The Adler truly is a fantastic performance venue. The one weird thing I remember about it is having to remember to play up to the judges who sit on the balcony. I was so used to judges being straight out and basically level with the stage that it was a pretty big adjustment!

They started putting the judges in the balcony in '07, I believe... before that, they were in the lower bowl.

The home spots are great for meeting people. Usually they have parents standing protecting items when schools are not in the "Airplane Hanger" so nothing is stolen.

The question is this- Would you rather have a gymnasium for your performance but have homerooms? OR a beautiful 2,400 seat theatre with great acoustics and views but "home spots"?

I'll go with the theatre.

I've always enjoyed the set up they have for "home rooms", you always meet so many cool and interesting people, and its fun to interact with everyone. The only thing that makes me nervous is leaving my things in the square...

Great River is one of my fav competitions, though one thing I have never liked and still don't is the "home room" or home squares they have, especially when it's on the far side of the area lol. I don't like how it's all out in the open, I like mine in rooms But regardless, a great competition.

I know nothing about Great River, so I have nothing else to say. Sorry... lol.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?! As a soon-to-be 17-year-old, you NEED to experience Great River. It was my favorite competition the years we went there when I was in school, and this will be my 4th time attending as a spectator. It is held in the wonderful Adler Theater and always is VERY competitive and VERY fun. I notice y'all aren't competing anywhere that weekend. You should take a road trip down (granted I know it's 5+ hours, but it will be a lot of new groups for you and it would be a BLAST)

To get the topic back on course- I'm thrilled that Reedsburg and Sauk Prairie are returning. I think its fun that their shows are "GODSPELL" and "JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR".

I truly don't mean to be rude, but no one here is attacking you for anything you say or do, you shouldn't attack others, even if you think the account is fake. I currently am a member of 4th Avenue Jazz Company from Iowa City City High, and I personally don't think that any of our members, friends, fans, or family would do anything like that. We are all very proud of our school, and our group. We don't need fake accounts.

Secondly, I believe this forum is about Great River, so lets try to keep it focused on that.

Again, I'm not trying to be rude, but I think this has gone a little too far. If you two want to continue this, please do it somewhere else.

Thanks

I have great respect for the City High program. I just want to make sure this poster is REAL. Too many times in the past, people have gotten by with posing as someone that they are not. I know my tactics aren't always the most "PC". But, I've never been wrong in the past. If I'm wrong now, I'll gladly apologize to "RogerDiaz". But, I do agree. This is a forum about Great River, so I will apologize for getting it off topic. Especially since its my former high school's comp. But... I'd still love to hear the answers to the questions I posed. I mean, I think its exciting that a grad student has found so much interest in show choir without any experience besides a cousin in it.

Alright, I'm stepping in, and probably overstepping my bounds as a snotty 16-year-old (soon-to-be-17, for the record) who somehow earned the status of SCC "Staff", whatever that is.
Please stop interrogating Mr. Diaz, we do NOT need to scare off people with a legitimate interest in show choir who may just not have actually done it in high school. Although I can see where you are coming from, you are taking this way too far. I have seen nothing hostile or "troll"-esque in his post history so far, so let's just let sleeping dogs lie, please? Mr. Diaz is now validated as an unassociated observer, just like several other notable members of SCC who manage to contribute decent thoughts to discussions despite their unassociated-ness.

I know nothing about Great River, so I have nothing else to say. Sorry... lol.

Agreed. There are plenty of people on SCC that are unassociated. There are even those we know are alums of schools that are still unassociated, and yet no one says anything to them. Just because you don't agree with everything they say doesn't meant they don't deserve to be on here.

And evidence? Wow are we having a trial here now? You guys are the ones searching out trolls but now you have become them yourselves.

Back to the topic. I LOVE GREAT RIVER!!!! And it looks like I can come all day now!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also what is your bachelors degree in- where did you get it from? What are you doing in grad school? What show choir was your cousin in?

RogerDiaz,

"jorge" has brought up a valid point. We ask that you are affiliated with a choir while posting on the boards. He has a very valid point about your posts... most have been affiliated with Iowa City High one way or another.

So please don't be offended when he asks these things because they are the rules, and the evidence isn't in your favor.

Thanks

I told you-from chicago. I'm interested in show choir because I have a cousin who did it in High School and because I think it's entertaining. I don't really know Iowa City High so well... I've just seen them on YouTube. And I don't prefer them over others. Actually, they're not even one of my favorite groups.

Cool cool. Who are your favorite show choirs? What competitions have you attended in the past?

Interesting. Where do you hail from originally? What got you interested in show choir? You've seemed to stay up to date with the Iowa City high schools- why do you prefer them over other choirs?

I'm really not trying to be too much of an ass about this- I just hate when people fabricate a username to post "secretly" their thoughts, comments, or positions. I can spot it a mile away.
Well obviously I am NOT one of those people. Seriously I'm rather offended with this. The point of this website is to discuss show choir, and you're not very welcoming. Please, leave me alone.

I've had no affiliation with Iowa City High in my life... I'm a college grad student here at DePaul University in Chicago and grew up here. Don't accuse people Jorge unless you know what's going on...

So Roger, what school are you associated with? My guess is Iowa City High.
