AHHH!! I'm sorry if what I said was misinterpreted. I was bashing the word, definitely not the concept!! Thank you to everyone who explained my post, and I didn't mean for anyone to misinterpret that!
As a Sauk person, I can say I personally hate the term showsical as well, and I know I speak for most of my choir. It's too much of a distinction! We have the same challenges as any other show choir, and some added ones that come with our style of performing. By the same token, some things that "traditional" show choirs have to deal with, we don't! So I think that pretty much makes us even!
Now, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think he was bashing "showsicals" but rather the word "showsical" ...I mean where did that word get invented? It's a bit ridiculous. I don't think he was bashing the concept. Instead he was bashing whoever invented the word "showsical". After all, Monona Grove is awfully "showsical"-esque this year.
I do agree with both of you though - the beauty of the show choir art form is that it doesn't have a set definition - it is whatever each school makes it out to be.
If this happens to be the case, my apologies to Patrick. And it is a stupid term, don't know who came up with it.

I believe Adam is right. Patrick wasn't bashing the art of doing a musical as a show, but rather the word "showsical". I mean, it is a pretty stupid word.

The real crime isn't Reedsburg's show. Let's be honest here. It's the word "showsical".
It isn't a big deal whether there show is a "showsical" or not. Both types of show choirs require the same amount of effort so if they want to do a showsical it shouldn't matter
So what if we are a "showsical." Just because we are different doesn't mean we aren't good. Sauk and Mayville make finals more than us (because they are amazing groups and deserve to be there) so why don't we deserve a chance to make them (finals) as well. And if this person doesn't want to "hear a certain 34 letter word again," don't come watch our show. They can sit in the lunchroom or their homeroom. No one is making them sit in the gym and watch us. Watch what you say. Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it doesn't hurt still. It just means you can hide behind your computer. Watch what you say.
Everyone works just as hard to put their shows together. If that were me listening to someone talk smack about my group at an event, I would talk to them face to face, not post some 34 letter comment! Congratulations to your group on doing so well. Don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe in!
Reedsburg is making finals this year... novel idea, I know. It's really too bad that our show now makes people want to "slit their wrists." Just take note that if you really dislike it that much, no one's making you watch. However, plenty of people seem to enjoy it, and that means the world to all of us.

I always get excited when I hear a certain 34 letter word made finals!!!

Well said. I really enjoyed Reedsburg's show this year. I thought it was a lot of fun and definitely thought they deserved to be in finals...
Go Holmen!!
