As far as I'm concerned, Karla Goettel is professional training, or about as close as one can get in CR, Iowa. Jenny's been in her studio for 4 years and that's an amazing accomplishment. Karla rarely takes students in their first year of high school, so Jenny is definately uber-talented!
Glad to hear the Fabulous 5 went superbly. I still miss show choir...I'm a dork!
Whoever said that Jenny Harrison from Kennedy had an untrained voice was wrong... she took from Karla Goettel for a few years. Thats how she acheived that opera voice...
No, no, no- I didn't say untrained; I said not professionally trained! By that, I mean that she is not singing for a living in a professional circuit (although she very easily could). It's obvious that you can't just sing like that without any lessons, but she is still absolutely amazing, expecially for a high school student.
oh i see what u meant.... and actually i sing a lot like that (cept not as high.... most of the time) but ive never had a voice lesson in my life. but im gonna start from karla this summer hopefully! if she takes me!

I was sad that I couldn't meet anyone! MrGQ and I were all set to meet up, and then I realized that we hadn't said where, so I was stuck. My only connection to CR show choir is Jenny Harrison from Happiness, and I couldn't find her. I really wanted to meet you guys in person!
I also had the privelidge of meeting Heather as well. What a cool girl. I stood next to her during the group song. It was pretty nifty. But yeah, I also was introduced to Alikat (again!) and techgurl right before performing by movice. I've never been to a fab five before and this was pretty cool. I think I want to sing a solo next year... Hmmm what to sing, what to sing...

The Emcee, whoever that guy was. What a riot; he had me laughing the entire show. I loved the bit about the vibrating cummerbund. There were so many other funny things, too. Who was he?
His name is Tim Boyle. He is the morning host for WMT radio. He is also in numerous theatre productions.
like the pop song a few years ago... AM radio, AM radio... yeah it's 600 WMT. His wife is Amy Johnson-Boyle who used to be a news anchor on KGAN Channel 2, and yeah, he is funny. He used to be a stand-up comedian and I believe he opened once for like Jerry Seinfeld or Paul Reiser or someone like that.
Errr, whoops. I guess that was a girl from Prairie. Sorry!
Okay, two more people that I forgot in my first post:
Heather, aka LilPrice, on her solo. This was the first time all season I've seen Linn-Mar in person, and the first time I'd ever even seen the opener, and I was stunned. You are good!

And a great show it was, too. My only regret is that I couldn't actually see Washington... I got there a few minutes late, and had to wait behind a huge group of people who, like me, were waiting to take their seats. I really wanted to see that funk/tap number at the end!
I absolutely have to congratulate two people. The sophomore soloist from Washington was hilarious; she was one of the two best acts there tonight. I'd never heard of "Alto's Lament" until now, but I was stifling my laughter all through the song. Great job!
Best of all was Kennedy's Jenny Harrison. I got to be friends with Jenny last summer at a camp, so I was excited when I saw she had a solo tonight. (But why did it say it was Evanescense's "My Immortal"??) Holy cow. Never in my life have I heard a voice like that out of someone with no professional training. She was absolutely jawdropping. Her singing was top-notch, and so was her acting. I don't even know what to write; I sound like an idiot trying to describe this. Good job, Jenny.
Sophomore Soloist from Washington? Hmm...I don't think we had one of those. Our "solo" act was 8 guys with mics...well 7.....one of them never showed up.
