What a great day. Hinton is always one of the closest competitions out there as it showcases great 3A/2A talent from around the area.

Carroll - It was really depressing watching you guys in finals because the first three rows were empty. Not a well traveled choir? I couldn't understand the soloists in your opener. The vocals and dynamics were good throughout the show. The band kept hitting awkward drum hits. They didn't match the choreography or vocals. It was just weird. I liked the opening for Earth Song with you guys starting out laying down, though the choreography was a little messy. The quartet of ladies were fantastic. The ballad vocals were great. But what was weird was the ballad came right before the closer. It was my first time seeing the ballad outside of the 2nd or 3rd song slot. Closer: Freebird. Sounded exactly like the Attache arrangement. Dance breaks and vocals were pretty good. Congratulations on making finals again at Hinton!

Sioux Center - Where did you guys come from? I've seen you at Heelan and Westwood and you guys did not do well. But your vocals and choreography tonight was FANTASTIC. Congratulations on your finish!

LeMars - I love you guys. It's getting to the point where I don't know a lot of you, but I love you no matter what. The first half of your show is what brings you down. The vocals are quiet and the diction isn't good. Both things you guys know. Choreography is clean throughout the show. THE BALLAD. Anyway - WheatonWarrenville arrangement. Favorite song of the day. You guys got everyone in the gym involved in the song. Guy sound is FANTASTIC. And when you hit that a capella section... you have everyone sold. I almost teared up. Katelyn, the beginning part of the solo isn't good because you're out of breath. But the ending part of the solo is great. The girls only part was weak during daytime but good at night. The guy song is fantastic. Zach Reed doing the backflip. LOVE IT. And the closer is also fantastic. Congratulations on making finals and don't hang your head on this season. You guys worked hard and we're all extremely proud of you. <3

Center Point Urbana - You guys have a new fan! Your finals show sounded and looked amazing. I loved the showcase of vocals at the beginning of the show. Beautiful. I felt diction lacked a bit, but other than that the vocals were fantastic. In the girls number (I think) I didn't understand why there was a girl soloist when all she did was "vocalize". It just didn't seem to fit. The closer was my favorite. The a capella section was fantastic. Your choreography in finals was extremely crisp and great. I honestly considered putting you guys 1RU in my predictions. I loved your show SO MUCH. Congratulations on your finish! Hope to see you back at Hinton in the future!

Westwood - I sat by the mother of Aaron something. We're bff's now. She was super nice and I had a great time talking with her. What can I say about you guys? The choreography is great. Vocals are meh throughout (not bad but not great) but the choreography makes up for it. You guys were a lot better in night time than day time, except I felt that the closing few second of your finals show.. that something went wrong? It just seemed off. Congratulations on a great performance. First time you guys haven't won this competition. But you guys had great sportsmanship. GOOD LUCK AT FAME ORLANDO.

Bishop Heelan - WHAT THE. Where did you guys come from? You guys made a lot of progress between last week at Westwood. It was like a completely different group. Clean choreography, great vocals, awesome band. The show is so much fun. You had some troubles in daytime with technicalities of the show, but everything was flawless in finals. The duet was, like always, amazing and well deserving of best male/female solo. My cousin Becca once again had a GREAT solo. Just all around a fun, great show. Congratulations on your grand championship

After daytime I had it.
1. Bishop Heelan
2. Westwood
3. Center Point Urbana
4. LeMars
5. Sioux Center
6. Carroll

After Finals I had it
1. Bishop Heelan
2. Westwood
3. LeMars
4. Center Point Urbana
5. Sioux Center
6. Carroll

Funny, I had LeMars and CPU switched both times

Another Hinton in the books, but for the first time "Rebelaires" isn't listed as the "Grand Champion". This competition was extremely close and super competitive. Hinton runs a great competition with a lot of fun games between groups. I will continue to come back to this competition happily!

Congratulations to all groups. Everyone did FANTASTIC.

You beat me to it Ethan. I was typing it on my phone!
Sorry! I just got home from the competition so I jumped on my laptop. I feel bad because typing ALL that out on your phone must have been a very huge task! Congratulations on your finish. I really, really enjoyed your show.

but center point urbana won grand champion at west liberty
ur right it is going to be good though

It's going to be a very close competition regardless. I just don't see Westwood losing their title this year. They almost beat Ralston at Heelan and they finished great at Lewis Central. They've already beat Heelan and LeMars. Center Point has beat Heelan already. LeMars beat Carroll in January. But none of these groups have competed against each other for a while so it's going to be great to see how each group has progressed. I cannot wait for this one. Good luck to everyone! I plan on leaving LeMars at around 1 so I'll get there about 1:15. I expect the top 4 or 5 spots to be very, very close, which is usually the case at this competition. Reminds me of my senior year when Westwood, LeMars, Center Point Urbana, Carroll, and Emmetsburg all competed here. One of the closest competitions I ever competed in.

My guess is Westwood sweep. (Even though this competition only gives best band). This competition is like it its 5th year of existence, and Westwood has won each year decently easily (except the past two years, two very close finishes with LeMars, especially 2009). This is also a good year for Westwood so far, too.

Predictions (Past finishes at this competition)
GC. Westwood (GC Every year competing here)
1RU. Center Point Urbana (Finished 2RU here in 2009 behind LeMars and Westwood)
2RU. Bishop Heelan (First time competing here)
3RU. LeMars (1RU in 10, 09, 2RU in 08)
4RU. Carroll (3RU in 10, 2RU in 09, 1RU in 08)
5RU. Sioux Center (2RU in 2010)

I could see Heelan taking 1RU and honestly even grabbing the GC if they have a lights out show and Westwood doesn't. I haven't seen Center Point obviously but I'm excited they're coming back. I could see them finishing anywhere in the top three but I dont think they'll finish lower than that. 3RU at the absolute lowest and only if something major goes wrong. LeMars is struggling this year which is really sad to see as an alumni and after the success the group has had the past three years. But I know them and I know what they can do. So I wouldn't be surprised if they placed higher than my 3RU. Carroll has had a good season, so I could also see them placing above LeMars. Sioux Center is down this year, but I still feel they're better than the other groups competing.

Gonna be a great, close competition with a lot of awesome smaller schools! Can't wait!

My mother is a secretary for Wiltgen Construction in LeMars, and they are currently building the new parts of Hinton High School. Hinton asked them to donate money to help with this competition, and they donated over 100 dollars so they got two free wristbands to this competition. Since they don't go to show choir, they gave them to me! YAY free admission!

First time in a few years I didn't start this competition

Great to see Center Point Urbana coming back! They came here my senior year and we battled with them. I loved their show.
Also good to see Harmonia Mundi coming for the first time.
Westwood has won this competition every year here, and I believe they are the favorite again. They're having a great year.
LeMars and Carroll seem to be having down years this year so hopefully they can both turn it around for this competition.

Predictions on finalists:
Westwood "Rebelaires"
Center Point-Urbana "Summit Street Singers"
Bishop Heelan "Harmonia Mundi"
Carroll "Swingsations"
LeMars "Crimson and Black"
Sioux Center "Satisfaction"
