Good God the day scores at Great River 2007 were so all over the map. Prairie and Xavier both averaged 5th or 6th I think as far as placings go, Linn-Mar had a 1st, 4th, and a 9th. Crazy competition.

Linn-Mar actually had a 1st, 7th and 9th placing in day round in 07. Prairie had 4, 6, 6 and ended up 8th.

My predictions:

GC: Wheaton
1RU: CR Kennedy
2RU: Linn-Mar
3RU: Waukee
4RU: Iowa City High
5RU: Iowa City West

Wheaton sweep.

Great River 07 was fierce. I vividly remember being a member of Xhilaration and winning GC over Kennedy at Benton the week before GR... and then finishing 7th and missing finals at Great River when Kennedy took GC. It's just he nature of the beast - that competition was stacked. This one will be crazy as well! Good luck to everyone competing, and enjoy it, because getting to perform in the Adler is a treat.

I had you guys in 2nd after prelims. :-/

I'm proud to say I was at all of those, even as an 11 year old boy.
I'd probably have to say my personal favorite would be 2007. It was the first time in a LONG time, and has also been the last time that all of the Cedar Rapids schools were at one competition. From an overall aspect of enjoying my day, I'd probably have to say 2010 was my favorite, because I was dead tired in 03 and 04, and 05 and 07 ran sooooo far behind. Either way, almost every year is a great year at Great River!

Someone said the year that Wheaton won Great River was a down year for Kennedy. I disagree. They still performed to a level that was amazing... Wheaton just was incredible that year as well.
I can't wait to see how this plays out.

That was me but I completely agree with you. I meant that compared to 09 and 11 their show was just lacking. However that year was the year that my Wheaton obsession began. <3 Holy crap they were soooo good. Can't wait to see them live again this year.

I think the most impressive aspect of this competition is not that they have four groups with at least 1 GC but rather that all four of those groups have won EVERY competition they have been to. That being said it's not surprising that all four have won Best Vocals at each of their respective competitions. If there was ever a time to bring a blind person to a show choir competition, this would be the time!

I'm not going to make predictions since Happiness will be there but I know it will be phenomenal and i can't wait to see what happens. I wish all of the groups the best and expect to see great sportsmanship no matter what the outcome.

Think of it this way, if there are 4 groups that have only won GC's, then finishing in 5th place would be comparable to finishing 1RU at most competitions. That is nuts! I hope everyone puts on one heck of a show that they can all be proud of at the end of the day.

05 was the LONGEST COMPETITION OF MY LIFE!!!! Even longer than Fort this weekend (which was too long) Ugh and the theatre nazis wouldn't even let us stand up and talk during that 1.5 hour long award ceremony... Ridiculous.

Also, for your brain, the last time all the CR groups faced each other prior to Great River 07 was Benton 02. But Xavier wasn't really around then so it doesn't quite count. Or at least they didn't make finals if they were there.

Agreed. One thing can be agreed on... Great River NEVER has a "Down" year. Every year is like... "HOLY MOLEY THIS COMPETITION IS AMAZING!"

D-Port -clap clap-.

This IS a highly competitive Great River. However, Is it the best? I'm not so sure. Its extremely top heavy.... but there isn't much depth to the field. 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2010 were also FANTASTIC Great River competitions with a large breadth of competitors.

As for the "Adler Magic" that Kennedy quite often conjures. I've seen this happen time in and time out. Its the nature of the beast... Kennedy LOVES that stage. Something special just exudes from them in this venue. Its indescribable.
