Whether there's an error or not, I completely trust the folks at Lin-Marr. Bob Anderson runs a program with TREMENDOUS integrity and class, so if there's an error it'll be addressed and corrected. So many competitions around the nation use a variety of evaluation methods for scoring, so sometimes a perceived error isn't really an error when the rules are examined. I have no idea if this is or isn't the case, just that it's always a possibility.

The only time I've ever been to Lin-Marr they were terrific hosts to the judges. I even remember April James and I passing "judges cookies" to Adam Peters and somebody else!

Damon... It's L I N N M A R.

And yes... I remember that day vividly. It was the day I met Nick Oswsld for the first time and he asked me to come in and work with a group called Muscatine... And the rest is history!

Linn Mar rocks! I'd love to return someday.

just a few thoughts and opinions from the day won't be super in depth cause my brain is fried

Cedar Rapids Washington Celebration- I could go on a mini rant on here and I know none of you read this but I just want to say how happy and proud I am! This was a wonderful show and you guys REALLY performed in your exhibition performance. I was so impressed, the opener is one of my favorite openers from GCS 06. I love that Weaver is your choreographer ! Vocals were great choreo was so clean and the closer was a ton of fun. Lost some energy at the end but I couldn't be any happier for you guys!! Way to bring back the Celebration that I was in...its been a few years since you've been at the competitive level that the prep groups demand here in Iowa. Thank you Ryan for doing a great job with them and can't wait to see what is to come!

Kennedy- I knew you were going to win in finals by the end of your first song. You have this giant wall of sound and it isn't shouty! Its wonderful. your choreography and cleanliness was crazy for this early in the year with what Damon gave you. I was extremely impressed. My only "knock" would be how the closer is pretty much carbon copy from last year as far as the first part goes(minus how the solo starts). It's done extremely well and each year is different especially as scoring goes but I would have liked to see something different as a observer you has seen you year after year.

Bemidji- WOW. I love the show this year! (As I do every year) but something about this show was a lot better for me. I'll be honest and didn't understand the theme at all this year BUT i loved the show. I would say for the opener I don't feel the racing flag on the back of the jackets do much.. i undestand it but I feel it was a bit unnecessary. This is the best I've ever seen bemidji look. You had some very fun choreo and good vocals. A very solid 2nd and wouldn't have been surprised if you had won best choreo because you guys were so clean yesterday!

Xavier- I had you guys in 3rd for the day. Very solid show. I really like the opener, I woke up singing it this morning. Very clean and good singing. I think the male ballad soloist should have won best male soloist, he had a great sound and I really thought he improved from last week at Xavier. Congrats to you guys and I may be seeing you at Muscatine!

IC High- Great opener lots of energy.. your band just kills it! Throughout the whole show the band makes a lot of the energy for you guys. I'll be frank and after the ballad I just lost focus on the show... a bit chaotic for me. It wasn't a bad show by any means I just might have to see it again to fully get it. Oh and I really liked the ballad!

Momentum- Obviously new director and new choreographer! I really enjoyed the show. You guys improved a lot from day to night and in my opinion made the biggest improvements between day and night. A lot of little things cleaned up and I know you have a lot to work on when you go back to work on monday. I really enjoyed the show, ballad was beautiful and I am excited to see how it goes. You guys were ahead of where you were last year so congrats... you made finals this year here! Oh and I can honestly say this is the first time in while i like the costumes for you guys.

Davenport North- first of all... closer soloist you KILLED IT!!! I cant wait to see you again this year cause I loved it The show was a little slow for me ... it was clean and vocals were good. I wouldn't say the choreography was at the level of some of the other groups, but the show was very solid. Great ballad, soloists were wonderful! The closer really brought the energy, I just wish the show had a bit more energy overall.

***again my opinion and what I thought if you have any questions about what I said or any in depth responses just please PM me, I will gladly respond to you!***

If the rumors are true about a scoring error, what happens? Does Linn-Mar reannounce to the directors the correct rankings? Has this happened before? I had a feeling something was wrong when it took them about 30-45 minutes to get the final results figured out.

I've heard rumors of a scoring error at this competition that ended up having the wrong results announced after finals. Again just a rumor, and what I have heard would not affect the Grand Champion, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

From the score sheet that was seen by Jay and other people something isn't adding up exactly. I didn't see the score sheets but I've heard from multiple people that there were some MAJOR inconstancies with what directors got and what was announced.

Again nothing is solid but I know directors weren't given the scores/rankings/whatever was used for all of the groups (which I personally don't agree with) so its hard to dig into what system was used for results.

*shrug* I hope somebody can explain everything.

And final awards took forever to get results

As far as finals go and overall scores. Kennedy got four first place votes and a second place vote, and Bemidji got one first place vote, three second place votes, and one third place. i didn't see city highs score or any other choirs but thats why city high didn't finish in 2nd

Ok. I have a question. And I know it's a little early for this question, but it has me completely baffled and I know there must be some reasonable explanation for it.

I saw the finals composite scores. What I read was Iowa City High was 2nd in vocals and 2nd in choreography. So why did they not get 2nd? There were other groups that had completely different composite scores from their placings. I'm just really really confused, and maybe I just need to review the scores at a later date and they will make sense, but I just literally cannot fathom how this would be possible... Is there an "other" category? I would suggest it was because of band scores, but City High clearly had the best band at the competition, and would not be brought down 2 spots because of their band. This was my first time seeing scores from Supernova, so maybe I just missed something. Idk, someone PLEASE explain it to me, because my mind is racing.

Best Female Solo: Davenport North (I'm assuming the closer soloist, Danielle Porter)

OMG DANIELLE KILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLED IT!!!!! Plus she is an amazingly sweet young woman! Absolutely deserved Best Female Solo.

Way to go Happiness! What a great start to your year! Lots of stuff to tighten up and fix, but a great way to begin the season. Also a very solid start City High! Heard the band really rocked it!
God Bless, Damon
