Captions are given during prelims awards and then they use rankings in finals. That is what they did last year when we went so I'm guessing that is what they did again
That's what I was trying to get at by conjoining the two systems because there were no finals this year...so all the awards were given at the end of the day after one performance from all of the groups, hahah so who knows?!
sorry, beth, but i have no idea what you're saying here. all i know is that we got 5th with 81 points and all the groups ahead of us had one point more than the group placed below them. i haven't seen the score sheet yet so i'll look at that and try to figure out their system. if i have any revelations, i'll let you guys know

For this years Fame Events I wonder if they just combined the 2 into the overall. So using scores for captions, but ranking them for the overall winner?

Bishop Luers got 6th

They only performed once and were scored with that performance. If it was only 4 points, that was a very close contest. They have not made it home to get all of the info from yet. No matter what the placing says, I am so super proud of my kids and all of their hard work. One more time to prove who they are next weekend and then it is on to next year. It has been a great ride this year.

I was very surprised as well. I am not sure how vocals gets overruled by visuals.

And I am not sure how the score sheet is set up but it happens like this:
Group A:
90 pts visuals 80 pts vocals= 170 pts
Group B:
87 pts visuals 81 pts vocals= 168 pts
Group C:
70 pts visuals 90 pts vocals = 160 pts
by scoring Group A wins with Visual, Group B is 2nd and Group C is 3rd with vocals
