Bbean, you never need to apologize for believing in yourself and your group. I hope you guys do your very best this weekend. My motto in life is "Don't worry about being better than anyone else...just be better than yourself."

Don't feel bad. Okay, maybe a little . But everyone has pride in their own group. It's how we are. We have faith in ourselves and believe we are good. It's not bad that you believe in your group. It's just on a public forum such as this one, even if you're humbly saying it with full compassion, it typically comes off as cocky and arrogant.

Everyone here will do spectacular. I only wish I didn't have a choir concert that afternoon so I could see prelims! I REALLY want to see finals and I think I'm going to make it happen because this is one EXCITING competition.
As for predictions, I'm pretty sure any prediction made will be wrong. This competition will go any way it wants to go - the groups here are strong and it'll be a fight to even get a spot in finals. The finals competition will be a battle royale.
I'm getting myself too excited for my own good - it's only Wednesday!
I predict each group will try their hardest to but on the best show possible this weekend. I also predict the judges will like some groups better than others. Finally, I predict that I will get up really early, ride a bus for a really long time, cheer for my groups, laugh a lot, enjoy watching other groups perform, make memories with our students, meet new people, and have fun.
And that's the only prediction that counts for anything, in my book.
Ok I may sound like a jerk here but I have developed a pet peeve on this site....it is when people claim that their group should be higher up on peoples PREDICTIONS. Predictions are opinions. I really don't mean to be rude but below atsc, mitchell and papio. The only other groups were westsides womens and prep group who while yes are good you can't really use them as measuring sticks for a varsity group. I will now get off of my "rant box" and go to bed because I had a long day at work and will probably regret this post when I wake up tomorrow. I'm guess 6 thumbs down
Agreed. If you have a problem where people think you'll be placed, prove them wrong on the stage.
Not trying to say everyone is wrong or that we are like, extremely amazing, but Papillion La vista, although being 8th at Westside and then going to Ralston and getting 2RU might seem like we got better. And yes, Ralston had some very good groups (Westside and Mitchell) we won a strong 2RU behind and above very strong groups. Just sayin, don't count Papillion La Vista out too early, we have a strong show this year and have a TON of potential here at BH

This is going to be a great competition. No "big names", but a very even playing field between good groups.
There will be many different ways this competition can go so my predictions are going to be way wrong.
GC. Pella
1RU. Ralston
2RU. Westwood
3RU. Papillion La Vista
4RU. LeMars
5RU. Lewis Central
Honestly I could see almost any of these groups moving up to grand champion. Pella has a GC at a competition with similar difficulty to this one. Ralston has kind of been hit or miss this year. Papillion La Vista finished 2RU behind two big names, but the competition wasn't difficult at all and I heard they weren't too far in front of Westside's prep groups. Lewis Central has struggled thus far but this will be a good competition to get back on track.
My two unknowns are Westwood and LeMars. Neither has competed yet this year. I saw LeMars at State contest and they are much better than last year when they missed finals here. Westwood is always fantastic behind Mr. Gerking and I don't think that will change.
Other possible finalists will be Hinton, Sioux Center, and Blair.
I think this competition will be super, super close across the board. I don't see anyone running away with the GC.
I really wish I could be there for this one. I'll be checking SCC constantly from my motel in Colorado
Good luck to everyone here! I'm very excited to see how it plays out.
Here's the schedule for Heelan's Quad State Showcase
(I feel like I'm disclosing a state secret or something by posting this, but hopefully this sparks some discussion...looks like a competitive list!)
Excited to see all these groups. We had Hinton at Dutch Masters 2 years ago, and saw Atlantic at DC-G, but other than that, I don't think we've ever competed with or seen most of these groups (we tend to stay more Eastern Iowa for our comps, so this is an exciting trip for our groups). Best of luck to everyone, and we are looking forward to taking the stage on Saturday!
okay, so there are 3 different times on this, which one is performance time??

Ugh, finally! You're the best! I know I've been dying for a schedule. Thank you!
Ok, this line-up is pretty similar to the one last year. A couple of pretty good groups, no real powerhouses. Still, this competition looks to be VERY exciting.
I'm going to go out on a limb and make some predictions:
GC: Ralston
1RU: Pella
2RU: Westwood
3RU: Pap-LV
4RU: Lewis Central
5RU: Le Mars
There are 4 groups in this list that have competed and have made finals at some competition. Ralston hasn't placed as well this year as they have last year but considering the groups they've competed against this year, they seem to be doing alright. Ralston won Heelan last year so I'm assuming they'll do well here again.
Pella has a GC at West Liberty but then also didn't make finals at Benton but the groups at the two were quite different. Pella is always pretty good though so they'll probably be a strong contender here.
Westwood hasn't competed yet this season. Though they've been pretty strong in the past, they scratched out of the Iowa State Show Choir Contest. I'm not sure if they weren't ready to perform yet or whatnot, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt since they have been very good in the past, last year especially.
Pap-LV seems to be doing well this season. They finished 8th place of Omaha Westside and 2RU in finals at Ralston this weekend. I'm sure they'll continue growing and have a strong showing.
Lewis Central hasn't been doing particularly well this season. I don't think they'll place any higher than 4RU.
Le Mars is the other group that hasn't competed yet. They've had a couple of local performances this season and I've heard nothing but good things about this group (Ethan Price ). But coming off last season, I'm just not sure.
I could also see Blair/Sioux Center/Hinton sneaking in there. Blair beat Le Mars for finals here last year in a tie-breaker. Sioux Center has been turning into a competitive group in the last few years and Hinton usually does well here.
This is going to be an EXCITING day! Good luck to all the groups coming to Heelan!

I remember Heelan never gives out their schedule to the public till, like, last minute. I'll be in contact with a few Le Martians this week to see what they know and can post the schedule.
