I do not believe prep groups are eligible to make finals here. I also believe that Johnstons prep is now competing ing open class for that very reason. So good luck to them!

From what I know Johnston's prep group was at least 4th place... so to be honest I don't really seeing them getting into finals here. Ovation could pop on in but I wouldn't expect it.

They had an off day at Viterbo in my opinion. That's not to say they will make finals, but expect to see a different group at Gretna. My bet is for Millard and Lewis Central to be 4RU and 5RU (in whatever order) Or maybe higher. We will see on Saturday!
Good Luck to everyone competing!! Can't wait!

I'm gonna follow suit and do what everyone else seems to do and like to see on this site.....aka a PREDICTION
GC:Jefferson(BV,BB)
1RU: Johnston(BC)...super clean at Viterbo and didnt make finals so they will have some fire at this competition
2RU: Prairie....saw them at Viterbo and was very impressed....like VERY impressed
3RU:Ralston
4RU:Millard North....this is what I would call my dark horse group
5RU:Lewis Central

POSSIBLES(could make bottom 2 spots): Jefferson's or Johnston's prep groups, Elkhorn South, Soiux Falls Washington, Marshall

I should probably add a disclaimer......these are my opinions and dont reflect the thoughts of my school or any of our groups in any way shape or form and should not be interpreted as such. If you would like to debate these predictions please PM me because I would prefer not to clutter up this forum. add anything else in your mind that you feel should be put into a disclaimer.

Well, this is going to be my first time going to a competition where I'm not competing. Mainly because it's close, I don't have a competition this Saturday, and I'm going with Ralston friends to cheer on RUSH.

And this is also my first time making predictions, so don't take anything I have to say to heart. Here I go.

Predictions:
GC: Jefferson
1RU: Johnston
2RU: Ralston
3RU: CR Prairie
4RU: Lewis Central
5RU: Elkhorn South (And if Prep groups are able to make finals, Johnston Synergy or Jefferson Ovation)

I haven't yet seen Jefferson this year, but I know they were good last year and can only assume that this has carried over. I saw Johnston at Viterbo and was surprised that they didn't make finals. I personally thought that they had a better show than CR Prairie, which is why I put Johnston ahead. Also, I have a feeling that the Johnston kids have a fire under them after not making finals and will come at this competition with a newfound power.

I feel like CR Prairie and Ralston could flip flop in the 2RU and 3RU spots. Ralston was very good last year and I've heard good things about this year. I think that they could come in strong and get ahead of CR Prairie. But also, because this will be their first competition and CR Prairie has had the chance to compete already this season, CR Prairie has as much of a chance of coming out on top of Ralston.

I was pretty clueless on who to put in the last 2 spots. I know that Lewis Central and Elkhorn South are both good groups and just put Elkhorn South on bottom because they've had less experience as a group. I also wasn't sure if prep groups are able to make finals or not. And if they are, I could easily see Synergy or Ovation making their way into finals because of what I've seen of them in the past.

As I mentioned before, this is my first time making a predictions list, so I am far from being an expert. But I think that this will be a fun competition to watch and I'm excited to see what all of these groups bring to the table.

Predictions:
GC. Cedar Rapids Jefferson
1RU. Johnston
2RU. Cedar Rapids Prairie
3RU. Elkhorn South
4RU. Ralston
5RU. Millard North /Lewis Central

I'm excited to see what CR Jefferson has planned this year and have them pretty solidly as GR. I know that their vocals and their closer really blew me away last year.
The 2nd and 3rd spots could go back and forth in my opinion. I have Johnson above Prairie here simply because i was kinda shocked when they didn't make finals at Viterbo last Saturday, so they will be determined as ever and will probably be working really hard this week. Plus I heard that their choreography was great. So even though Prairie beat them last week, they should really be watching out for them.
The last 3 spots are a big toss up. Elkhorn South came out of nowhere swinging andshower some great things, so if this year isnt very different, they should do well here. Ralston has been working very hard too, and was already looking good in their first showing back in November. Millard North had a solid show last year and Lewis Central did well too so they have a good chance at making it. Along with Blair, Omaha North, Marshall, and Washington. Even one of the good prep groups could make an upset.
Again, this is my opinion, and who really knows in the show choir world. Really excited for this though! :>

Just witness CR Prairie Ambassadors in LaCrosse at VITERBO - an outstanding performance.

I don't know much about the other groups only having seen Ralston and LC a few years back so I am going to make a limited prediction

GC: CR Prairie
1st RU: Johnston
2nd RU: Jefferson

Predictions:
GC. Cedar Rapids Jefferson
1RU. Cedar Rapids Prairie
2RU. Johnston
3RU. Elkhorn South
4RU. Ralston
5RU. Lewis Central

The top three are pretty set in my opinion. And the top three could go any number of ways.

The bottom three is kind of a jumbled mess. I put in Elkhorn South, Ralston, and Lewis Central, but Millard North, Sioux Falls Washington, or one of the Cedar Rapids prep groups could make finals too. I'm not really sure what to expect from Elkhorn South, Ralston, or Millard North, as they kind of came out of (almost) no where to have great seasons last year. I also don't know what to expect from Lewis Central and Sioux Falls Washington, two groups who used to be contenders but have fallen a little in the past couple years.

I expect the top three to be close, a decent drop, then the bottom three to be close.

Good luck to everyone here

I scored Viterbo using a score sheet I made up. I correctly called Linn-Mar and GCS tied in day round, and I correctly predicted westside beating hastings with those scores, so i think the score sheet was pretty accurate. i personally had johnston 5th in day round beating prairie by .5 but all our group was undecided on which was better.

they are two very close shows. prairie sings better than johnston, but johnston dances better. i was personally very unhappy johnston didn't make finals at viterbo. i thought they deserved it.

Totally random, those top 4 could go anywhere, I could see Ralston, Prairie, Johnston, or Jefferson come out and get GC in my opinion. Prarie is strong this year, the beat Johnson at Viterbo, but new competition, new judges. Anything could happen here! All I can say is that it will be really fun!! Break legs everyone!

But this competition isn't late in the season. It's early. And that typically has played to Prairie's strengths in the past, even though they have a different director now (who is very talented and experienced). And since when did transitive properties apply to show choir competitions? Groups perform differently at different competitions....

My problem with your quote is you said that according to results last year, those two groups would be "easily above" Prairie. I was just pointing out that according to head-to-head results at this competition last year, that statement is inaccurate.

I understand and do believe Prairie will do well here. They're one of those groups that start hot and fall into the middle as the season goes on.

And I'm sorry you mistook my original quote. I should have been clearer in my words. My bad. When I said that Ralston would finish above Prairie, I went by where they finished the year last year, not the early competitions (including results from this competition specifically).

Haha trying to shift my mind from college football to show choir. Gotta clear out the bugs.

Ralston struggled in this competition last year. But after this competition, Ralston went on to defeat groups easily that defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie (Iowa City West, Lincoln Southwest). If Ralston and CR Priairie would have met late in the season, Ralston wouldn't have had any troubles with them.

Well Prairie beat Ralston and Elkhorn South at this very competition last year, so I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that....

But my comment that you quoted has less to do with the head to head competition of the said groups and more with the fact that Ralston and Elkhorn South lost a lot of amazing people from last years groups and I'm not sure what to expect from them this year.

Nebraska is a big question mark this year. Last year almost every Nebraska group was leaps and bounds above what they had been in the past. But most of them were senior-loaded groups. The big question is if the seniors had the talent or if they pushed some of it off on the underclassmen. I'm excited to see how each group responds.

If it were last year, I'd Have Ralston and Elkhorn South in the discussion for top four and easily above CR Prairie.

SF Washington, Synergy, Ovation, possibly a Marshall or Millard North. Idk. I haven't ever seen Elkhorn South, Ralston, Marshall or Millard North so idk really.
Sioux Falls Washington is down. Their 2008/2009 shows were great but the past couple years they have just fallen a little.

Elkhorn South was a brand new school this past year and a brand new group. But they came into the scene with a bang finishing above groups like Grand Island Northwest, Ralston, Lewis Central, Millard North, etc.

Ralston last year was one of the best in Nebraska and personally my favorite show of all time. They finished the season with two grand championships, but their biggest (moral) victory was at Sioux City East. They finished third runner up, but a various judges had them ahead of Westside, CR Jefferson, Johnston, etc. (That competition ended up being very close.) But they lost a lot from their group so I think it's going to be a rebuilding year kind of.

Marshall isn't anything really so don't worry about them. They're a mediocre group from Minnesota. They have the potential (and $$$) to do well but they haven't yet.

Millard North came out last year as a pretty decent group. Great diction. In prelims at Westwood they were above groups like Lewis Central and Gretna but I don't really know how to judge that because they were having kinda down years.

If it were last year, I'd Have Ralston and Elkhorn South in the discussion for top four and easily above CR Prairie. But with what they lost I'm not really sure what to expect. Last year was a very, very strong Nebraska year.

This competition will be really good! If i didn't hate the trip to Nebraska it would be one on my list to see. Random predictions (probably not right, don't get mad, especially when I haven't seen anyone yet)

GC: CR Jefferson
1RU: Johnston
2RU: Cedar Rapids Prairie
3RU: Elkhorn South
4RU: Ralston
5RU: Lewis Central

Idk was hard for me to pick the bottom 3. i think these will be the 3, though i think Ralston will probably be in 6th after day cuz of their time slot and the others. Also definitely could see other groups in finals- SF Washington, Synergy, Ovation, possibly a Marshall or Millard North. Idk. I haven't ever seen Elkhorn South, Ralston, Marshall or Millard North so idk really.

This competition is going to be extremely competitive. A lot of the groups here have kind of struggled the past couple years and are looking to return to what they were. Other groups are coming off great years and are looking to repeat and/or even improve. I wish I could make it down to this one. I'll post my predictions a little later.
