But I think if SW has improved their vocals as much as ATSC has (reportedly) improved their choreo, SW will take 'em. It all comes down to who has worked the hardest these past few weeks.
I know Johnston is feeling pretty confident about beating SW, but (and I'll happily eat my hat on this if I'm proven wrong) I think SW had a bad week/wasn't trying their best/were all sick as dogs at Norris, and I think Johnston really wanted it and performed a kickass show. I think this week SW will be back to their usual selves.
On a semi related note, I remember the one time we didn't make finals when I was in Resonance was when we thought we totally had it in the bag. We didn't go full out in daytimes, trying to save it for finals. I think we all learned our lesson and got what we deserved.
Fun stuff. Can't wait to hear the results, along with everybody's notes and reactions!
I could see Dowling finishing anywhere from 1RU to 5RU. They're a pretty big question mark but in their one competition this year they were leading Urbandale and Ankeny after daytime before falling behind them in finals. Dowling is always one of my favorite show choirs in the nation and IMO the most underrated.
Good luck to everyone. Will be very excited to see the pointspread between Westside and Lincoln SW. Is there a chance Lincoln SW could overtake them? WE WILL SEE.
Anyone have a prediction for this competition? I don't know many of the groups but I think Southwest and Westside could be the top 2 groups. I know Westside is undefeated so far but Southwest is having a great year as well and I have some hope for my former group.
So far, we have all groups planning on being there tomorrow! Here's hoping there's no more snow tonight or tomorrow (knock on wood)! We are looking forward to a great day!
Here are our judges:
Brandon Dean
Dina Else
Jim Cox
John Hanson (Band Judge)
Stephen Todd (Critique)
Steven Albaugh (Critique)
UPDATE: According to Southwest's site everything is a go and they will be leaving at about noon to head up to Minnesota. Glad it seems like everyone will be able to make it.
-My senior year we were supposed to go to Totino's competition and due to snow half way there, our school district wouldn't let us travel when we got to school that morning on Friday. All the show choir kids who had brought stuff for a trip and nothing for school just decided to skip school and enjoy the day instead. It's not fun to miss out on a big competition that you get to spend the night for.
We are supposed to get 10-22 in. thursday night going into friday in Des Moines which is along the way for. What ever hits des moines(weather-wise) hits omaha also 90% of the time. The same usually holds true to lincoln. Hopefully they were wrong about the weather!
Same with Cedar Rapids. When I lived in Lincoln, I found that when we'd get some weather, 20 hours later it would hit my family in CR. That being said, it makes sense that the ferocity of the storm would lessen as it comes east, therefore we did not have nearly that much snow. Usually Lincoln doesn't get hit by storms that much because of the basin it's in. But I do remember one snowfall that gave me an "ugh wtf" moment when I was late to class and then had to brush a ton of snow off my car lol
Schools were closed for a 2nd day in a row here. As of 10 p.m. last night Southwest was still coming as planned but they called off school this morning so I'll let you guys know more if I hear differently.

I'm about 100% sure that we (ATSC) are coming. Our director is about willing to do anything to get there. (Snow is only an obstacle that we can overcome.)
Can't wait to compete with everybody! It really will be an exciting competition.

There is a big snowstorm that is supposed to hit our area around Thursday and the worst hit places will be around Lincoln going out west from there. Hopefully it either hits early enough or we don't get as much as they are saying or Southwest and possibly Westside have a chance of not making it.
If a prep group has 1 or more varsity members performing in it, then that group must be registered in the "AA" division rather than the "A" division. It's one of our competition rules.
They don't have any shared members unless you count band members. Singers/dancers are exclusively in one group at Westside. SI has chosen to compete in open classes before.
