I would like to point out that this year's Great River is a very special one. It's the 5 year anniversary of....
THE PILLARS OF DEATH

Wheaton owns any theater they perform in.

Just my prediction that Kennedy is going to take the GC. There is just something musical about their show that I can't help but love. Their choreography isn't near the level of Wheaton but I think is pretty on-par with Linn-Mar. (I have not seen Waukee live) The four top groups here (again, in my own opinion) will not be able to out-volume each other because each are in very established programs with very very good singing members. I think the winner here will be the most musical and I believe that is Kennedy. However, it could end up the complete opposite of my top four and still be a good placing by the judges. Only time will tell.

This competition is far too complicated for me to predict. But here are my thoughts...

Wheaton and CR Kennedy both haven't competed since Milton/Dav North in the middle of January. They've had about a month to continue cleaning/perfecting their shows and are going to come back even stronger than before. Both have very strong shows.

Linn Mar and Waukee are both riding high after their wins last week. Waukee proved they mean serious business when they beat Ankeny at Urby. Linn Mar's ballad is one of the coolest ballads I've ever heard, and they have awesome soloists!

IC West just received best vocals last week at Benton; very impressive for the caliber of groups there. They have a great show this year, and usually do well here.

IC High has only lost to 2 Iowa groups (Kennedy and Davenport Central, barely losing to Central twice). They turned some heads after their finish at Linn Mar, and also have the potential to peak here. They have the possibility to sneak up on some groups.

Davenport North has improved a TON this year, and could sneak up on everyone as well. They also have an amazing soloist for their closer!

Bettendorf or Wahlert have also done well this season and could snatch a finals spot.

So it's basically open to anything. I truly think that the Adler brings out the best in every group who performs their. Some of the best performances happen this weekend for some reason. Must be the beautiful theatre, and the intensity of the competition! I wish everyone the best of luck! Can't wait!

I know that Wheaton won the last time that they were here but that was definitely a down year for Kennedy. Kennedy basically owns the Adler Theatre with how many times that they have won here.

GC: Kennedy
1ru: Wheaton
2ru: Linn-Mar
3ru: Waukee
4ru: City High
5ru: City West

Best competition to-date in my opinion. The caliber of the groups that are here are just.. insane. Waukee, Linn-Mar, and Kennedy are all top four in Iowa (Urbandale being the other choir) in my opinion and the fact that Wheaton is coming too..? I wasn't planning on going to Great River this year since I went last year but I don't think I have an argument to not go..

Oh, and don't forget that IC West just got Best Vocals at Benton too; not a Grand Championship but still very impressive with all of the great groups there.

Wahlert is always impressive too. City High has been waiting for their peak performance too and I wouldn't be surprised to see it here.

AAAHHH

I totally agree! This competition is going to one of the best this year! The rivalry between Happiness and 10th Street Edition was always a fun one because it pushed both schools to be better than the other, but this year that totally changes since Waukee and WWS are thrown into the mix. Personally I think WWS will come away with the GC but 1RU, 2RU, and 3RU will be between CR Kennedy Happiness, 10th Street Edition, and Waukee. I'm hoping for:
GC-WWS
1RU-LM 10th Street Edition
2RU-CR Kennedy Happiness
3RU-Waukee
4RU- Iowa City High
5RU-Dav. North/IC West
but who knows how it will all play out. It'll be exciting!

I can't wait for this competition! I just hate how it's always the same day as All-State Speech Festival in Ames because they're so far apart

So I try not to be the spelling professor, but this is really bothering me because the group name is misspelled all over this site including on the results page from Muscatine's competition last weekend (and apparently on the Great River schedule on their website).

Waukee's varsity show choir is named Millennium. The word has two n's in it.

/endrant

ANYWAY back on-topic this should be an interesting competition and will definetly tell (through the transverse property) where the eastern half of the state is vs the rest of the state.
