Haakon,

I believe the name of the Outstanding Female Soloist from Prelims that you are looking for is:

Carissa Dizan - St. Genevieve Valiant Voices,

and was she ever outstanding!

Thanks, Deci!

It's been added.

All of those awards are now reflected properly above, with the one exception of one of the winners for best female soloist during the prelim round (we don't know who it was). If anyone has that information, we would be happy to add it.

That information is on the showchoirnationals.com homepage

I know that in finals Opelika received 3 6th place votes and 2 3rd place votes from Fehr and Monniger.

Does anyone have the complete rankings? I know BG got all 1's

Thank you Haakon!!

We appreciate you so very much for keeping us informed of all of these competitions. I know this is hard work.

One other item that should be corrected...Pascagoula received the Best Set Crew award for PRELIMS!!!!

AGAIN....thanks

You can blame that on me. I was told by my source from Nashville that we got Best Crew. But I wouldn't put it past them to be incorrect.

If lashings are required, I will take them with dignity.

CONGRATULATIONS to show choir NATIONALS on a job WELL DONE!!!!

I would like to express my thanks to Daryl Ussery, Derrick Ussery, Blair Ussery, and their team for probably the best run competition that I have been to in a long time.

From the moment we signed up to be a participant, Daryl Ussery was there to walk us through the entire process. He is so personable and helpful. I watched him throughout the three day competition and saw that he does not meet a stranger and treats all the same way.

When we arrived at the Opryland Hotel, the team was there to meet and greet us and welcome us to the competition. The Hotel was amazing and truly a highlight of the event as all choirs stayed there and were able to visit with each other during the afternoons and evenings. That was so great because most of these students know each other from SCA and other camps!!! The service at the hotel was marvelous.

The Opryhouse where the competition takes place was incredible. I can say that it was so exciting to my kids to know that they had "opened" for Carrie Underwood that afternoon in competition since she would be performing that evening!!!HAHAHA!!

The backstage unloading was indeed a breeze!! So easy and the crew was so helpful and nice....true southern hospitality!!! The warmup area was the first time that I have ever been able to roll the drum dolly in and rehearse with the entire band plugged in!!! HOW FABULOUS!!!!!

The ease of moving onstage to perform from the warmup area was by far the best situation I have ever encountered!! So easy and so stress-free!!!

Then after performance the loading back to the equipment room was the same.

I thank Attache and the hosts for being so well-informed and knowing what was going on!! They had all the answers and if they did not, they would get it and immediately let me know the answer!

And the atmosphere was one of class and composure compared to others. I enjoyed the dignified awards ceremony. As a director, I believe that our students should be taught how to behave in all situations and to RISE to the occasion with class!!

The Wild-Horse Saloon was an excellent way to end the competition. This is a fun place where all the choirs can relax and dance and the food was wonderful!!!

THANK YOU DARYLL and family for this outstanding weekend!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Buffalo Grove for GRAND CHAMPION and to TOTINO GRACE for 1st runner up!!! Jackson Prep was honored to be in the company of such fine show choirs as we placed 2nd runner-up to these outstanding choirs!!

I can tell you JACKSON PREP LOVED this and we will be back!!!!!

The Best Female and Male Sound Award are given way during the Preliminary Performances. These awards are in no way, shape, or form associated with the final performances. Both of these are two sections in the Vocal Category of the score sheet. They total 20 points out of a possibly 120 points in the Vocal Section on the score sheet.

Regarding the whole debate about whether Totino or Buffalo Grove should have won: I don't know if the people commenting were actually at the competition on Saturday morning during Finals, but it was very clear after Finals who the winning group would be. Buffalo Grove received all first place votes from a panel comprised of Dave Fehr, John Baker, Sue Moniger, Stephen Todd, and one other judge. Totino received all second place votes. The Show Choir Nationals uses a ranking system in finals for all categories and placements. BG receieved all first place votes from every judge in both Vocals and Choreo, while Totino received all first place votes in both the captions it won, Combo and Overall Effect.

Hmmmm... I have never seen Totino live but I'm a hugebfan of buffalo grove. Based on what I have seen live, YouTube, and hearing about other first hand accounts:
GC:Totino/ Buffalo
1RU: Totino/ Buffalo
2RU: Jackson Prep (they beat Opelika and Pascagoula pretty soundly at homewood)
3RU:Homestead/ Edgewood
4RU: Homestead/ Edgewood
5RU: Opelika/ Pascagoula

Also the 3rd 4th and 5th runner ups could swap. Opelika is the only show choir I have seen besides Auburn to have "swagger" it's awesome.

My bracket might have been horrible this year but BOOM. Called that.

Also please clarify the crew award from Prelims someone please. I have heard at prelims best crew went to Pascagoula Impact, but the site says at prelims it went to Edgewood?

Okie dokie,

Thanks to some alumni help, I've cleared some of this up a bit.

Show Choir Nationals awarded two awards each for best male and female soloist for the prelims round, and one award each for best male and female soloist during the finals round.

They also awarded one award each for best male and female performer during prelims, and one award each for best male and female performer during finals.

Thus there are a total of three best male soloists for the entire day, three female soloists for the entire day, two best male performers for the entire day, and two best female performers for the entire day.

All of those awards are now reflected properly above, with the one exception of one of the winners for best female soloist during the prelim round (we don't know who it was). If anyone has that information, we would be happy to add it.

Additionally, we are still missing the placements for the daytime round; if anyone has that information, we can add it as well (we do not post scores on SCC, but we do post placements).

Hopefully this clears up some of the confusion. Yes, I think this is needlessly complicated, but that is how they presented the awards and we do our best to maintain accurate results. Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to clarify your position. I apologize if my post was reactionary; it's just very frustrating to work hard on something and then hear "why isn't it right?" from an anonymous person - especially someone who was at the event and probably knows what went down a lot better than we do. I agree that the awards are sometimes needlessly complex, and it is a challenge for us to deal with the information as well. We do the very best we can.

If you could speak to a staff or crew member about getting your name updated, I would appreciate it.

To Ms. Holbert, I will get the information you provided added right away. Thank you for helping us complete our records.

Thank you for the reply Haakon, but i think something is getting lost in the translation here. I love the work you and your team do and I respect the amount of time it must take to keep up with show choir on the national scene. I havent commented on the site before because I use it all the time and find it very useful.

I was at the Opry all weekend, and I found the awards announcements confusing. Yes, I can imagine they were for you and your staff as well. As a mere show choir fan, with no access to judges scoresheets, scoring systems, etc., I was merely looking to SC.com as a beacon of light and as a means to raise the issue and to get it corrected/confirmed as needed.

After reading the above, I would like to add to the comment.

Best Set Crew during finals was awarded to Jackson Prep.

And, show choir Nationals awarded the Allen and Sandy Chapman National Director of Excellence Award to Dianne Holbert, Jackson Prep.

I was so very humbled by this award! I appreciate show choir Nationals and the Ussery family for an amazing weekend. It was so well run and they were fabulous hosts! Thank you from Jackson Prep.

Could you make the corrections on your list above? Thanks!
