Without having seen Buffalo Grove, I know that their show - especially vocals - must have been absolutely lights out for them to win. Congrats!

company should have one. that is quite apparent. oh well, buffalo groove was good too. . . But if you win best female and male sound. have the best performers and the best soloist. and the band and the best general effect that pretty much says all.

Best Male and Female sound are two 10 point categories on the score sheet. Together, with things like diction, blend, and dynamics they make up the total "Vocal" category.

BG won best vocals because over the whole category they had a higher score, meanwhile TG had higher scores in, for all we know, only those two individual categories.

Obviously solos mean jack for overall scoring, they are just an effort to recognize individual performers.

Well since no one else would rather correct stupid errors than voice their opinion i guess i shall repost. . .

As much as I love Totino Grace you have to look at it this way-
a single soloist ISN'T the show. So because you win those awards doesn't mean you are going to take home GC.
Band is another caption, you can have the best band but not be the best OVERALL group.
And same thing with general effect, if you have props or a good show design you can win that OVERALL effect, but not be the best at the individual captions

And as mr. temple pointed out, they may use NON-SCORING observers (don't really want to call them judges per-say) to give those captions away instead of going off scores, but that does bring up a valid point as to why have those captions then.

That is not quite the case. In 2009 Franklin Central won GC at Fame Orlando with no captions, over Mt Zion. Little bit of controversy there. But I have been under the assumption that Best Vocals, Best Choreography normally brings home the big Trophy.
Congrats to Buffalo Grove, Totino Grace and the rest of the competing show choirs. I am sure it was an extremely tense and obviously VERY close Competition.

Way to go Jackson Prep on doing so well against these groups! Good job in representing the South! I can't wait to see what is in store for the future for Reveillon (and goodbye to Totino's winning streak....it was a good run! Good luck at FAME!).

I'm going to write a formal proposal to the city of Buffalo Grove, IL to change their name to Buffalo Groove. Thanks for the great idea!

ok! that makes sense... wasn't trying to make it sound like there was a scandal, was just really confused.

Last year Urbandale got best male sound and tied Burbank for best female sound and were nowhere near first in vocals. I think SCN has a separate judge that doesn't do general scoring and just selects captions like best male performer, best female performer, best male sound, best female sound, best male soloist, best female soloist, etc.

I was told something, and I guess i am SLIGHTLY confused-

Totino won best male and female sound.
yet... they are SECOND in vocals?
how does that work?

Buffalo Grove has a third gender which absolutely blew away Totino's third gender.

Sir,
you never cease to amuse me

Thanks for that.

I had the same question, I am GUESSING their overall sound was not as solid but separately the genders were strong?
