I'm guessing you are referring to Sands time with Protege? Because, Prairie hasn't been to GR since 2007 and Sands hasn't been at GR since he was with the Kennedy programs.
I am so very excited to bring my group home to MY high school's show choir competition. I've been to every Great River since I was a freshman in High School (2003). I've emceed once, hosted 2 times (cancelled due to renovations my senior year), and watched as a spectator with friends seven times. I was always nervous when contemplating bringing RCR to compete- not because I didn't think they'd do well... just that typical "don't want to let anyone down" mentality... but now its time!
Great River is legitimately one of, if not the best high school competitions in the midwest. I've been to so many all over and no one can really top the venue, the atmosphere, and the unique communal home room feel. Great River also means a lot to me because its where I truly discovered the love of show choir. I saw my first "out of Davenport" groups here in 2003. Mayville, CR Kennedy, CR Jefferson, & Davenport North blew me away that year. I still get the same tingles I felt back then when I think about their shows.
I too, prescribe to the "Great River Magic" that groups like Kennedy tap into. For those who don't understand... no matter how a group's season goes, it always seems that they will then attend GR and something other-worldly takes over and they have a phenomenal show. For example- 2007 Kennedy. Rough season... yet at GR, you would have never known. CR Washington also used to come and always have knock out performances. Well... After seeing it first hand for years, I'm hoping Muscatine and I can tap into that "magic" today.
Good luck to all groups today. I'm beyond excited and proud to be back home. I'm already smiling ear to ear. It's going to be a GREAT day for all!
Fun Fact: First time Muscatine has been to Great River since 2002! Go get 'em Muskies!
Historically Ziegler and Sands both buy into the magic that happens in D-port (woot woot) but for some reason Ziegler has seen success and Sands seems to get that one judge that disrupts his scores. It will be interesting to see how these two do along with an always talented Muscatine, a Bettendorf group that has rising potential, and the hometown favorite Davenport North. I don't know too much about Roosevelt or Marshalltown but it's show choir season and anything can happen with these two groups as well.
Davenport was/is ALWAYS the BEST place to compete and everything about this competition is amazing. Best of luck to all groups but a special shout out to Sands and Zig.

I don't feel comfortable saying who will take GC- Ambassadors or Happiness, Inc. Either way, it's going to be tough for both groups and I'm super excited to compete at the same competition as them again.

According to Kevin Chase's facebook, Waconia will not be attending due to the weather up in MN

Don't forget about Waconia, they haven't been having that great of season so far but I believe that they'll do well at this competition.

It appears as though the schedule has changed. It seems like every time I post a schedule for a competition they always come out with a revised one. Anyways the new schedule can be found on the website here.
Thanks for pointing this out, it has been updated above. It doesn't really seem like the schedule changed all that much other than a few groups switching performance times and Marshalltown moving from the 2A/3A division to 4A.
