Because in Chicago with Totino getting Vocals and Choreo, but still getting 1st Runner-Up obviously the judges are looking for an overall show effect than simply vocals and choreography (which is weird because Totino has an amazing show).
Best Vocals and Choreography were based on the daytime performance, not the finals performance. But thanks for the support!
The battle for Grand Champion is easily argued between Totino Grace and Wheaton. Obviously both of these groups are incredible and bring a lot to the table. As we saw at FAME Chicago, Totino got Best Vocals along with Best Choreography. Will this competition be any different? Will the judging be different than Chicago? Because in Chicago with Totino getting Vocals and Choreo, but still getting 1st Runner-Up obviously the judges are looking for an overall show effect than simply vocals and choreography (which is weird because Totino has an amazing show). Even though Wheaton won FAME Chicago, I think Totino will take this one home because of their 1st Runner-Ups at Nationals and Chicago- they are just gonna bring their absolute best at this competition. I am still absolutely in live with Wheaton, so basically this competition will be epic! Hopefully I will find some way of getting down there!
Grand Champion: Totino Grace
1st Runner-Up: Wheaton
2nd Runner-Up: Center Grove
3rd Runner-Up: Fairfield
4th Runner-Up: Mt. Zion
Does anyone know who the judges will be? Their affiliations with choirs in their area and experience (or lack of it) with different kinds of "show choir" (midwest, theater-based, broadway, etc.) will impact the results more than anything else.
Lol. It sounds as though someone thinks score sheet categories change based upon whether you're performing pop or broadway. No judge at a competition of this caliber is going to be scoring the main components based upon show design or how "fresh" the numbers are...
I'd hate to seen anyone insinuate that high placements for midwestern groups are only due to old fashioned judges.... It simply isn't the case. The repertoire is (for the most part) more difficult in "traditional" shows, and because of the categories on the sheet, these shows tend to score very well.
What will impact the results the most, is vocal technique, cleanliness and appropriateness of the choreography, and difficulty of the material. No score sheet I have ever seen has a box for "Cool", "Edginess", or "Popular Relevance"....
In looking at the listed choirs I noticed that Enterprise has had only one competition this year and it qualified them for the FAME championship. Anyone know anything about their show theme, etc.?
Wonder if Vegas will laying out odds for this competition?
I don't really mind it being so random. It doesn't seem like a big scheduling problem. All these groups are great, so any time slot is gonna be difficult to perform from. I don't think the schedule is gonna mix up results too much, and knowing the judges FAME always hires, the results will be pretty accurate as to how the groups are. To me this is a non-issue
I agree with Jay that the daytime placements don't bother me so much. I'm assuming they're having a finals, so that handful of groups will all perform in relative proximity of one another.

It looks random. It seems to me that the 3rd place choirs from each of the qualifying events should go in the first five time slots, then the 2nd, then the 1st.

That's what I was thinking. It's only fair that's what they do.
As a show choir director, I am so pleased that FAME has created this wonderful opportunity for show choir excitement by basing their SHOW CHOIR FINALS entrance on prior qualifying rounds. Of course there is no true way to find the number one Show Choir in America short of having all of us compete in front of the same judges at the same competition which is unlikely to ever happen. So, this is the next best thing. The fact that so many other quality show choirs are not participating does not take away from their wonderful seasons. However, since they did not choose to compete in the FAME prelims, they will not have the opportunity to be the FAME SHOW CHOIR NATIONAL CHAMPION. But they can certainly enter next year if they want to. I believe the roster of groups entered in this competition represents some of the best talent around. Many of these groups are nationally ranked, and regardless of prior ranking, anyone here can win with the right performance. So, I for one am very excited. Brea will be coming in preparing to win, as I believe every other competing group will as well. So I say, before we try to predict the winner, let's see the performances. And to all of the other competing groups I say, good luck, bring your best stuff, and may the best group win.

How do they pick out the schedule for this? Do they have some sort of random draw? or something?

Its seems like a lot of people are making flash decisions or "predictions" of who is going to win and making flash judgement and complaining that the school who are coming are "disappointing" but have you guys looked up or seen every choir on the list? i doubt it and calling FAME a rematch for Chicago is ignorant...
There is a great possibility that it will be much like a rematch for FAME Chicago. I think we can almost guarantee that Totino Grace, Fairfield, and Wheaton-Warrenville will make finals. Tough groups...what a competition! There has to be a LIVE FEED!
I'd say there's also a chance that they'll make the top three, but I wouldn't count out some other groups to bring some serious competition at the same time.
