Secondly, I would be willing to say that your thoughts and opinions do, in fact, reflect the views of the Albertville show choir program to a significant degree.
How is that quote right there not accusing everyone having anything to do with the Albertville show choir program of sharing the same opinion as me? You straight up said it! There's no denying it. Now you may have meant something else, but it's pretty clear from that quote what you said.

Yet every other person posting from Albertville on here doesn't share my sentiments.
There goes your argument.

I'm not really sure what argument you're talking about... I never said that every other person posting from Albertville on here shares your sentiments, especially seeing as how many of them frequently post about how they disagree with you.

People don't have to like my opinions.
Indeed, they do not.

I don't post them to be liked. But I can tell you that more people like them than don't.
The rather large number of (anonymous) "dislikes" which typically characterize your posts would seem to indicate otherwise.

You have no idea how many people have messaged me saying try completely agree with me, but didn't wanna post in public forums because they didn't wanna be attacked by everyone.
You're right. I do not.

I, unlike them, do not care.

Just FY('s)I - Regardless of any disclaimers you make, people will associate any posts you make with the ASSOCIATED SHOW CHOIR you have listed on your profile. Secondly, I would be willing to say that your thoughts and opinions do, in fact, reflect the views of the Albertville show choir program to a significant degree. You said it yourself, the reason for your post was that you are still upset about something that happened while you were in that program.

I don't need you to defend me as there is a disclaimer at the bottom of my comments stating exactly what you just said!

And while I am on this forum and reading all these posts I want to sort of make something clear. Andy has NOTHING to do with this choir organization. Yes he was in the choir a year or two I believe and played in the band a season or so, but I can not stress enough how much his comments and "reviews" have ZERO ties with anyone's feelings currently in the program.

Each and every choir program is unique and different in each way. And like a previous post earlier said to say someone is having a "down year" is a tragic comment. Sometimes you need to step back and realize that some of these kids have NOTHING but a choir family. They are good at nothing but can sing or dance or maybe they have no friends but can lift things so their on stage crew. You have no idea about the lives and current situations of students. They could be living their golden years and be happy or could be emotionally unstable. I have been in this program for 10 years now and I have seen blood, sweat, tears, broken bones, concussions, accidents, etc..and HOW DARE you or anyone for that matter tear away that effort from these kids! And not just Albertville kids, but any group out there. Now let's be honest. Yes, there are groups that are not on the same level as others, we get that, but you have no right whatsoever to call those kids out and say ANYTHING negative. That's not a being an adult or anything other then a childish boy.

I understand people have their own opinions and everyone has one, but that does not mean you have to share it and tell everyone. Think before you speak. At a certain time in life you must realize that you are not a kid anymore, and your words are a stronger and carry a heavier meaning then what a young teenage kid may have.

Now I'm sure I'll catch some flack for "calling someone out", but I just felt like that was something that needed to be said.

I don't need you to defend me as there is a disclaimer at the bottom of my comments stating exactly what you just said! Don't ever speak for me again! Nobody speaks for me except for me. Just like I don't speak for anyone else!

I'm not sure. I'm kind of out of the loop because I live and teach high school in China now. I am having the time of my life over here, but I have to miss out on a lot of things at home. Youtube is the only way I'll be able to see any shows this year, so I would GREATLY appreciate any shows that are uploaded.

I believe it had a lot to do with the size of our props/set and things of the nature. It is kind of a tight squeeze as it is, and then you bring us (Albertville) into the mix, it eliminates almost all space.

Homewood, congrats on the GC!

Auburn, keep your heads up. I have heard nothing but phenominal things about yall this year!

Jackson Prep, I heard great things about yall today too. I can not wait to see yall at Homewood!

Enterprise, I'm honestly a tad bit shocked you didn't place higher.

Oak Mountain, nothing I can really stand out say but I'm sure you guys did great as always!

Congrats to ALL groups who performed today and I'm sure there's a reasonable explination about why the results came out the way they did.

Andy, you have the right to your own opinion. Just like a lot of people don't understand how a president can win popular vote but lose the electoral college vote. However, this place is a positive atmosphere (in my opinion.) Therefore, let's keep it to positive, uplifting messages! I haven't seen any live groups this year; however, I have heard great things about MANY groups. I'm sure Auburn is very happy with their placement this weekend. Good luck and let's continue to have an excellent season here in the south and across the nation!

Hey Daniel. Why didn't Centerstage come this year? It would've been awesome to see two undefeated choirs, albeit early in the season, go head to head.

Competitions with split captions are very common. It is also not the first time a group has won a GC without winning the two major captions. That happens several times a year. I think that the fact one group didn't sweep shows how accurate the judging was. It's rare to see a group do everything better than all the other groups.

To the comment about Homewood having a "down year", I believe no one ever has a down year. Instead of it being a "down year" so to speak, it's more of a specialization thing. If you take a group of Seniors who were awesome singers AND dancers and they graduate out leaving one class that's great singers and the rest that are good dancers you generally have better choreo than you do vocals. To me, it all counts on the mixture of people you have in the choir and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Everytime you watch a choir, you can generally tell that they're better in one category than they are another. No choir has a down year. And Homewood obviously isn't having a down year if this is their 3rd GC of the year.

I saw where the second half of Homewood's show is on youtube, but where is the first half? I can't wait to see it!

Congratulations to everyone that competed here. I think this was the first time the "CenterStage!" has not attended this competition since it even began!

Congrats to all the groups that were there! So much talent on the stage throughout the day.

I do believe the judges got this one right. Homewood has a fantastic concept this year and they do a good job of applying it and making it known to the audience. Bravo, Mr. Thorne. Choreo and vocals were both on point as always. Auburn definitely had the best vocals but the choreography didn't really fit some of the songs and wasn't as clean as in years past.

Lastly, Andy, you say the ranking system allows a judge to be biased. That's funny because the ranking system was actually put in place to counteract one judge being biased and throwing off the scoring, as Peyton pointed out. I know you think you should've beaten Attache way back when and blame it on the ranking system and you are entitled to your opinion, but come on, get over it. You weren't even at this competition and you are demeaning choirs and judges. There's a reason you have multiple downs on all of your posts.

Haha! It's quite hilarious that you think you're better than me because you have a degree in Music Education. You're blindly unaware of the fact that Music Education is my major.
Probably because your profile says that you aren't in college at the moment and that Musical Theatre is your area of interest. Perhaps if you're back in school and changed your major, you should update it.

And Homewood is having a down year this year. They aren;t as good as they usually are. It happens. Have you seen any of these groups that were in finals? Because I've seen every one except for Jackson Prep. So I KNOW that Auburn is better than Homewood this year.
So you may have seen several of these groups previously, but you weren't there tonight. Throughout the competition season, groups develop. They get better, more crisp, and switch things up. If a choir is performing the same exact way in January as they are in March, well then that's disappointing. To be even more specific, each and every performance should be unique from one another including daytime to evening finals performance. So what I'm getting at is that you may have thought that Auburn was better than Homewood when you saw them previously, but that was then and this is now. Things change. I really dislike when people say that a group is having a "down year". It's incredibly disrespectful for the current group of students, notably the seniors who are giving it their last shot. Current students don't want to be compared to years past, they want to pave their own road and have their own separate, spectacular identity. There are no "down years", there are just new students every year, because it's high school and students graduate.

Your posts are your opinion and you have very strong opinions, I get that and so does everyone else, but you should really consider framing your opinions in more constructive ways. In several of your most recent posts, you have basically told all of those Homewood students that they aren't good enough and that they didn't deserve the grand championship trophy. That's extremely negative and, as Adam said, astonishing. Not only that, but you basically gave them a "back-handed compliment" ... you say "anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge fan of Homewood", and say "if you don't win either Choreo or Vocals you don't deserve to win". Really? They are what?...14-18 year old kids that are performing their hearts out, leaving it all on stage, and currently experiencing the "golden years" of high school...and you're telling them they aren't good enough? Well I hope that Homewood sees those posts and uses all of it as motivation to continue improving and continue winning grand championships. Because a real advocate of music education takes motivational and supportive approaches, not tearing others down and ridiculing the score systems (which you did incorrectly, as Mr. Alsobrook so graciously pointed out). It's called role modeling and respecting different perspectives, something you, sir, have a lot to learn.

And, for the record, I wholeheartedly trust the thoughts, opinions, and scores of judging panels, even when I personally disagree, because they are educated, qualified, and experienced. That trust that I, and many others, have for judging panels is called respect and integrity. Please try to be more constructive in your future posts. Thank you.

Hey guys,

Just to clear things up, we do use a ranking system, however the results were the exact same rather we would have done total points or ranking. We use ranking to prevent one judge from deciding the outcome of the competition rather it be by giving a group a really high or low score. In this case, however, the ranking versus total point argument is not worth having as they both produced the same results. Thanks to everyone that came out and made it a fantastic competition. The best Middle School, Girls division, and overall talent of mixed groups we have ever had. Look forward to having everyone back next year.

My post was not referring to any kind of ranking system. I would be curious to hear how you think a ranking system works, as typically, it's (mathematically) the fairest way out there.

As someone with a college degree in Music Education, I am strongly opinionated about the fact that another grown adult, alumni or not, just told another group that they did not deserve to win. If you'd like to discuss it further I would be more than happy to discuss it with you via Private Message. Thank you.

Haha! It's quite hilarious that you think you're better than me because you have a degree in Music Education. You're blindly unaware of the fact that Music Education is my major. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm a huge fan of Homewood. Always have been, always will be. But I'm also a realist. And Homewood is having a down year this year. They aren;t as good as they usually are. It happens. Have you seen any of these groups that were in finals? Because I've seen every one except for Jackson Prep. So I KNOW that Auburn is better than Homewood this year. The ranking system that I mentioned was described by me above. Judges can give a choir all the points they want, but then rank them by their favorites and that's how the winners are determined. I've watched it happen many times and have experienced it personally. It sucks to win by points, but then lose because you weren't the favorite of the judges. Most comps here in the South use it or have used it in the past. And it's dumb. Also, I don't PM anybody! IF you have something to say to me, then be man enough to say it in public!
