Overall, the competition did a great job staying on time, keeping the day rolling, and finishing things up by 11. That was much appreciated by everyone.

I dont' normally reply much on these forums, however, let me make it VERY clear to you about a couple things…

I have NEVER nor would I EVER rip off someone's choreography from a YouTube video. April James is an amazing choreographer and one of my dear friends, and I would never do that to her.
I have never in my career decided to choreograph a song and then go and watch what someone else did with that same song on YouTube. If I know another group is doing or has done a song I am choreographing, I refuse to watch it online as to not wanting to be influenced in any direction. It's been years since I've even seen Clinton's Freebird on youtube.
Dave Fehr himself arranged the Waconia closer for us, and on what planet would I be dumb enough to lift the same choreo from one of the most recognized show choir songs ever?!?

As far as your predictions and your thoughts on what results should be, that is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to that. I believe your original post was disliked several times by many people due to the tone, negativity, and wording of it. I also don't believe there are even 10-let alone 20 kids from Waconia who have been on this forum lately. Most of my students these days aren't even aware of this site, nor have accounts. I wish more people would use this site!

As far as people who don't have a trained eye watching their show yesterday, 2 very respectable and capable judges had them in first place in finals (thats's the only results I know of yet). So please be careful making assumptions, on the "seemingly unqualified judging panel".

I will not comment on my thoughts on results nor my thoughts comparing Waconia to the other groups in finals
I will say for Waconia to be even be in 2nd place in day, and only 2 points behind Waubonsie Valley is a huge accomplishment for their program. We are honored to even be in the same company as Waubonsie and WWS and their fantastic and long lasting successful programs!

I know many directors who prefer their kids to not be on this site because of certain people/posts that really ruin what should be a supportive and encouraging place to discuss groups and results. Some people just really take it too far and are outright rude and demeaning in what they say about other people, groups, results, etc. Lets not forget how lucky we all are to be apart of this show choir community and learning from other groups and supporting other groups is one of the greatest things about this community!

Critique judges from day round as well as Milton's former director Bill Schrank were added for finals. They were still divided into vocals and choreo.

I'm curious. Who judged in finals and how was it scored? Was it a full sheet? Or were some judges on vocals and some on visuals?
