I'll only say a little bit on the shows. But first off, BEST COMPETITION EVER. I seriously had so much fun here and I wasn't even competing. I knew finals would be super close for GC between Solon and Marysville. I have heard it was either 1 or 2 points separating them in finals. Marysville in rankings had 1,1,2,2,2 and Solon had 1,1,1,2,2. It was great!
Solon: Your blend is still fantastic and I really enjoyed your show a lot more than at Beavercreek, very energetic and all words can be understood and diction and cutoffs are fantastic. Still the rock tone I don't like as much as compared to choral but that's me. The volume was there and Dani (I apologize if I spelled her name wrong) killed the closer solo, so good. Congrats and I love you all
Marysville: Your vocals are gorgeous. For real. So much musicality and great blend and tone. I'm really happy your choreography was appreciated here as well because it is difficult and very clean. Finals performance definitely had more energy than daytime although it wasn't quite up to the energy at the showcase. It was a fantastic night performance though and I'm proud of you all
Piqua: I was in the pit for this and I was being spit on.. so much diction haha. I really enjoyed the show and I love those first costumes. Volume was there and it was energetic and from what I heard, a lot improved from last competition. Great job!
Mt. Zion: I really enjoyed your show. I was about to cry during the ballad. Your choreography is fantastic and you have so much energy. I'm sure it was close for choreography between you and Marysville. The thing that hurt you here was your vocals. I definitely noticed chords not lining up and random other vocal things such as people sticking out that took away from the show. There were definitely still fantastic vocal moments though, especially during the opener. The theme is really cool too.
Loveland: You guys have so much energy and I love your choreography. Your vocals are pretty good too although it isn't as musical as it could be especially in your ballad "like breathing". Also there are some parts where some of the guys are really trying to hit the high notes and just not quite getting there. I do enjoy your show a lot and I hope you guys keep improving over these next years!
Cosby: I'm really happy you guys made finals. You guys were so happy as well and it was wonderful to see another out of Ohio group here! I wasn't sure what to expect when you came out with the very classical opener but I'm glad you guys had the different styles. The choral tone was great and I loved your ballad as well! I wasn't expecting the a capella but it was probably my favorite part of your show. Congrats on the placement
Side note... I took a picture and talked with Lanoue. I died.
I want to thank Twinsburg for the great hosting, while there was a lot of chaos and scrambling around, it was a very enjoyable competition to be involved in! I had a lot of great conversations with the volunteers working the event, and many members of other choirs. It was great to see Matoaca's show again, and I was wowed by all the other choirs, especially Twinsburg (of course), Cosby, and the finals performance of Piqua (which was so cool that as I was walking through the cafeteria I just plain stopped, watched, and eventually sat down with some Piqua parents in order to watch more). My choir and I also felt immense support from people, especially those in the pit and audience during our prelims performance. I'd like to thank everyone for showing us such a great time!
ShowOff21 "When a choir has parts for male and female and say the tenor ones are singing the same part as the Sop1s, please sont consider that 8 part harmonies lol."
I'm going to assume you've not heard Solon's vocals very closely because it would make no sense for a tenor 1 to sing the same part as a soprano 1 because they'd probably be singing in head voice which the women have already got covered. Unless maybe you were referring to tenors singing the same part as a soprano, an octave down, which happens occasionally. I can say for sure that Solon is singing some very cool chords incorporating 7s as well as upper extensions like 9s and 13s. It makes absolute sense that they would have 6-8 part chords. The reason they get all of these best vocal awards is because they're able to sing these rich chords in tune, with good forward placement so they can be heard, while doing full out choreo. Other groups either aren't doing this as well as them, as often, or as tastefully, etc. If you meant that Solon's vocals are overrated in that the vast array of judges that critique them (who have an plethora of musical credibility) rate them over almost every group they go against, then I would have to agree with you.
Again, my comment had nothing to do with your choir as stated. And Yes I was meaning Octaves which I obviously out. And don't put me in the same category as your haters lol.
While I usually say this is my second favorite comp, I was disappointed this year. There were so many people there this year which is outstanding for Twinsburg. Half the people there had to watch the daytime awards in the cafeteria. We didn't get to enjoy the great video that we all look forward to. Also, because of the large crowd, we couldn't hear most of what was being awarded. The food, once again was outstanding, the people amazing but disappointed in the final outcome.
Solon's vocals? Over. Rated. Are they good? Yes. But are they that good? No.

Personally, I think Solon deserves the praise they have been getting for their vocals. A large majority of the time Solon (from what I could hear out in the house) was singing in 6-8 part harmonies and had so many crunchy chords that sounded very crisp. Stuff like that I imagine is VERY difficult to do and the fact that they were able to incorporate many stylistic elements into the mix is quite impressive. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinions so I respect yours.
I was very impressed with Marysville and Loveland's shows...I'm a little surprised that Loveland wasn't able to pull up higher but they were fantastic nonetheless.
The final results did turn out a little different than I had imagined, but everyone that competed today BROUGHT it.
Congratulations to Solon on their 3rd GC this season, you really deserved this one. I'm sad your guys' season is ending so early but I'm looking forward to what next year will bring.
Congrats again to all competiting choirs and to Twinsburg on a great competition!
I am from Solon, and I would just like to congratulate GE and Mr. Lanoue on an amazingly well-run competition. We had a lot of fun! Also, congratulations to all the participating choirs! Everyone was fantastic!
Doremi109, thank you for your compliments! They are appreciated by all and we're incredibly flattered that you noticed the points in our show where we are singing in 6-8 part harmony.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this weekend a great experience! Couldn't have asked for a better final competition!
A special thanks to Twinsburg, for hosting another amazing competition. I can't wait for next year. Congratulations to all of the finalists. It was great seeing so much talent, under one roof.

6-8 part harmonies lol. Whos youz kiddin cray cray. (In no reflection to Solon) When a choir has parts for male and female and say the tenor ones are singing the same part as the Sop1s, please sont consider that 8 part harmonies lol. Maybein the ballad you can pull of such a thing, but good luck doing it while dancing and actually having them all heard and blended. There aint no purpose, not even educationally.
Okay, so I was there tonight for finals, so I have no idea what daytime held other than results, but I need to get this off of my chest (feel free to stop reading now because this will be an unpopular opinion).
Solon's vocals? Over. Rated. Are they good? Yes. But are they that good? No. I think that they got so much love last year that it got them a lot of pull this year. I loved Marysville and Piqua's shows, and I had it Marysville Solon Piqua in a very close top 3. I just don't get how they keep winning best vocals when, personally, I don't hear it. Nor do i love their choreo. But their band is outstanding. No doubt.
But nonetheless congrats to Solon on a great season and I'd like to thank GE for a wonderful competition from what I saw.

Let me just say, NoCo was probably one of the most enjoyable competitions I've been to in a while. Mr. Lanoue's humor really made the night!! The slide show before day time awards just about killed me. Also, all of the groups were amazing. All 6 were mind-blowing!! Show choir ROCKS this year!!

I heard that Solon is up by 20 to Marysville. Piqua is losing by 1/2 a point to Marysville. Mt. Zion is losing by 1/2 a point to Piqua. I'm assuming the rest is suuuuper close as well but that's all I've heard.
